Chapter 279: Information About Telly
More than ten days later, Hunter returned to New York.
After parting ways with Perkins, who had eventually managed to squeeze a diamond necklace worth at least a million dollars out of him and then spent another day in New York with him before finally leaving satisfied, Hunter did not rush back to Los Angeles.
He first went to Jane's place and spent some more time getting to know the killer wife better.
He also kept working on her favorability and dependence, hoping to bring her back to Los Angeles sooner rather than later.
But after only three or four days of carefree fun, Diana somehow found out he was back.
That day, she arranged a meeting place and asked to see him again.
In a Western restaurant on Broadway, Hunter arrived in a neatly tailored casual suit and quickly spotted the seat she had reserved.
"Hi, Diana."
Diana was still dressed like an office professional. Paired with her cold, unsmiling face, it only made her more irresistible to men.
Feeling Hunter's heated gaze, Diana frowned.
She was his manager, and she knew exactly how messy his private life was.
Not to mention anything else, she had already found several of his lovers.
This guy not only liked to flirt with respectable married women, but also had murky relationships with two female assassins.
He also seemed to have an unusual enthusiasm for other people's wives.
At least from what Diana had dug up, he had already built long-term "friendships" with two married women.
One of their husbands was even an assassin, and Hunter had personally sniped him dead.
Diana disliked this man very much.
He was handsome, yes, and she could not deny that.
He was strong too, and apparently did not lack money.
But he was too much of a playboy, and his heart was just as black.
A man like that gave her, a strong-willed woman, no sense of safety at all.
So Diana said coldly, "You are late."
She was displeased.
Hunter glanced at the expensive watch on his wrist.
"No, you are early. We still have a few minutes before the time we agreed on."
"Should not a gentleman arrive early when meeting a lady?" Diana said as she lifted her coffee.
Hunter kept smiling.
"But you asked me out. Also, are you some kind of feminist?"
That left Diana speechless, and she shot him a glare before handing him the menu.
"I already picked. Order whatever you want. This one is on me."
"Then I will not be polite."
Hunter did not actually hold back.
He knew very well that Diana clearly had some special background.
From her expression and eyes, he could tell she did not like him, and in fact seemed a little disgusted by him.
And yet she still took the initiative to invite him out.
That could only mean one thing: the private job she had given him in Las Vegas last time.
Clearly, Hunter's performance had satisfied Diana, or rather the organization behind her.
That was why she had come to see him again.
Most likely, she wanted to keep recruiting him so that she could assign him more and more difficult jobs.
He ordered casually, then called over the waiter.
"I do not like Western food. Chinese food suits me much better. So next time you invite me out, pick a real Chinese restaurant. I would be happier that way."
Seeing Diana still wearing that impassive expression, Hunter also let the smile fade from his face.
Diana immediately sensed the change in his attitude, though she said nothing.
Their dinner was served soon enough.
If this had been a romantic dinner, there would naturally have been wine.
But Hunter had no craving for alcohol, and Diana had invited him for another purpose.
So the two of them had little to say.
Hunter quickly finished the undersized Western meal.
Still feeling neither full nor satisfied, he wiped his mouth with a napkin and looked at Diana, who was still chewing slowly.
"Alright. We have seen each other. We have eaten."
"If you have business, just say it. If not, I am leaving."
Diana's knife and fork froze in midair.
She looked at Hunter, who still wore a smile but was now staring at her with an extremely cold expression.
Thinking of some of the rumors her organization had uncovered about him, Diana tensed.
She was smart, and she knew how to handle people.
Otherwise, she would not have become one of the organization's key young talents in her twenties.
"It looks like I let his age and his flirtatious behavior affect me. I almost underestimated him."
"This guy has shown far too much skill, ability, and wealth over the past few months for a normal person."
"Otherwise, the organization would not have sent me to recruit him."
Realizing that she may have been subconsciously influenced by his playboy image and had therefore shown her dislike too openly, Diana quickly warned herself.
Her face was still expressionless, but the earlier obvious disgust was gone.
"Fine," she said. "I invited you today not only to represent the organization in praising you for your excellent performance in the last mission, but also to ask whether you want to take a new job."
Hunter smiled and shook his head.
"You gave me a task, I got paid. We do not owe each other anything."
"As for a new commission, I will pass."
"Recently, I have been away from Los Angeles too long. I am a little tired."
"I plan to go back and rest for a while before thinking about anything else."
With that, he stood and nodded to Diana.
"Then, Ms. Diana, I will head back first."
"See you when I see you."
Diana had not expected Hunter's temper to be this sharp.
Once he sensed her coldness and dislike, he immediately changed his attitude.
Thinking about how highly the organization now rated him, Diana hurriedly called out, "Wait. I have information you will definitely be interested in."
"It is about one of the women around you. Aren't you curious?"
Hunter had only just stood up and was about to leave when he paused.
He could tell this was Diana's way of trying to get him to take the job.
But he also knew the organization behind her was truly capable.
If they had really dug something up, he would not find that strange at all.
So he asked, "Information about who?"
Diana saw that he had not left, but had not sat down either.
Knowing that he was still listening, she did not delay.
"The underage prostitute named Telly. I have important information about her."
