Chapter 128: Elias Of The Round Table.
"Chad, over here." Seris called out when she saw Chad walking aimlessly as the pressure from the Eidolons continued to intensify.
He ran over to her. She was together with Claire and Micah. Chad’s spear was bloody, and his body was covered in wounds.
"Guys, what’s going on? Ain’t we supposed to hold them back?" Chad asked, seeing even the soldiers evacuating. It was clearly not what he had been told.
Claire shook her head. "There’s been a change of plans. Everyone is leaving, except for Andrea and Elias."
"What?" Chad exclaimed.
Micah stepped in. "I know it sounds wrong, but this is for the best. If we all stay, we will only become liabilities to them. The best we can do is get out of their way. Unfortunately, we’re not strong enough. Perhaps if Naomi and Vincent were here, things might have been different."
Chad refused to calm himself. "That may be true, but I am not weak. I’m a high-level Awakened just like the members of the Round Table. I can certainly help them. I just need to—"
"Wait."
Seris stepped in front of him, stopping him before he could finish.
"Perhaps any other day you would’ve been able to fight alongside them, but not today. You’re severely wounded. Let’s get out of here. I will heal your wounds. Please."
Chad stared straight at her for a long while before reluctantly agreeing.
He wanted to help them fight. He knew he could be useful, especially against the Eidolons, but there was another reason he couldn’t bring himself to leave.
He couldn’t leave Seris on her own.
If everyone else was evacuating, then she had no reason to remain behind either. Chad finally lowered his spear and followed her.
... ...
Daisy and Camila noticed the sudden movement. They weren’t sure what was going on, but it looked like everyone was running for dear life, not that Daisy was complaining.
Camila waved her hand, and the armour of a nearby soldier pulled him through the air until he was standing before them. Daisy folded her legs atop the wooden crate she was seated on, watching the soldiers rush past them.
"What’s going on? Why’s everyone running? The wall hasn’t fallen yet."
The soldier almost cursed at them, but after recognizing Camila, who was no easy opponent among the Awakened humans, he wisely decided to shut his mouth.
"Andrea was mortally wounded in the earlier battle. There’s word going around that she’s going to fight the Chief and his army to the death. We were told to evacuate before the battle begins."
Daisy raised a brow as Camila released the soldier.
"I guess she decided to fight the Chief in the end. Do you think she’s going to win?"
Camila turned towards Daisy.
"Not sure, but I know she’s definitely not going to die. Andrea is too strong. Malik did a number on the Chief. He no longer has the power to kill a monster like Andrea."
Daisy stretched lazily, completely unconcerned by the situation. "Well then, should we leave as well? Being here when the Eidolons breach the wall would be pretty bad for my emotional and mental state".
Camila nodded, but she didn’t move.
For a long while, she simply stood there, staring beyond the wooden wall. Her expression had gone blank, but her eyes remained fixed on the wooden wall as if she was waiting to see someone emerge from beyond the thick gate.
Daisy eventually noticed. She rolled her eyes. "If you care about him that much, why do you two always argue?"
Camila was flabbergasted. "What? We don’t always argue. I mean, he argues with me. There’s a difference."
Daisy gave her a skeptical look, but Camila ignored it. She steeled her heart and finally turned away from the gate.
"Come on, let’s go. I’m sure he’s perfectly fine and thriving right now."
Daisy did not think the same.
Once his Dormant Ability ran out, he was practically no different from an ordinary human. There was no way he was still alive, especially after they had spotted the Chief walking towards the camp triumphantly.
Daisy wasn’t the optimistic type.
Booom!
The wooden wall suddenly shook violently, the entire structure groaning under the impact. Daisy grimaced and immediately grabbed Camila’s wrist.
"Move."
She didn’t wait for a response. Daisy sped up, dragging Camila along as they quickly disappeared with the remaining soldiers.
...
Hundreds of heads crashed against the wooden wall, blood staining the ancient wood as the Eidolons continued throwing themselves against it without the slightest concern for their own lives.
The wall had been built in a hurry by the ancient humans of the Ruins of Humanity, but it had survived for far longer than anyone who constructed it could have imagined.
It had been reinforced with vile sorcery and divine enchantments, allowing the crude wooden structure to withstand forces that should have reduced it to splinters.
Even now, if anyone had bothered to pay attention, they would have noticed the faint runes lighting up each time an Eidolon collided with the wood.
A deep, almost mechanical sound rang through the wall with every impact, as if something ancient buried within it was struggling to hold the structure together.
But the Eidolons kept coming.
"He’s here." Elias said coldly as his eyes spotted the Chief.
Most of his wounds had already healed, and he was no longer limping. Whatever pain had slowed him down earlier was gone, replaced by an aggression that seemed to grow with every passing second.
"I’ll draw him in—Noooo!" Andrea barely managed to get the words out before Elias’s body shot beyond the wall.
His iron-like body continued to expand as he descended, the metal covering his entire form growing until his size matched the Chief.
His legs slammed into the ground with enough force to crack the ancient ice beneath him. Dozens of Eidolons caught beneath his feet were crushed instantly, while the impact sent chunks of frozen earth rising into the air. The shards came crashing down across the surrounding horde, killing even more of the lower-level Eidolons.
Elias straightened himself amid the destruction.
His metallic body towered over the battlefield, blood and pieces of shattered ice sliding from his armour like flesh as he stared directly at the approaching Chief.
"CHIEEEEEEF!". His voice thundered across the battlefield.
"I am your opponent!".
