Chapter 235: Nightcrawler [BONUS CHAPTER]
"I can help you solve your current problem. I can even help you finish what you have always wanted to do."
"But in return, you will need to do a few things for me."
"Do you want to keep hiding here forever, never seeing the light of day? Or do you want to accept this deal and finish your life's work? The choice is yours, Colonel Stryker."
The blood man's words echoed in Stryker's ears.
To the blood man's surprise, Stryker didn't hesitate for a moment. A twisted smile spread across his face.
"I accept the deal."
"As long as I can kill all those bastards, even if you want my soul, I can give it to you."
Madness filled his voice.
Even the blood man froze for a moment, then he split his mouth open and laughed.
"Wow, wonderful. I do love making deals with a man like you."
"From here on, you'll have your freedom back. Those mutants won't be able to find you anymore, and I'll let you carry on with your original plan."
After speaking, the blood man snapped his fingers.
A figure suddenly appeared—a man with blue skin and a long blue tail, looking almost like a demon.
Seeing him, Stryker took a deep breath.
He glanced at the man's pitch-black eyes, then fixed his gaze back on the blood man. "So this is the power of a demon?"
His tone made it hard to tell whether he was afraid or excited.
The person who had suddenly appeared before him was a mutant Stryker had already investigated and planned to find and control.
Nightcrawler—a mutant born in a circus with the ability to teleport instantly.
When Stryker first investigated this mutant, he had been searching for him all along, hoping to use his power to complete his plan.
But he never managed to find him. Later, because of the X-Men, he had been forced to hide here, and his plan had been completely put aside.
Yet this self-proclaimed demon had somehow known his plan in advance and even brought Nightcrawler right in front of him.
As expected of a demon.
"All right, Mr. Stryker. Please complete your plan. He will obey your commands. At the same time, I have granted him a little bit of power as well. When the time comes, he will give those mutants a very big surprise."
As he spoke, the blood man slowly melted, turning back into splattered blood on the floor.
The black-purple power around them faded, and everything returned to normal.
If not for the extra Nightcrawler standing in front of him, Stryker might have thought he had only fallen into an illusion or had a dream.
Stryker looked at Nightcrawler, and heat and excitement surged in his heart.
He couldn't hold it back any longer. His mouth twisted into a grin as he burst into hysterical laughter.
"Hahahahaha!"
His maniacal laughter echoed through the room.
Outside the door, the two guards exchanged glances and couldn't help but shudder.
Has the boss really gone insane?
Shut up. Don't ask questions.
People at the bottom had their own way of surviving. The first rule was never to be curious.
.…
"You did well, Carrie. Always remember—never casually become curious and go searching into unknown things."
In the villa, Matthew looked at the obedient girl in front of him and smiled as he rubbed her fluffy head.
Many things had two sides.
Curiosity and exploration could easily end in death if things went wrong—especially in this world, where the chances were even higher.
But they could also bring good results. Scientific experiments, for example. It was because of human curiosity and the desire to explore that humanity slowly entered the age of technology, and technological progress kept speeding up.
How many scientists had died during that process? The number was also impossible to count.
But Carrie was different.
Her identity was somewhat special. She was not a scientist. She was a half-human, half-demon hybrid, and one who could activate her powers.
She was even someone Lilith, the Mother of Hell, had been amazed by—so much so that Lilith had wanted to turn her into her representative on Earth.
Bad things could easily happen to someone like her.
Just like this time.
Once her curiosity pushed her to dig any deeper, she would be walking straight into danger.
Fortunately, Carrie did not have the kind of personality characters in movies and novels often had. She was careful and cautious, and simply ignored it. That was what made sure nothing went wrong.
Matthew did not need Carrie to grow stronger through some lucky encounter.
As long as she followed the path Matthew had planned for her, even without those so-called opportunities, she could still grow stronger step by step in a safe and steady way. To be honest, even surpassing her demon grandmother would not be surprising.
After all, demons took far too long to grow.
They often needed thousands of years, tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands of years to mature.
To put it plainly, Lilith had basically reached her limit. She could not even be considered a Demon Lord.
Give Carrie a few decades, and who knew what level she could reach? By then, she might have already thrown Lilith far behind her.
"Hehe."
After being praised by Matthew, Carrie laughed happily.
An obedient girl truly gave people peace of mind.
However, Matthew had no intention of letting Carrie be schemed against like this.
He stretched out his hand, and a brilliant stream of golden light appeared in his palm. The flowing light circled there, and with each rotation, it drew out a golden thread. Eventually, those golden threads came together to form a strange mark.
It looked like a mark, but it was actually a word.
Carrie could not understand the word. She only felt that it was beautiful. But in the next moment, her eyes widened, because the word suddenly shot forward and entered the space between her brows.
Carrie instinctively raised her hand and touched her forehead, feeling around, but found nothing.
So she looked at Matthew in confusion.
Carrie knew Matthew would never hurt her. She was just curious about what it was.
"This is a rune I recently developed. It can protect you, and its power comes from your heart."
Matthew looked straight at Carrie. "Courage and firm belief are its fuel. It will protect you in my place, so no one can hurt you."
During this period, aside from training, learning magic, and developing the Rumble-Rumble Fruit, Matthew had also been working on this—protection for the mind.
Of course, it was based on the magical rune array system that Kamar-Taj had already created.
As for words like courage and firm belief, which sounded a little childish and fantasy-like, they were not really lies.
Those things were more like a key. As courage and belief were poured in, they would slowly unlock the power code inside the rune, activating even greater strength.
What Matthew did not tell Carrie was that this rune itself had a warning system and a threshold activation logic.
Once a threat appeared that could endanger Carrie's life, the rune would automatically warn her and trigger its release.
And the source of the rune's power was not Matthew himself, but the Punch Universe, which was filled with kinetic particles.
With this level of mental defense, unless someone used high-dimensional force far beyond Matthew himself to destroy it, the rune's energy would be endless.
At the same time, Matthew would also receive the information and immediately rush to Carrie's side.
The item was very complete and very powerful. It just was not enough for full use yet.
He needed to turn it into something like the psychic runes in Warhammer, something that could be mass-produced. If the strength was not enough, then he would make them in bulk and win through numbers.
Mental pollution? Great Old Ones?
All of them could step aside.
