Chapter 205 - 203: A Fiery Stare-Down
Worried that Sang Mo would come to kill him, Hades had been staying at home almost all the time recently.
Sang Mo hadn’t shown up for many days, so Hades figured he probably wouldn’t come today either. Thus, for the first time in a while, he stepped out of his room, planning to head back in after a short while.
The men Hades had hired were just standing guard every day, easily pocketing tens of thousands of Star Coins, so they felt it was a cushy job. When they saw Hades emerge from his room, they figured Sang Mo wasn’t coming. But, since they were being paid, even if they thought he probably wouldn’t show, they still perked up and stayed alert.
But what none of them expected was that just over ten minutes after Hades came out, several extremely small drones suddenly appeared out of thin air in the sky.
One of the men Hades hired spotted the small black dots that suddenly appeared in the sky and immediately screamed in terror, "Enemy attack—!! Quick—enemy attack!! Get ready!!"
"Quick! Level one alert!! Unidentified flying objects!!"
In an instant, almost everyone sprang into action.
Hades’s expression changed instantly when he heard the shouts. As he looked up at the sky, he saw the flying objects drop something, and then he was swiftly pulled out of the danger zone.
Diller had spotted the unidentified objects in the sky before anyone else. Since he was always by Hades’s side, he immediately pulled Hades out of the danger zone the moment he realized the objects could be harmful.
Hades had just been pulled away when several bombs were swiftly dropped on the area where he had just been standing.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
KABOOM—
The place he was living in was bombed in a matter of seconds.
Countless ashes were blasted into the air with the explosions. Of the crowd of guards who had been standing there a moment ago, at least a third were gone.
Even though the place Hades lived had decent defenses, and while it wasn’t blown to smithereens, it was severely damaged. His heart sank as he watched the home he had just been in become so dilapidated it looked ready to collapse.
His much-vaunted defenses were as good as non-existent against these things.
Hades watched with his own eyes as his perfectly fine home was bombed to this state. Sang Mo hadn’t even shown his face, yet he had already caused him such heavy losses.
The key thing was, this was clearly just Sang Mo’s way of giving a warning. Otherwise, with these gadgets that could evade detection, a few more attacks and this place would be completely destroyed.
’How are those people even guarding this place?!’
’They actually let Sang Mo bring this kind of thing into the Black Domain!!’
’And the most crucial part is that those things actually evaded his radar detection. They weren’t discovered until they revealed themselves!’
’He had the most advanced detectors on the market installed! Nothing was supposed to get past them. And yet, those things, whatever they were, had managed to evade detection—the bombs had already gone off before his radar even initiated a defensive attack!’
But he didn’t have time to dwell on it. His eyes scanned the surroundings. He wasn’t sure if Sang Mo was nearby and had to be 200% alert. His home was destroyed; if Sang Mo launched a surprise attack now, he’d have a hard time getting away.
Hades looked around warily before asking, "Is Sang Mo nearby?"
Diller glanced around and shook his head. "No."
Hearing this, Hades frowned. It felt strange. This really wasn’t Sang Mo’s style.
’If it were Sang Mo, he would have attacked alongside them and wouldn’t have stopped until I was completely powerless to resist.’
’But sending a few little gadgets over... it’s like he’s just toying with me. It’s so strange.’
Meanwhile, back at the hotel, Bai Zhi and her Beast Husbands were checking the power of the little things she had just redeemed from the system.
From the video feed, it was clear that although the drones were tiny, their power was immense.
The arrival of that Black-robed Beastman the other night had prompted Bai Zhi to exchange for these small drones from the system. Others could pull off something like that, so she, as Sang Mo’s wife, certainly couldn’t fall behind.
So, while it looked like they had been playing around these past few days, she had actually been observing that Hades character and Sang Mo. During this time, Bai Zhi had also heard things from various people about Sang Mo’s past in the Black Domain. Combining that with what Sang Mo had previously said about "taking care of a few annoying people," she came to understand him a little better.
In all the days since they’d returned, aside from dealing with Brutus on the first day, he had followed Bai Zhi wherever she wanted to go. Though he always looked reluctant, he never missed a single outing.
It was just like before; apart from being threatened into it at the very beginning, he had joined them every time afterward.
He had clearly been betrayed, even targeted for assassination multiple times, yet he had never told them. He kept his quills up, not getting close to anyone. And though his words were venomous, he had never once done anything to hurt them.
Even when he used to say he was going to kill her, he still went with Hu Yan and the others to save her when she was in trouble. He kept a cold expression on his face, but Bai Zhi had noticed his subtle actions several times.
’Sang Mo... he’s actually just a soft-hearted person with a cold face and a sharp tongue.’
So, when Bai Zhi saw these powerful little drones in the system’s shop—drones that could even turn invisible—she didn’t hesitate to spend the money to redeem a few.
And the effect was unexpectedly good.
On the screen, you could see that Hades was clearly rattled. The forty-something-year-old Beastman was so scared he had lost all color in his face.
Yan Yichen stared at the screen in astonishment. "Just how scared of death is this guy? He’s got three layers of people inside and three layers outside, hiring so many guards. I didn’t expect these little drones, as small as they are, to be so powerful."
They hadn’t personally delivered the assassins back before, so they hadn’t seen how many people Hades had hired to protect his home. Now, seeing more than half of them blown away in an instant and the house gone, that... what’s-his-name, Hades, was probably terrified all over again.
Sang Mo watched the video for a moment, then glanced at Bai Zhi, a complex look in his eyes.
When he saw Bai Zhi take out a few small drones this morning and say she was going to get revenge for him, he never imagined they would actually blow up Hades’s house.
’Honestly,’ he thought, ’even though Hades wasn’t blown up and got rescued, watching this is surprisingly satisfying.’
’Even though this whole thing was unnecessary from my perspective, it still made my heart feel all tingly and warm. It was very comforting.’
Hu Yan could see that although Sang Mo said nothing, his expression had visibly softened. He knew Sang Mo was actually very happy and couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. Having been on the receiving end of Bai Zhi’s favor before, Hu Yan understood Sang Mo’s current mood perfectly.
Sang Mo noticed Hu Yan’s gaze. In response to Hu Yan’s knowing look, Sang Mo shot a provocative glance back. Their eyes met, and sparks flew in the air.
Yue Junxiao, completely oblivious to their exchange, was staring in amazement at the small drone, which looked barely bigger than his palm. He exclaimed, "This little drone can even turn invisible and not be picked up by detectors!"
Yue Junxiao’s quiet exclamation broke the two’s staring contest.
Hu Yan was the first to look away, turning his gaze back to the video.
