Chapter 223: Leave. Now. Get Out of This City Immediately.
In a warehouse district in Brooklyn, New York, screams rang endlessly through the night.
"Fuck, a demon! He's a demon! Run!"
"Don't kill me! Please, don't kill me! I can work for you!"
The dense burst of gunfire quickly died away, replaced by terrified pleas for mercy.
Inside the spacious warehouse were more than thirty people in thick cotton coats. Bullet holes were everywhere, guns lay scattered across the floor, and severed limbs were strewn about. Only three men remained, collapsed on the ground in terror, still gripping guns whose bullets had already been emptied.
They had never imagined that they would simply come here for a deal, only to be attacked by the monster before them.
With incomprehensible strength and speed, and the ability to fire lightning barehanded, he had killed most of their men in an instant.
Most importantly, he could turn invisible.
When the survivors finally reacted and fired back, the bullets struck his body as if they had hit some kind of barrier. They could not pierce through at all.
In despair, the last three tried to beg for their lives.
Unfortunately, the demon before them had no intention of letting them live.
Boom!
Electric light exploded outward, swallowing them completely. They lost consciousness at once, their bodies turning into charred corpses that collapsed powerlessly onto the floor before finally crumbling apart.
In the air above the once-empty warehouse, a figure slowly appeared.
It was a young man with black hair. He was handsome, wearing a white sweater over a black T-shirt. Over his shoulders hung a hooded red cloak, and on his feet were boots with a special design.
Around his neck, faint black lines could be seen. They looked almost like veins beneath the skin, except for some reason, they had turned black.
It was rather horrifying.
The young man slowly drifted down and swept his gaze around the warehouse.
His eyes fixed on the black case that had fallen ahead of him. He stretched out a hand, and the case automatically floated over, as if grabbed by an invisible hand.
With a click, the case opened. Inside were neatly stacked old U.S. bills.
Looking at this entire case of dollars, the man smiled.
But just as he was feeling pleased, a low, hoarse voice sounded in his mind.
"Parker Robbins, have you felt my power?"
"Now, it is time to give me your answer."
"If you are willing to continue, I will grant you even greater power."
Hearing that voice, Parker's expression turned somewhat ugly, but he soon returned to normal.
He did not hesitate at all.
"Proceed."
Parker had originally been nothing more than a small-time thug on the streets of New York. His father had once been a subordinate of Kingpin, the emperor of Hell's Kitchen's underworld. Although Parker was young, he had been born with extraordinary ambition.
He longed to become an underworld emperor like Kingpin.
He wanted to become a big shot.
In 2002, Parker, still just a thug, robbed a warehouse—only to run into a terrifying monster, an extremely ugly creature. On the brink of death, Parker paid a painful price and killed that monster.
From its body, he obtained a red cloak and a pair of boots with special power.
The moment he put them on, he immediately discovered that he could control the red cloak and boots, and that he now possessed special abilities ordinary people did not have.
Not only could he turn invisible and fly, his eyes could see through many things, and his hands could fire lightning.
His strength and speed far surpassed ordinary people.
With these powers, however, Parker did not recklessly challenge Kingpin, the greatest underworld emperor of Hell's Kitchen. Instead, he quietly developed and expanded his own forces in Brooklyn.
Especially after the Manhattan incident broke out not long ago, Parker finally realized that the monster he had killed back then might very well have been one of the legendary demons.
And it was not only demons. Those mysterious, powerful soldiers were even less something he could resist.
Because of that, Parker became even more cautious.
What he had not expected was that a few days ago, a voice suddenly appeared in his mind.
The voice said it could make a deal with him.
As long as Parker was willing to serve it and do certain things, it could grant him unimaginable power.
At first, Parker did not believe it.
He even thought there was something wrong with the whole thing, but he had no way to remove that voice.
Parker understood that this was a deal he could not refuse.
So, intending to stall for time, he made the mysterious voice show its bargaining chip first.
The other side agreed very readily.
And then Parker suddenly gained the powerful strength he possessed now. He could feel that the current him was dozens of times stronger than he had been just a few days ago.
If that person in his head could grant him such terrifying power, one could imagine just how powerful they were.
Parker no longer had any way to refuse.
Whether he wanted to or not.
If he refused, his ending might be even worse.
"Good. Now you must leave. Leave this city—quickly."
After Parker agreed, the voice in his mind suddenly became urgent.
The moment the voice fell, Parker suddenly sensed an inexplicable crisis in the unseen.
It came strangely and swiftly.
But it also sent a chill down Parker's spine. Almost without thinking, as if acting on instinct, he stepped forward.
In an instant, a dark-purple crack suddenly split open in the air, and he crossed through it.
His figure vanished, and the crack repaired itself, returning to normal.
The next second, dense golden particles of light abruptly pierced through the warehouse ceiling and descended into the building, floating less than a meter above the ground as they quietly surveyed the scene.
The figure wore a black work jacket over a white T-shirt, jeans, and brown leather boots.
His body was tall and upright, showing smooth, powerful muscle lines.
He had refined features and messy black hair.
His pupils glowed faintly red.
It was none other than Matthew.
"He ran?"
Matthew frowned slightly. His Observation Haki suddenly expanded at full force, working together with the electromagnetic development of the Rumble-Rumble Fruit. In an instant, his perception covered all of New York and even continued spreading beyond its borders.
Streams of information flowed into his mind, and countless dense images flashed before his eyes.
Yet he still found nothing.
"Fast enough, Dormammu."
Matthew had just happened to be at his Long Island manor in New York. After finishing his physical training during the day, he had been studying the development of the Rumble-Rumble Fruit at night.
He had not expected to suddenly sense a trace of energy from an old friend, so he had immediately rushed over.
That old friend was naturally Dormammu.
Matthew's expression was calm.
He turned his head and looked to the side, where the familiar figure of the Sorcerer Supreme, the Ancient One, floated quietly beside him, shoulder to shoulder.
"So, he still hasn't given up?"
Matthew was not surprised by the Ancient One's appearance. Ever since he had killed Kaecilius, Dormammu had retreated to the Dark Dimension after raging helplessly and entangling himself with the Ancient One for a while.
For once, the Ancient One had enjoyed a rare period of rest these past few days.
