    Behind the scenes, the Institute recruits and trains Awakeners—rare individuals who spontaneously develop supernatural abilities, deploying them as humanity's frontline defense against threats most people will never know exist.
    Amara Murray learns she's an Awakener when she runs toward a cry for help. But not just any Awakener. She's one of five special Awakeners, said to stand above the rest. Five destined to appear once every 500–1000 years.
    However, she completely has zero interest in any of that crap. She simply wants to graduate, pass the bar, and make partner at one of the biggest firms in the world.
    If only it were that simple.
    What follows isn't the quiet, controlled future she mapped out. It's monsters, escalating crisis, and five young adults forced into a found family dynamic.
    Amara must grow from reluctant participant into the leader her team needs, all while managing powers she doesn't fully understand and stupid feelings she can't afford to have.
    That leaves the question: Can she turn around her truly unfortunate awakening?
