Chapter 506: Being Watched (4)
"In your eyes, am I just here to cause trouble?"
Qi Chengliang looked at Gu Shuxin, a hurt expression in his eyes.
This was the woman he had always poured his heart out for, the woman he had always loved! But ever since that day, Qi Chengliang found himself growing increasingly dispassionate whenever he looked at her.
What was it about this woman that had ever made her worthy of his devotion? Qi Chengliang realized he was finding it harder and harder to see.
"Then tell me, what are you here for?"
"To pick you up for dinner, of course."
"No, thanks. If you want to eat, go by yourself. I’m not going!"
As she spoke, Gu Shuxin reached for the car door.
"Don’t go. It’s just one meal. I’d think you wouldn’t be so petty! No matter what, you could say we have some history between us, right?"
"I have nothing to do with you!"
"Is that right? So that’s how you really feel! In that case, go ahead and leave. I’ll just go have a little chat with Chu Lingxiu."
"What did you say?"
Gu Shuxin’s hand, which had been reaching for the door handle, froze. She turned back and stared at Qi Chengliang in astonishment.
’A threat. He’s threatening me again!’
She had thought what happened last time was over and done with. She never expected Qi Chengliang to be waiting to spring this on her.
"Just catching up. As it happens, there are a few things I’d like to tell Chu Lingxiu!"
As he spoke, Qi Chengliang’s eyes remained fixed on Gu Shuxin, not missing a single ounce of her reaction.
That’s right, he was threatening her. And it was after that day that Qi Chengliang had discovered that perhaps this was the most effective way to deal with Gu Shuxin.
"You’re not going anywhere! You want to get dinner? Fine, let’s go."
Rather than let Qi Chengliang run his mouth in front of Chu Lingxiu, Gu Shuxin of course chose to go to this dinner. But as she agreed to Qi Chengliang’s demand, her mind was already racing.
’I can’t let Qi Chengliang keep threatening me like this,’ she thought. ’I have to come up with a foolproof plan.’
’As for now,’ she schemed, ’since Qi Chengliang has delivered himself to my doorstep, I have to squeeze some more benefits out of him.’
’That guy Qi Chengliang might not have much else to offer, but at least he has plenty of money.’
Although the Gu family provided for her living expenses—and the lifestyle they afforded her was already perfectly comfortable—Gu Shuxin wasn’t satisfied with that. She wanted to be like a true heiress, able to spend money like water whenever and wherever she pleased, buying any beautiful bag or dress she laid eyes on without a second thought.
The Gu family would never indulge her like that, of course, so Gu Shuxin had to find her own ways.
That was exactly why she had always strung Qi Chengliang along without completely rejecting him: she could get the perks she wanted from him.
The only difference was that before that incident, all those perks were things Qi Chengliang had willingly given her. Now, she was the one actively demanding them from him.
Passively accepting and actively demanding were, of course, worlds apart.
Qi Chengliang didn’t refuse any of Gu Shuxin’s demands. However, the way he looked at her was gradually losing its former infatuation, replaced by a growing disapproval and contempt.
Gu Shuxin was pleased with the spoils she collected from Qi Chengliang, but she had no idea that from the moment she left with him, she was being watched.
Chu Lingxiu had refused to let her family drive her to campus, so after a long and difficult trip, she finally arrived in the evening.
And just as Chu Lingxiu reached the school gate, she saw the scene of Gu Shuxin getting into Qi Chengliang’s car.
