Chapter 167: The Seven Ninja Swords
Seeing Fox's confusion, Yellow Dog said, "The Seven Ninja Swords are seven renowned blades forged by the Second Mizukage, Gengetsu Hozuki. The Hozuki clan holds the summoning scrolls for them.
"The Hidden Mist Village has argued endlessly over whether these swords were an inheritance left to the Hozuki clan by Gengetsu Hozuki, or a legacy left to the village by the Second Mizukage.
"The current higher-ups of the Hidden Mist Village believe that since the village provided the materials for the swords, they rightfully belong to the village.
"Internal strife and oppression in the Hidden Mist Village are far worse than in our Konoha. The competition for the positions of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist is fierce, leading to frequent deaths.
"The Hidden Mist Village refuses to recognize the Hozuki clan ninjas as the rightful heirs to the swords, and has constantly demanded that they hand all seven over."
So you do know our internal strife in Konoha is serious, Yako thought.
But in a ninja world where every village raced to the bottom, the Hidden Mist Village was indeed worse off than Konoha.
Yellow Dog continued, "The Elder who currently governs the Hidden Mist Village has been pushing for the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist to serve the village itself, rather than acting as the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Hozuki clan.
"After the Second Mizukage's death, facing pressure from the village—specifically the demands of the Third Mizukage and the Elder—the Hozuki clan handed over three of the less critical swords to the village: the Executioner's Blade, the Longsword: Nuibari, and the Blunt Blade: Kabutowari.
