Chapter 39: A Flawed Advice That Works Wonderfully...
A long time ago when Fredrinn was still new to mana and magic, the Wizard Supreme had told him a lesson he still remembered.
The world is not black or white... it’s filled with the endless shades of grey.
It could be lighter in some cases and darker for some, but no one was ever a complete good or complete evil.
That was a lesson right out of a kid’s textbook that taught a person to not judge anyone based on their deeds.
But Wizard Supreme saw the world differently. He had laughed at that ideology and smirked at Fredrinn.
He told him that he should accept the grey and see the black in a person. No matter how good someone is, Fredrinn should notice the darkness.
Focus on it.
That would help him with keeping a calm mind while making the ’moral’ decisions or appease his guilty conscience.
It was flawed advice and quite questionable, as Fredrinn believed.
But... after seeing the group of men unlocking the iron latch, opening the room to the lurking zombies outside, Fredrinn was reminded of that teaching.
He gave a side glance at the beanpole who was still threatening to shoot Aadav while Max was raging and Jacob was trying to appease Beanpole while also holding Max back from pushing Beanpole too far.
Jenny was also trying to calm Max down.
None of them had noticed that the latch had already been opened and the unchosen were sneaking out of the room.
’I can part with one for now.’ Fredrinn sighed to himself, thinking that Beanpole may inherently not be that bad of a person but he just made the wrong choice today.
However in Fredrinn’s eyes, that wrong choice was unforgivable.
When the attention wasn’t even on him, and the entire room was in a panic as normal humans felt worried about the situation, and the awakeners were occupied...
*BANG*
A loud gunshot echoed throughout the room, instantly silencing the panic as even the unchosen paused their activities to look back.
The sound wasn’t as sophisticated and controlled as Max’s Uzi.
No sir.
It was the sound of a real, heavy and dangerous revolver that could make any mortal’s heart chill.
Instinctively, everyone’s eyes turned towards the source of the sound.
There, they saw a man, dressed in a shirt, casually holding a revolver in his right hand as smoke drifted out of the nozzle.
No fan fare, no drama... just a gunshot that instantly silenced the room.
However, that wasn’t even the real kicker.
Accompanying the gunshot, there was a masculine scream and then a gentle *Thud* sound.
The scream was Aadav’s while the thud came from the Beanpole’s now already deceased corpse, falling unceremoniously onto the floor.
Jenny gasped as she had felt the bullet shoot right past her and directly pierced through the poor slim and lanky man with a burst of blood.
The aim was so perfect that the man was shot right between his eyebrows and didn’t even manage to let out a peep as he died on the spot.
"Fredrinn?!" Andrea’s distant scream called out, her voice cracking as she gazed at the ’calm and gentle man’.
Max and Jacob were also stunned. They were just fighting over how to save Aadav and punish the traitorous bastard, but suddenly, the issue was already dealt with?!
Fredrinn wasn’t fazed by the death in the slightest as he calmly gazed at his fellow awakeners.
"Jenny, come to me. Aadav, Max, Jacob, you three head towards the light and turn them on. No matter what. Also give me that gun, I know how to use it better." He said in a tone that left no room for arguments or denials.
Even Jenny didn’t realize as she instinctively obeyed Fredrinn’s words and moved towards him.
Max was feeling more surprised and shocked by the second. When Jenny had told him that Fredrinn was supposedly level 15 and stronger than him, Max had scoffed inwardly and doubted that claim.
Just carrying a sword and faking a calm and collected persona didn’t make a person strong.
But after seeing how effortlessly he shot a real person dead, and gave out his orders... Max didn’t feel so sure anymore.
"Lights are already on thoug–" Jacob tried to speak, stammering slightly as he gazed at Fredrinn, but as if he had just jinxed the situation himself... a familiar and annoying sound echoed.
The sound of the lever being flicked, and every light in the room fading out in an instant...
"They are off now. Move as a group and use the flashlights on your phones." Fredrinn replied and this time Jacob didn’t dare utter any refusal.
Aadav was still slightly scarred as he had seen the bullet fly right past his eye and puncture through Beanpole’s skull with a resounding crack, but as an awakener, he had slightly better control over his emotions than the normal people.
He shakily pulled out his phone and leaned towards Beanpole’s corpse, snatching the gun from his hand before tossing it towards Fredrinn.
Chubby had already lost a lot of blood and was on the ground, choking on his own cough and blood as he twitched occasionally.
He won’t live for long.
Even though it was darkness, Jenny had already pulled out her phone and turned on the flashlight as Fredrinn caught Aadav’s gun. He calmly slid his own revolver behind his back while fiddling with the futuristic pistol in his hand.
Because his father had some sort of connection with guns that he couldn’t remember, Fredrinn had seen quite a few types of them in his childhood, but he couldn’t remember any with such intricate craftsmanship.
Though, seeing the size of the pistol, he already knew that it was weaker in power than his own revolver.
"W-Why did you call me here...?" Jenny asked nervously as she saw Fredrinn testing his grip on the new pistol.
The scene of him shooting down Beanpole without any hesitation was still fresh in her memories, after all.
"Sending 3 awakeners just to turn on the lights is already an overkill." Fredrinn chuckled casually, before looking towards the iron door that was shrouded in the darkness...
"And, we are going to have bigger problems to deal with soon enough."
