Chapter 92 | 200,000 $ For A Spar
Dexter frowned. "What do you want now?"
"Until I get my hands on the necklace, you are not leaving my sight." The girl suddenly smiled as she cracked her neck and stretched, making her large breasts pop out even more.
’What the hell is this girl talking about? Am I about to have my own personal stalker?’
"Do what you wish." With indifference in his tone, he replied.
The girl raised an eyebrow and smirked.
"Don’t think I won’t follow you to meet your wives."
Dexter’s face changed slightly. But he wasn’t worried because he had the Tier 4 protection.
"What would it take to leave me alone?" He sighed.
The girl’s eyes lit up. "Give me the —"
She wasn’t able to talk for long when Dexter cut her off. "Impossible, ask for another thing.
The girl glared at him for a second then spoke.
"Do something for me."
"What?" Dexter asked.
"Spar with me."
Dexter blinked. Then he chuckled. "That is funny. You want me to spar with you."
The girl glared at him. "Spar with me, and I will leave you alone."
Dexter’s chuckle faded, replaced by a flat look. "You are an ultra rank. Possibly higher. How exactly is that supposed to be a fair fight? I’m not egoistic enough to think I can battle across realms."
The girl shook her head, and a small smile returned to her face. "Relax. I will suppress my power down to your level. I will spar with you at the same strength. What do you say?"
Dexter considered it. Part of him was genuinely curious. He had never fought an ultra rank before. He had never even been in the same room as one until today, and now he had encountered two or possibly three in a single afternoon.
The opportunity to experience what it was like to face someone at that level, even with their power suppressed to match his own, was tempting. He wanted to witness the power of an Ultra.
But then he shook his head and pushed the urge down. There was no logical reason to accept. He had nothing to gain from the spar itself, and the risk, however small with her power suppressed, was still present.
He had better things to do than indulge the strange whims of a five hundred year old man’s granddaughter.
"There is no need," he said. "I see no reason to spar with you. If I agree, you leave me alone. If I do not agree, what? You follow me forever? At some point, you will get bored and leave regardless."
The girl frowned, clearly not expecting his refusal.
She had probably assumed that the offer itself would be enough, that the chance to spar with an ultra rank would be too tempting for any young fighter to pass up.
She did not understand that Dexter did not operate on the same assumptions as other people his age.
"How about I give you twenty thousand dollars?" she asked.
Dexter frowned. "Twenty thousand dollars to spar with you?"
But he shook his head. "No."
The girl’s frown deepened. She thought he was being difficult. Unreasonable. "Everybody has a price," she said.
"Not me."
"Twenty thousand."
Dexter shook his head.
"Thirty thousand."
He shook his head again.
"Forty thousand."
No.
"Fifty thousand."
No.
"Seventy thousand."
Dexter was unmoved.
The girl smiled. "Eighty thousand."
Dexter shook his head slowly. "Do not bother."
"Two hundred thousand."
"6565436786 Starsoul Bank"
The girl was stunned. She had thought Dexter was a man of pride and honor, expecting him to refuse, but he actually caved in.
Her lips curled as she glanced at him with a glint in her eyes.
"The two hundred thousand is for when you win. I never said when I was going to give it to you. You asked me the condition for sparring, and I told you two hundred thousand. You agreed. You never asked if I was going to give it to you beforehand or whether it was conditional on winning."
Dexter was startled. That was true. He looked at the girl; a faint smile was on his lips and a hint of amusement in his eyes. "That is true. It is actually not your fault. I should have asked for clarification."
"When are we doing this?" he asked.
"Anytime you are ready," the girl replied.
Dexter thought for a moment. "I am ready right now."
The girl frowned and looked at him, then at the bags of food and items scattered on the ground behind him. "You are serious. What about all your food? It will go bad."
Dexter shook his head. "If I go home, it will take a while for me to come back out. So we do it now, or we do it tomorrow."
The girl paused, considering. Then she nodded. "Tomorrow is fine by me. So long as you keep your promise."
Dexter nodded. "I do not like to break promises. I try to keep them when they are within my power."
The girl gave him one last look, something unreadable in her violet eyes. Then she turned around.
In a single step, she vanished.
Not walked away. Not moved quickly. Vanished. One moment she was there, and the next moment the space where she had been standing was empty. No sound. No displacement of air. No trace that she had ever been there at all.
Dexter stood in the corridor for a long moment, staring at the space.
"Ultra rank," he muttered to himself. "They have the power of teleportation. Teleportation to anywhere within their line of sight. That is one of the signature abilities of the ultra rank. Unlike superhumans, whose visible capabilities are limited to..."
He trailed off and shook his head. He was talking to himself in an alleyway about power classifications. That was a sign that he needed to go home and rest.
He turned back, picked up the bags of food and items and the box of pastries, and continued walking toward his apartment.
...
The house was quiet when Dexter pushed open the door. He felt something was a bit off compared to when he left, and he frowned.
"Did something happen to the girls?"
He quickly set the bags down just outside the entrance and quickly entered inside.
What he saw stunned him.
