Ma Yul was raised to be a weapon. He was taught that kindness is a lie people tell before they take something from you, that attachment is the fastest way to die, and that the only reliable truth in the world is strength. It kept him alive. It also cost him everything else.
    At seven years old, a bowl of poisoned porridge and a brother's sacrifice taught him that his own family saw him as disposable. He survived the only way he knew how — by becoming colder, faster, and harder to kill than the people hunting him.
    Now, alone on the road to the Southern Sky Sect's Azure Dragon Competition, Yul is beginning to notice things he has no framework for: a stranger who helps without asking for anything back, a village that shelters a bandit's mark out of fear rather than hatred, a bent note on an old man's erhu that sounds more honest than a perfect one. None of it fits what he was taught. All of it keeps happening anyway.
    Murim is vast, ancient, and indifferent to good intentions — a world of sects who preach righteousness while feeding on the weak, martial artists whose strength reveals exactly who they are, and legends old enough that no one remembers if they were ever true. Somewhere beneath all of it, something far older than Murim itself is stirring — and it has already left its mark on Yul, though he doesn't know it yet.
