Danzo had merely lost subordinates, but the men who died were the younger generation and direct kin of the clan heads.
When the clan heads first saw Danzo, they panicked for a moment, but then remembered his forceful attitude whenever he demanded manpower from them. Frowning, they turned to the Third Hokage, hoping he would stand up for them.
Hiruzen Sarutobi's words let the clan heads off the hook.
"Clan heads, Advisor Danzo and I have matters to discuss. Please leave us for now. I will seriously consider the issues you raised."
The clan heads took their leave.
Danzo sat on the sofa. He glanced at Yellow Dog first and said, "Has the Sarutobi clan's internal investigation turned up anything on Sarutobi Ganosuke yet?"
The Sarutobi clan couldn't actually be conducting an internal investigation, could they? Yako wondered. I just made that name up on the spot.
They'd be better off investigating Sarutobi Yako; they might actually dig something up that way.
Yellow Dog was the first to answer. "Advisor Danzo, I have thoroughly screened the Sarutobi clan's ninja. There is no record of a Sarutobi Ganosuke."
