Marvel: The Silver-Haired Hacker and Her Mecha Fleet

Chapter 85: The Siren Shopping Squad on the Streets of New York

The bright pink electric bicycle cruised smoothly down the street. Mira split off a sliver of her consciousness to check on her bionic clone, who was currently sitting in Midtown High's AP History class. A satisfied smile curved her lips.

In the classroom, the balding history teacher stood on the podium, enthusiastically lecturing about World War II while spitting everywhere. The clone sat upright, pen in hand, eyes fixed on the blackboard, diligently filling her notebook with notes. She looked like the perfect model student.

Beside her, Peter was hunched over, secretly watching a leaked video of Tony Stark's Senate hearing under his textbook. He kept clenching his fists in excitement, completely missing the teacher's annoyed glare.

In the front row, Gwen took careful notes and occasionally glanced back at "Mira" with clear approval.

"Tsk. The clone does all the boring work while the original gets to slack off. This is the true meaning of life," Mira thought happily.

She turned the handlebars and rode off the main road into a lively commercial street. "Since I've already snuck out, it'd be a waste not to do some shopping. Even a Siren deserves a break."

"Mira Vale," Compiler asked from the middle seat, tilting her head. "Are we not returning to the Mirror Sea? The secondary optimization plan for the Bermuda Host Tower is not yet complete. Purifier also requires Siren energy to replenish her combat core."

"What's the rush?" Mira waved her hand dismissively. "The tower isn't going anywhere. It's not every day we can slip out of Queens without S.H.I.E.L.D. noticing. I should at least show you two the real world. You can't spend all your time doing experiments or fighting Antioch ships. That's no way to live."

Purifier, sitting on the back seat, lit up instantly. She hugged Compiler's waist and nodded vigorously, her long silver hair whipping across Compiler's face.

"Right! Right, right! Boss is right! I've never done normal civilian shopping before! Observer Zero only ever lets me stay in the combat testing grounds or collect data. She never lets me have fun!"

Purifier leaned out curiously, golden eyes wide as she took in the bustling Manhattan street. The smell of hot dogs, colorful desserts in café windows, street musicians playing guitar, and bright clothes in shop displays — everything felt new and exciting.

This was completely different from the cold, violent Experimental Field she knew.

"Boss Mira…" Purifier clung to Mira's shoulder and whispered, "What's the real difference between this world and our Experimental Field? There's war here too, and powerful people. It doesn't seem that different."

Mira slowed the bike and answered gently, "The difference is huge. The Experimental Field is just a controlled simulation. All the wars and tragedies there are designed to test our limits and prepare for the Antioch. Every ending already has a contingency plan."

She looked at the people on the sidewalk — laughing friends, an old man walking his dog, girls chatting over bubble tea — and continued, "But this universe is real. Everyone here has their own life and free will. They aren't lines of code. The dangers here aren't something we can fully control or predict."

Mira smiled faintly. "Though honestly, some of the monsters in this world are even worse than the Antioch. At least in the Experimental Field, we Sirens make the rules. Here? Who knows what kind of universe-destroying lunatic might be hiding somewhere."

Purifier shrank back nervously and hid behind Compiler. "Is it really that scary? Then… are we still going shopping?!"

Mira laughed and ruffled her silver hair. "What are you afraid of? I'm surprised though. I thought you were just a battle-crazed idiot who only knows how to fight."

Purifier's face turned bright red. "I'm not like Singularity G! I understand these things too!"

"She does understand," Compiler added flatly at the perfect moment. Binary data flickered through her golden eyes. "According to records, Purifier's unauthorized slacking rate during missions is 67%. Of that time, 82% is spent secretly infiltrating simulated Azur Lane ports to observe Shipgirls and human Commanders. She has accumulated over 12,000 hours viewing human civilian data."

Purifier: "..."

Her face burned crimson. She quickly covered Compiler's mouth. "Civil Engineering White-Hair! Why did you tell her everything?! You promised!"

"I said I would not proactively report you to Observer Zero," Compiler replied expressionlessly, pushing the hand away. "I kept my word."

Mira burst out laughing from the front seat, nearly losing control of the bike. "So our elite Purifier is actually a veteran slacker? No wonder you got so excited about shopping. You've been doing virtual window shopping for twelve thousand hours!"

"I was studying human behavioral patterns! For combat research!" Purifier muttered, embarrassed. She eventually gave up and buried her face in Compiler's windbreaker.

Mira shook her head with a fond smile and kept riding. They left the noisy Manhattan streets behind and entered the quieter, historic neighborhoods of Brooklyn.

Old brownstone houses covered in ivy lined the streets, shaded by tall sycamore trees. Warm sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting gentle patterns on the ground. The atmosphere felt completely different from the bustling city center.

The shops here were small and unique — family bakeries, dusty second-hand bookstores, handmade leather workshops, and vintage antique stores.

As Mira turned a corner, her gaze landed on a small, unassuming shop. The faded wooden sign read "Old Time Treasure." The display window was dusty, but inside were vintage cameras, old vinyl records, military canteens, and various curious items from decades past.

She slammed on the brakes.

"Hmm? Boss, why did we stop?" Purifier asked curiously.

"I found a good place." Mira's eyes sparkled. She parked the bike, stored it in her spatial inventory, and pointed at the shop. "Come on. Let's take a look inside."

In her past life, she had loved browsing flea markets and antique shops, but she rarely had money to buy anything. Now things were different. Between Tony's "intern" salary and the bounties she had collected, she could easily afford whatever caught her eye.

Purifier pressed her face against the dusty window. "Is there anything fun in here? These things look so old and broken. They don't even look as good as our discarded spare parts."

"You don't understand nostalgia," Mira said, patting her head. She pushed open the wooden door.

A brass bell chimed. The scent of old paper, aged wood, dust, and faint turpentine welcomed them.

The shop was much larger inside than it appeared. Tall wooden shelves reached the ceiling, packed with typewriters, gramophones, retro jewelry, old books, movie posters, and WWII memorabilia. Warm yellow light bathed everything in a gentle glow, making the store feel like a pocket of the past.

Behind the counter sat an elderly Jewish man with white hair and thick glasses. He was carefully polishing a silver pocket watch. When the bell rang, he looked up and smiled warmly.

"Feel free to look around, ladies. Let me know if you see anything you like," he said in a thick Brooklyn accent, then returned to his work without any pressure.

Mira immediately liked the calm atmosphere. She nodded politely and began browsing with the two Sirens in tow.

Purifier darted around like an excited kitten, touching everything and bombarding them with questions. Compiler stayed close to Mira, silently scanning every item and feeding the data directly into her consciousness.

Mira flipped through an old picture book, occasionally glancing at the shelves with relaxed interest. Warm sunlight streamed through the dusty window, bathing the three dangerous Sirens in a peaceful, cozy light.
