Chapter 118 - 51: Peach Blossom Promise, Sleeping Like an Octopus (2)
Shen Yanzhi had seen Jiang Li drunk before. He shook his head and said, "I don’t believe you."
Jiang Li pouted. "Then what will it take for you to believe I’m not drunk?"
Shen Yanzhi pointed to his lips, his dark eyes gazing at Jiang Li with tender affection as he waited for her response.
Jiang Li tilted her head, thinking for a moment before she instantly understood. With a silly grin, she leaned in and planted another loud SMACK on Shen Yanzhi’s lips, her hands even starting to roam all over him.
Shen Yanzhi had only meant to take advantage of Jiang Li’s tipsiness to get her to initiate some affection. He hadn’t planned on anything R-rated happening right in the middle of the bar.
As much as he enjoyed being close to Jiang Li, he wasn’t thick-skinned enough to do it with so many people watching.
He couldn’t help but gently push her away. But Jiang Li, now looking completely unsatiated, stared at him with a wronged expression. "Why’d you push me?"
Seeing her crestfallen look, Shen Yanzhi didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "Be good. There are too many people here. We can kiss all you want when we get back."
Upon hearing that, Jiang Li immediately grabbed Shen Yanzhi’s hand, stood up, and tried to head for the exit. "Then let’s go back right now!"
’So impulsive.’
Just then, he saw a waiter approaching with a tray. He helped Jiang Li back onto the sofa and asked gently, "Didn’t you just order a few more drinks? How about we finish them before we go back?"
Jiang Li considered it for a moment. "Okay, that works."
After she spoke, she smacked her lips, as if still savoring the taste of the cocktail.
Once the waiter had set the drinks on the table, Jiang Li picked up a cocktail without a second thought and downed it in one gulp, as if it were just water.
Shen Yanzhi’s pupils contracted in alarm. "Baby, you can’t just drink them like that!"
They weren’t strong, but they would definitely go to your head, and Jiang Li was already quite drunk.
’If she keeps drinking like this, she’ll get alcohol poisoning.’
Jiang Li suddenly leaned close, her eyes narrowed as she demanded, "What is it? With all these drinks, don’t tell me you were planning to drink them all by yourself?"
Knowing it was impossible to reason with a drunk person, Shen Yanzhi took Jiang Li’s hand and said gently, "I just meant we should drink them slowly."
Jiang Li shook her head. "No, we have to finish them quickly."
Shen Yanzhi was surprised. "Why do we have to finish them quickly?"
Jiang Li glanced around before cupping her hands around Shen Yanzhi’s ear and whispering, "So we can go back and have our kisses."
Shen Yanzhi hadn’t expected that reason, and he was once again at a loss. "Why do you want to kiss?"
Jiang Li licked her lips, as if savoring a memory. "Soft... bouncy... great for kissing."
Shen Yanzhi was immensely grateful he was sitting down. If he hadn’t been, Jiang Li’s shameless words might have made him lose his balance.
An idea sparked in his eyes, and he asked with some apprehension, "So, who’s a better kisser? Shen Yanzhi or Zhao Sinian?"
Jiang Li tilted her head, her gaze hazy as she looked at Shen Yanzhi. Finally, she snorted. "Shen Yanzhi? Who’s that? Never heard of him."
’That scumbag, Shen Yanzhi. He just up and leaves whenever he wants, cutting off all contact.’
’We’re married, but all he ever thinks about is sex. He doesn’t care about me at all.’
Shen Yanzhi took a deep breath. Following Jiang Li’s example, he started downing the cocktails, one after another.
He drained all three remaining glasses, wiped his mouth with a napkin, and grabbed Jiang Li’s wrist. "Let’s go home."
Jiang Li shook her head, her expression full of sorrow. "I don’t have a home."
Shen Yanzhi stopped in his tracks. "What do you mean you don’t have a home?"
Jiang Li pouted. "That place... it’s not warm at all. A home is supposed to be warm."
Her words were a knife, plunging straight into Shen Yanzhi’s heart.
’So in her heart, that place wasn’t their home.’
’They say a drunk mind speaks a sober heart. He never knew this was how she truly felt.’
Though his heart ached, Shen Yanzhi was still considerate enough to take Jiang Li back to their hotel.
He wiped her down with a towel and helped her change into a nightgown before finally tending to himself.
Gazing at Jiang Li’s peaceful sleeping face, Shen Yanzhi wondered, and not for the first time, if agreeing to marry her had been the right decision.
’If Zhao Sinian hadn’t made that last-minute move with the dowry, the man lying beside her right now would probably be him. It would have had nothing to do with me.’
’So what if she has someone else in her heart?’
’I’ve already spent so many years loving her in secret. What’s a few more?’
’Besides, I’m her legal husband now. I have her in body; winning her heart is just a matter of time.’
With that thought, Shen Yanzhi’s confidence surged.
He placed a solemn kiss on Jiang Li’s forehead, then prepared a cup of honey water and poured it into a thermos.
