Chapter 262: Perpetual Workhorse—Juggernaut Joins Terra

In fact, it was not just Reacher. Next, Natasha and Neagley also planned to have a fierce close-combat match with this big guy, Juggernaut.

A sparring machine like him was far too rare. He did not get tired, did not need to sleep, did not need to drink water, and had strength above a hundred tons.

Just look at Reacher. His face, which usually had almost no expression, was now wearing a look of pure satisfaction.

That alone showed how effective that last exchange had been.

With their Observation Haki, Neagley and Natasha could clearly sense that Reacher's aura was changing.

His body was being tempered through each collision. Although his aura was fluctuating, the vitality inside him was like an erupting volcano being lit, burning fiercely and giving off scorching heat.

Every impact raised that heat further.

"You people really are monsters..." Logan could not help but mutter in complaint.

No wonder the soldiers of the Astartes, Raven, and Grey Knights were all so strong it went beyond understanding.

They could take on Juggernaut head-on, a guy capable of smashing them apart, without even dodging. That courage and that kind of training intensity were simply not human.

Just hearing about it made his scalp tingle, let alone seeing it with his own eyes. The shock from that visual impact would probably stay with him for many years.

Training?

Wild mutants almost never thought about such a thing. After all, they had to hide everywhere, wishing they could bury their own abilities completely.

The Mutant Academy school was a little better. But most of the students' abilities were basically controllable, and only the X-Men had anything like training.

Compared with Reacher's training, though, the X-Men's was like children playing house—it was hard to even watch.

"Don't worry, Logan. Soon enough, you'll become a monster like us too. Besides, compared with those beings out in the universe, we're still far from monstrous enough." Neagley replied with a light chuckle.

But beneath her teasing tone, there was also seriousness.

Neither she nor Natasha would feel the slightest pride because of Logan's shock.

The more they learned about the universe, the more they understood that compared with the true monsters and gods out there, they were still far, far behind.

They were not even creatures of the same dimension.

Neagley, Natasha, Reacher, and all the other soldiers had clearly become so powerful. They already possessed enough combat power to sweep across the entire world.

So why did they still train silently and tirelessly?

Part of it was the clear feedback brought by the growth of their life level. It was like an addictive poison, impossible to stop once tasted.

The other reason was their sense of crisis.

Under Matthew's leadership, they had established the Terra Empire, but that was still far from enough.

The order and ideals Matthew set were about protection, about letting human civilization go further without being threatened by other dimensions or life beyond Earth.

So they needed strength capable of fighting those monsters.

They knew very clearly that they were not enough yet. They had to follow the Emperor's steps, wait for Matthew to begin his conquest of the universe, and build glory and merit.

Every soldier had ambition. Most of that ambition was for the Empire and for Matthew. Only a small part was for themselves.

They wanted to personally witness the arrival of the Empire's glorious age.

They wanted to become one of the most important strokes in that history.

They wanted their names to be carved forever into the long river of history, remembered by countless races.

The ambition in Neagley's eyes burned openly like fire. Logan, Storm, and the others noticed it and exchanged looks.

They could clearly feel the cohesion around Neagley and Natasha.

It was frightening, but it also gave a strong sense of safety.

If I could be part of that, I'd probably be happy, Logan thought quietly.

At that moment, his obsession with recovering his lost memories seemed to fade a little.

For countless years, he had wandered the world in search of those memories, enduring far too many filthy things along the way.

It had left Logan lost for a very long time. He no longer knew who he was, nor did he understand the meaning of his own existence.

When a person lost the goal they struggled toward, they became nothing more than a walking corpse.

And that was exactly what Logan had been.

Perhaps, under the influence of Professor X and Jean, making life better for mutants had become a goal of sorts. Yet Logan knew deep down that it had never been the most important thing in his heart.

Now, however, a new goal seemed to be taking shape—even if he still couldn't see it clearly.

Boom!!

The battle between Reacher and the recovered Juggernaut flared up once again, drawing everyone's attention back to the battlefield.

Since this battle would last a very long time, Matthew did not want to waste time here, so he left.

Juggernaut was a tireless, violent perpetual-motion machine. His joining was a good thing for the Terra Empire, because this guy was even more suited than Blackheart to being a training machine for physical tempering.

Blackheart excelled in true life-and-death combat. Juggernaut, on the other hand, could fully draw out the physical potential of warriors like Reacher with his powerful body and relentless charges.

He was simply perfect, and Juggernaut would never complain.

The power Cyttorak, ruler of the Crimson Cosmos, had bestowed upon the crimson gem had completely rewritten Juggernaut's basic genetic logic.

