Fox had survived, so there was no longer any need to report back to Root.
Even so, Hakutsuru followed the squad captain's instructions. She dispatched a ninja hawk to Root, carrying a report that praised Fox's mastery of Earth Release ninjutsu.
Yak stepped up beside Yako and hefted his kunai, a silent prompt asking whether they should execute Hakutsuru right then and there.
Yako shook his head. "Hakutsuru is a Konoha comrade, after all. Leave her to me. I'll handle this liability once we return to the village." Purple Cat had only recently become pregnant; Yako wasn't ruthless enough to execute her unborn child's maternal aunt.
He missed the days when he had nothing to lose.
If this had been a little over a year ago, he would have killed Hakutsuru already.
He needed to visit the Uzumaki hideout as soon as possible to see if Yuka had broken Danzo's Tongue Eradication Seal.
Yako walked toward the large ship belonging to the nobles of the Land of Rain, gesturing for Yak to follow. With a flicker of movement, they appeared together on the deck.
Seeing the Konoha Anbu operatives, the nobles of the three nations exchanged panicked glances.
