Chapter 247: Give Me Some Face, Magneto
John's attitude was very firm, and it left Professor X silent.
He had thought his intervention would lower the intensity of the situation, but he had not expected the other side to remain so hardline.
He immediately sensed the danger hidden within it.
No matter what had happened inside the government, or what agreement they had reached, one thing was now very clear.
They had been treated as suspects. Together with Nightcrawler Kurt, they would either be taken away for interrogation or go to war. There was no other choice.
Professor X felt the difficulty of the situation. He had only wanted to use his ability to deter those people, but the other side did not accept that at all.
This left him trapped between two choices.
He did not want to become the cause of war between humans and mutants.
Most importantly, he had not found any useful memories inside Nightcrawler's mind. Kurt's memories had been erased.
Even with Professor X's telepathic power, he could not restore or read them.
That made his heart turn cold.
Professor X realized the conspiracy behind this was far larger than ordinary.
"Professor!"
While Professor X was thinking, the X-Men all had different expressions. Scott stepped forward as if wanting to say something, but Professor X sighed.
He had already made his decision.
"Scott, I…"
Before he could finish, an invisible magnetic force suddenly swept across the entire area.
The guns in the soldiers' hands broke free from their grips and floated into the air, turning around to aim at their own owners.
Not only that, the Apache helicopters and F-22 fighter jets flying overhead calmly froze in midair, forcibly shut down and stopped.
Even the cameras carried by the news crews on the ground and in the media helicopters floated up one after another, all pointing toward this place.
Seeing this, Logan's expression changed.
He knew the person he hated most had arrived.
Professor X and the others realized the same thing.
"Erik?" Professor X wore a pained expression. He knew the situation had now completely moved toward a point of no return.
Sure enough, several figures slowly descended from the air.
After the invisible magnetic field lowered them down, they landed in front of Professor X.
That familiar back belonged to none other than Magneto Erik, along with Mystique Raven, Sabretooth, and a burly man over two meters tall wearing a massive metal helmet—Juggernaut.
"Charles, I told you before—your weakness will only make those humans grow more and more reckless. They never intended to give us a choice, yet you still want to wag your tail and beg them."
Magneto did not turn back. His voice was filled with disappointment.
"Erik, what you're doing…"
Professor X still tried to salvage the situation. He even wanted to use his telepathic power to control him.
But he could no longer do it.
Not to mention that Magneto had already developed a mental magnetic field defense, and he was also wearing a helmet that resisted telepathic power.
The people around him were the same.
Professor X could only hope to persuade him, but Magneto had no intention of listening.
He spread his arms, and the cameras aimed at him, making everyone watching through their televisions widen their eyes.
His aged face carried mockery and a cold smile.
Magneto activated his ability, forcibly releasing electromagnetic signals. He connected everything happening here to the military satellites in the sky, seized authority, and altered the signal.
No matter where they were in the world, whether their televisions were on or off, every screen began broadcasting this scene.
This was his ability.
As one of the strongest mutants in the world, Magneto could do this.
"I know you are watching."
"I know what you want to do. You want to use this incident to start a war against us. Do you know how many mutants have died on dissecting tables over these past decades?"
"You spread fear of mutants. In your ignorance, you only know rejection, disgust, and hatred. Yet you never once thought that we were once human too."
"If you cannot wait to start a war, then let there be war."
"You truly should be afraid of us. You should fear us. My fellow mutants, stop hiding. Stop being afraid. We have lived in shadow and shame for far too long. Come out."
"Abandon your weakness. Abandon your fantasies. Only resistance, only war—let us fight side by side for a new tomorrow for mutants, starting today."
Magneto's passionate voice passed through the cameras, roaring at every ordinary person and mutant across the world who was watching this scene.
After speaking, Magneto stared fixedly at John.
"You pressed the button of war. Then destruction begins now. Don't you have those so-called nuclear weapons you are so proud of? Then taste the fear you created yourselves."
John's face had already drained of color at Magneto's words. "You... what have you done?"
"What have I done?" Magneto burst into a mocking laugh. "What did you think I was doing all these years?"
With a casual flick of his wrist, a military satellite in deep space adjusted its camera angle.
As the satellite turned toward a certain scene, the images on televisions around the world changed with it.
What appeared was something quietly floating in the sky.
Something that represented the death and destruction mankind had created with its own hands.
A nuclear missile!
The moment the image was broadcast, everyone who saw it stood up almost instinctively, their faces filled with fear and confusion.
This should have been an ordinary, peaceful day. Yet because of a single assassination, it had become anything but.
Then Magneto's voice rang out from televisions across the world.
"Then you, Director John from the FBI, will choose the place where it explodes. Which city would you prefer it to be?"
By the end, his voice had risen to a roar. "John, didn't you want war!? Then you'll start it with your own hands. Come on... why have you gone silent?"
At the scene, not only John, but everyone present had fear in their eyes.
John no longer had the toughness he had shown earlier. All that remained was fear—utter fear.
At the same time, chaos erupted in the White House, the Pentagon, and government offices around the world.
Especially among the leaders of nations outside the United States. They were practically cursing out loud.
What the hell were those damned fools doing?
They had actually let the situation reach this point. They had actually forced the mutants this far, causing a world-level disaster for no reason.
If that nuclear missile exploded, then without question, Magneto—and the mutants with him—would have no way out.
Neither would humanity.
The atmosphere grew deathly still. Inside the White House, the nation's highest-ranking officials, who had already made up their minds, immediately abandoned their original plan in the face of this threat.
No matter how unwilling they were, they understood what the price would be for pushing mutants into a corner.
They tried to contact John at the scene directly and speak with Magneto.
But it was already too late. Magneto had long since blocked their signals.
As despair spread—
A pleasant young female voice suddenly sounded.
"Hey, Mr. Magneto. Give me some face and calm down first?"
