Marvel: Sign-In System – Starting with the Glint-Glint Fruit

Chapter 190: Magneto Senses the Emperor’s Ambition

That night, a vast army of monsters had stood over Manhattan, packed so densely that they blotted out the sky. Their numbers were enough to make anyone feel despair.

Even someone as powerful as Magneto had felt a chill in his heart when he saw that scene.

He was certain he could kill many of those monsters, but their density had been far too great.

Even if he could kill them all, it would take a great deal of time.

But at that moment, the sky had shattered. Amid countless white cracks spreading through the heavens, the entire sky was cleansed in an instant.

The countless monsters were all annihilated.

That scene was exactly the same as what appeared around the fist of this girl called Skye.

And from it, he felt an extremely powerful aftershock of vibration.

It was also identical to the residual energy he had sensed in the underground city of San Juan.

Several lines connected completely in his mind.

Magneto suddenly felt his throat go dry.

A strange chill rose in his heart.

For some reason, he seemed to faintly realize that the person behind Skye, that boy, possessed an ambition even more terrifying than his own.

On the surface, he was sunny and young, but inside, he was a bottomless abyss. Just glimpsing the tip of the iceberg was enough to make one shudder the more one thought about it.

"You…" Magneto's doubtful gaze moved back and forth between Skye and Professor X.

"Stop, Erik."

Professor X continued persuading him, then said something that stunned Magneto. "The senator you transformed—we found him. His genes collapsed, and he turned into a puddle of water. He's dead."

"Your machine has major flaws. You'll end up killing everyone."

"Even if you take Marie away, it will be the same. You won't succeed."

Hearing Professor X's words, Magneto fell silent.

After a long while, he finally released his hand.

Marie stumbled a step. Seeing Skye wave at her, she glanced at Magneto, then quickly ran over and hid behind Skye.

Skye turned to look at the girl about her own age with deep brown hair. She playfully blinked her right eye at her, easing the other's nervous tension, before turning back around.

"Thank you for your cooperation, Mr. Erik. We'll be taking Marie with us. Goodbye."

Since Skye had completed the mission, she naturally had no intention of wasting more words with Magneto. However, the way she addressed him had changed.

As long as someone was not an enemy, Skye was very willing to show her manners and upbringing.

After saying that, she took Marie's hand and walked outside.

Marie instinctively wanted to pull back. After all, her ability would endanger others once there was skin contact.

But she failed to dodge and was held by Skye. Only then did she lower her head and realize that Skye was wearing black leather gloves.

Her heart finally relaxed, and Skye led her out of the bar.

Outside the bar, it was still raining mixed with snow.

Skye did not use an umbrella. She simply pulled Marie along and walked forward with the Astartes beside her. The rain seemed to meet some invisible force and was pushed away.

"Ready?"

"Ready for what?"

Marie was a little confused by Skye's sudden question. But the next moment, an arm wrapped around her waist, and a powerful force lifted her entire body as she shot straight into the sky.

The Astartes followed closely behind.

Marie's scream echoed through the air.

But very soon, Marie discovered that she had arrived on the open rear deck of an aircraft she had never seen before.

And the inside of the aircraft was very warm.

Skye let go of her and led Marie deeper into the aircraft. The space inside was not large, with two rows of seats.

After having Marie sit down, Skye walked to the side and took a glass tube filled with green liquid from a storage box.

Then she came back and handed it to Marie.

"This is a prepared nutrient solution. Drink it, and it will help make up for the nutrients and water you've been lacking these past few days."

"Thank you."

Marie politely took it, somewhat surprised by the thing in her hand. Still, she trusted Skye and twisted open the glass tube before drinking it down in one go.

It was sweet.

After she drank it, a warm current spread from her stomach, driving away the cold that had been clinging to her body.

"Next, we'll take you somewhere else to start a new life. Are you willing, Marie?" Skye asked.

"I have nowhere else to go."

"Good. We'll teach you how to control your ability. After that, you can choose for yourself whether you want to go to school or follow us, Marie."

Seeing Marie's confusion, Skye smiled and explained.

The girl's ability was somewhat special. Until she could control it, she couldn't just go out casually—it would be very dangerous.

...

Meanwhile, inside the bar, an argument erupted between Magneto and Professor X.

Magneto had never expected that Professor X would make that kind of deal with Matthew.

This was no different from handing the fate of their kind over to a mysterious and dangerous person they didn't understand at all.

His angry roar echoed throughout the entire bar.

"You can't do this, Charles."

"We've been through those things. We know better than anyone that we absolutely cannot place our fate in someone else's hands. Have you forgotten? We trusted so many people before, and because of that trust, how many of our kind died?"

"Erik, he is different."

Facing his old friend's furious questioning, Professor X did not get angry. Instead, he spoke calmly.

Then he asked in return, "You don't want to hand our fate to others, but what are you doing now?"

"Even without them, if you stubbornly insist on changing the world this way, will it really make things better for us? It won't. You will only drag us into another abyss, and perhaps even make the whole world die with your plan."

Magneto's idea seemed good. Compared with ordinary people, mutants were a minority. They were discriminated against, rejected, and feared.

Since that was the case, Magneto might as well transform all ordinary people in the world into mutants.

That way, there would no longer be a division between ordinary people and mutants on Earth.

But first of all, Magneto's machine for transforming all humanity had a major flaw. Genes were far too mysterious and complex.

So complex that they could not be transformed through such an almost crude method.

As long as even the smallest problem occurred in the genes, it would cause extremely terrible consequences.

Take the senator Professor X had found, the one who advocated the anti-mutant bill.

Magneto had captured him and used that machine to transform him. The senator successfully awakened a mutant ability and even used it to escape from prison.

But not long after, the senator's genes collapsed, and his whole body turned into a puddle of water. He died completely.

This plan was simply a joke.

If Magneto used Rogue's (Marie) ability and completed the plan, how many people would die?

For this reason alone, Professor X had to stop Magneto.

Magneto might not care how many ordinary people died, but Professor X did. At the same time, he also had to consider Matthew.

He believed that if Magneto really did this, Matthew absolutely, absolutely would not let him go.
