Chapter 250: Stat Multiplier
Alex stared at the System screen for several seconds before making his decision. Before accepting the evolution, he first emptied the mana stored inside his Mana Heart, carefully pulling it out until almost nothing remained. There was a chance that he could lose control or even fall unconscious during the evolution, and if that happened while his Mana Heart was full, the uncontrolled mana could cause it to rupture.
After making sure his Mana Heart was nearly empty, Alex finally looked at the notification again.
[Would you like to evolve your species into Homo Vitalis?]
[Yes/No.]
’Yes.’
The moment he accepted, a faint warmth spread throughout his body. The sensation was soothing, and Alex could feel something changing deep inside him as energy slowly moved through his body and began altering it.
The process wasn’t painful, at least not yet. The energy continued spreading through his body while his consciousness gradually became heavier, and although Alex tried to remain awake so he could observe the changes, the more he focused on the strange phenomenon, the harder it became to keep his eyes open.
Eventually, his consciousness faded.
Alex felt as though he had a very long dream. He couldn’t remember what happened inside it, but there were moments when he felt like he was moving through a strange place that he had never seen before, while at other times everything became completely silent.
Then, he woke up.
Alex’s eyes slowly opened, and he remained still for several seconds while trying to understand what had happened. He moved his neck slightly, and a series of cracking sounds immediately came from his body, loud enough to make everyone in the group turn toward him.
Alex blinked before slowly standing up. His body almost shot toward the ceiling, forcing him to immediately control his movement and causing him to stagger for a moment before regaining his balance.
His body felt different.
It was difficult to explain, but the difference was obvious. His body felt stronger, his vision was clearer, and there seemed to be energy constantly flowing through his limbs.
Alex could feel strength filling every part of his body. He moved his fingers and found that his movements felt lighter than before, while even his breathing seemed easier.
For a moment, everything felt perfect.
Then the warmth disappeared, and Alex’s expression immediately changed. His teeth clenched as a sharp pain suddenly erupted from his chest, while his heart began swelling rapidly as if something was trying to tear it apart from the inside.
Pain spread through his entire body, and the sensation was so intense that Alex felt as if he was having a heart attack. Several notifications appeared in front of him.
[Your Species has evolved. Homo Sapiens (Level 10) → Homo Vitalis (Level 11)]
[Mind (+3), Mana (+1), Life Mana Attunement (+3), Fire Mana Attunement (+1), Free Stat Points (+2)]
[Hidden Quest completed: Be the first one in Hell Difficulty from your planet to evolve to Mid rank Species.]
[Gold Reward Box gained.]
Alex’s knees gave out, and he fell to the ground while clutching his chest. Someone shouted his name, but he couldn’t respond because the pain was becoming unbearable.
Alex immediately activated Blood Vitalization Spell and tried to reduce the amount of mana inside his Mana Heart. He expected the process to be difficult, but what he felt was completely different from anything he had experienced before because there was simply too much mana.
’I only gained one point in Mana from the evolution. Why does it feel like my mana pool has increased by almost fifty percent?’
The thought flashed through his mind as he desperately tried to control the mana. Something else was strange as well, because his body had clearly become stronger even though none of his physical stats had increased.
His strength, speed, and endurance all felt noticeably better, and he could move his body with far greater ease than before. Alex couldn’t understand how that was possible, and the thought that something might have gone wrong during the evolution briefly crossed his mind.
His Mana Heart continued filling.
Alex immediately activated every spell he could and poured more and more mana into his brain and soul. He needed every bit of focus and mana control he could get, so he didn’t hesitate to use his mana recklessly.
His mana control had improved tremendously. The three points added to his Mind were, strangely enough, creating a huge difference, almost as if he had gained a lot more than three points in Mind, and Alex could control his mana far more precisely than before, but even that wasn’t enough to solve the problem.
The mana inside his Mana Heart continued increasing.
Alex could hear his teammates shouting around him and asking what was happening, but he couldn’t afford to answer them. All of his attention was focused on his Mana Heart as he desperately tried to prevent it from being overwhelmed.
Then Alex suddenly realized the problem.
’The System is refilling my mana.’
His expression became serious. The System was probably restoring his mana after the evolution, but this time, the amount of mana being added was quickly becoming too much for him to control. Alex continued using every spell he could while forcing more Will into his mana, and although his body trembled from the strain, he refused to stop.
Then, another notification appeared.
[You have evolved to Mid rank species.]
[Stat Multiplier has been increased. Stat Multiplier (x1) → Stat Multiplier (x1.5)]
Alex’s eyes widened. For a brief moment, he forgot about the pain because he finally understood why his entire body felt stronger.
The reason wasn’t that his physical stats had secretly increased. It was because the value of every stat had changed.
Before, if he had Strength (5), that stat might have allowed him to produce five units of physical force. Now, the same Strength (5) could produce 7.5 units of force, which was the real power of becoming a Mid rank Species.
