Chapter 45: Gacha Rewards [2]
Lucien stared at the system notification, his finger hovering over the interface. Should he use two Eternal Devotion Tickets to upgrade it to an Ultra Rare Gacha Ticket?
"System," he called out, his voice measured but carrying an edge of curiosity, "to upgrade the Ultra Rare Gacha Ticket to a Mythic Grade Gacha Ticket... how many Eternal Devotion Tickets would I need?"
Ding!
[Host will require eight Eternal Devotion Tickets to upgrade the Ultra Rare Gacha Ticket to Mythic Grade Gacha Ticket.]
Lucien nearly choked on his own breath. A whole eight. His vision swam for a moment as the number sank in.
The math wasn’t mathing.
"System," he said, his tone sharpening, "are you certain your calculations are correct?"
His plans had crumbled in seconds. Everything he had carefully mapped out, shattered by a single number.
Ding!
[The system’s calculations are always correct, Host. Perhaps the issue lies not in the system’s math, but in Host’s expectations. Eight tickets is a small price for a Mythic Grade. Unless, of course, Host would prefer to keep the Super Super Rare and wonder what could have been. The system is happy to accommodate either choice. Completely. Entirely. Without judgment.]
The system’s voice rang out, calm and measured, but Lucien’s frown deepened. Why did it sound so sarcastic? As if the system was reprimanding him, lecturing him like a disappointed elder.
He opened his mouth to question it further, but silence answered him. No response. Nothing.
What the hell is this? he thought, his frustration simmering beneath the surface. After a long moment, when it became clear the system had no intention of elaborating, he shook it off. There was nothing to be done.
He refocused on the Gacha Tickets. Now that the system had foiled his original plan, he needed to adapt. Adjust and make changes to the plan.
Lucien clicked Yes, upgrading the Super Rare Gacha Ticket to Super Super Rare Grade.
And then he spun it.
Ding!
[Congratulations, Host. You have pulled an Ultra Rare Grade Gacha Card (Creature): Holy Fire Qilin (UR – Evolvable).]
[Effect: Summons a Holy Fire Qilin cub – a descendant of the First Qilin, carrying 50% of its primordial bloodline. The cub is bound to you and shares your fire affinity.]
[Stats Increase: All attributes gain +20. Fire resistance increases by 30%.]
[Active Ability – Sacred Flame Trample: The qilin charges forward 10 meters, leaving a trail of holy fire that lasts 6 seconds. Enemies in the path take 50% fire damage and are stunned for 1 second. Cooldown: 25 seconds.]
[Passive – Emperor’s Embers: Your fire skills deal 10% bonus damage when the qilin is within 5 meters of you.]
[Note: The cub instinctively respects Seraphina but is loyal only to you. It will not obey commands from anyone else, regardless of their authority or cultivation level. The cub can be fed rare fire-attribute treasures to accelerate its growth and evolution.]
Lucien froze, his breath catching in his throat. A wave of pure excitement crashed over him. It was worth it. Every single Eternal Devotion Ticket he had spent, worth it.
A cub descended from a Primordial Creature. The potential was staggering.
But he didn’t stop there. He immediately upgraded the remaining two Super Rare Gacha Tickets to Super Super Rare Grade and spun them.
Ding!
[Congratulations, Host. You have pulled an Ultra Rare Grade Gacha Card (Physique): Origin Fire Physique (UR – Non‑evolvable).]
[Effect: You awaken an SSS-Rank Origin Fire Element. All fire-based skill damage increases by 90%. All costs of fire-based skills are reduced by 50%. Your stats increase. You gain 40% fire resistance. Your fire attribute potency (burn duration, ignition chance, and heat intensity) is enhanced by 30%.]
Ding!
[Congratulations, Host. You have pulled a Super Super Rare Grade Gacha Card (Weapon): Sunfire Lance (SSR).]
[Effect: A magnificent lance forged from golden sunsteel, its tip gleaming with trapped solar flames that flicker like a living heartbeat. Physical attack +55. Fire damage +40%. Passive – Strikes leave burning wounds that deal 10 fire damage per second for 5 seconds. Active – Once per day, unleash a beam of condensed solar fire that pierces through all targets in a 30-meter line, dealing 120% extra fire damage to the first target and 60% fire damage to all subsequent targets. The lance hums with warmth when held, as if it remembers the sun itself. Weight is moderate; requires some strength to wield effectively.]
Lucien examined the rewards. They were good, more than good, they were exceptional, but all of them were fire-type Gacha Cards. Every single one. This was the first time this had happened, and it was beginning to grate on his nerves.
After a moment of contemplation, he pressed on. There was nothing he could do about it now.
He had used all of the Super Rare Gacha Tickets. Nine Eternal Devotion Tickets remained.
His gaze drifted to the two Rare Gacha Tickets he still possessed, and a decision crystallized in his mind.
He used 4 Eternal Devotion Tickets to upgrade each of the Rare Gacha Tickets to Super Super Rare Grade.
And he spun one.
Ding!
[Congratulations, Host. You have pulled a Super Super Rare Grade Gacha Card (Skill): Phoenix Ascension (SSR).]
[Effect: Active skill. Surround yourself with emerald-gold flames that lift you 5 meters into the air for 8 seconds, granting flight and a 30% movement speed bonus. While airborne, your fire skills deal 25% bonus damage and have 20% increased range. You are immune to grounding effects and terrain-based hazards. The flames protect you, reducing incoming damage by 15%. Can only be used in interval of one and a half hours. Cannot be used indoors or in spaces with a ceiling height below 8 meters. The flames leave a faint trail of embers that linger for 3 seconds.]
Lucien paused. This was getting strange. Unsettling, even.
"System," he called out, his voice tight with barely contained frustration, "can you tell me why I have been pulling nothing but fire-related Gacha cards?"
Ding!
[Due to the obsession link of Host to Seraphina, she influences your Gacha rewards through her bloodline, physique, elemental affinity, and the like. Host should not forget that it is through her obsession that you are pulling Gacha cards.]
Lucien’s brow creased, frustration etched into every line of his face. He felt like the system was playing with him, dangling hope only to remind him of its true nature.
He had forgotten. This was the Obsessive Gacha System, not just any ordinary Gacha System. Everything came back to her. Everything.
Now, staring at the remaining Gacha Tickets, doubt crept into his mind. Should he spin again? Just once more?
He caught himself and nearly laughed. Here he was, hesitating over a Gacha spin as if he hadn’t eaten in days and was pondering how to consume a meal most efficiently. The thought was absurd.
He shook his head. He had given up on overthinking. Whatever rewards came, they came. It was a gamble, that was the nature of the Gacha.
And besides, there would be more Gacha Tickets to use in the future. This wasn’t the end. Just the beginning.
Ding!
[Congratulations, Host. You have pulled a Mythic Grade Gacha Card...]