Only one command remained: release violence.

As long as he could unleash violence, Juggernaut would immerse himself in it. He would never feel physical or mental fatigue.

It was just like an ordinary man opening his phone and seeing a fair-skinned beauty dancing beautifully. His mood would become happy, and before rewarding himself, he would always be a tireless old pervert.

He would wish he could throw his eyes into the phone.

That was because this was also human instinct. The mechanism of reproduction was written into the genes. After seeing those images, the brain would automatically release dopamine, making people feel happy without realizing it.

Juggernaut's reward mechanism was violence.

When Reacher and the others fought him, they never relied on tricks or tried to evade him. They met him head-on in pure, flesh-to-flesh combat.

To Juggernaut, it was nothing less than heaven. In short, this perpetual-motion workhorse had completely fallen into the trap—he probably couldn't be driven away even if they tried.

Matthew also did not need to worry about the grudges between Juggernaut and Professor X.

In fact, all the resentment between the two brothers had already ended the day Professor X ended up in a wheelchair. Seeing him like that, Juggernaut felt that the hatred in his heart had finally been released.

The two of them were now complete strangers.

Rogue Marie took Carrie around the capital of Terra for a stroll. Novi Grad was under construction everywhere, with building sites large and small all over the city. Dust filled the air, and the noise was constant.

But because the population had gathered in several temporary shelter zones, those areas had instead formed dense little communities.

Some people sold homemade snacks and toys, while others set up stalls selling books, discs, and other odds and ends. It was lively.

It was much like the slums in some countries. The houses were simple, but there was always plenty of foot traffic, and interesting things often happened.

Marie took Carrie wandering through the area. As for danger, there was basically none.

The people of Terra treasured the lives they had now. Most of the men had gone out to work, so during the day, those at home were mostly the elderly, women, and children. Where could any danger come from?

As for the gangsters and thugs who had once roamed the city, they had all been arrested as soon as they were identified during the investigation.

After review, those who could still be saved were sent to prison to serve their sentences and reform, while those with serious crimes and blood on their hands were summarily executed.

In the Empire's early days, efficiency was king. There were no complicated procedures. As long as a crime was confirmed, it was dealt with swiftly and decisively.

Meanwhile, Matthew was meeting someone—Nightcrawler, Kurt, the blue-skinned mutant who had assassinated the President of the United States and nearly sparked a war between mutants and humans.

At the glass window of the top-floor hall in the capital's city hall building, Kurt looked nervously at Matthew's back.

He did not know how Matthew would deal with him.

These past few days, he had been uneasy the entire time. If Professor X had not kept comforting him, and if he had not seen the energy filling this city, Kurt might have teleported away already.

"No need to be nervous, Kurt."

Matthew did not turn around. Through the floor-to-ceiling window before him, he looked at the construction sites in the distance, where dust rose and large infrastructure machines were working.

He could sense the young man's nervousness behind him, so he spoke to calm him.

"Yes, Emperor!" Kurt quickly answered.

"Your background check has already passed, so you don't need to worry about us doing anything to you. As for the assassination, that wasn't your intention."

Matthew still did not turn back. He was admiring the development of the city.

It felt like playing Cities: Skylines in his previous life, building a city little by little from nothing. The sense of achievement was very strong.

"Emperor... then what about me?" Kurt asked, feeling much more at ease, though a trace of unease still lingered in his heart.

That unease came from the person who had controlled him back then.

"Your memories were erased by someone. You came into contact with darkness." Matthew said, finally turning around to face Kurt.

The moment Kurt met Matthew's gaze, he immediately bowed his head in deep humility.

Matthew smiled faintly. He did not bother correcting the gesture, instead walking up to Kurt and placing a hand on his shoulder.

Buzz!

A flash of golden light rippled across his palm, covering Kurt's entire body in golden ripples. Kurt's body shuddered involuntarily, his expression turning tense.

Fortunately, Matthew released his hand shortly after.

Matthew spoke again. "I originally thought that guy would use you to create some trouble. Now it seems that wasn't the case."

"I checked your body and soul. The darkness won't affect you, so you're safe now."

"You've been through many bad things. If you're willing to stay in Terra, Terra will welcome you, Kurt."

Hearing this, Kurt abruptly raised his head. "I... I can stay?"

"Terra welcomes all good-natured mutants. Terra is inclusive, and it will shelter anyone who is lost or lonely."

Looking at Matthew's gentle smile, Kurt lowered his head again, but his state of mind was completely different from before.

"Thank you for being willing to take me in. Thank you for your mercy."

"Go. Find Professor Charles. He will arrange things for you."

"Yes, Emperor."
