Chapter 159. She’s Trying Not To Trick Me Again With Maternity Leave, So It’s Good!
William stood frozen, his throat suddenly bone-dry. The words he wanted to say—something gallant, something poetic, something that matched the gravity of her beauty—simply refused to form.
His eyes traced the delicate patterns of the white lace where it clung to the swell of her hips, then climbed upward to the soft glow of her skin beneath the moonlight. The contrast between the formidable woman who commanded city councils and this ethereal, vulnerable creature before him was overwhelming.
His gaze was heavy, intense, and undisguised. ’Holy fucking shit... this version of Catherine is so bold, and yet... I like it.’
Catherine felt the weight of his stare. It wasn’t just a glance; it was a physical pressure that seemed to sear across her skin.
Her breathing quickened, the delicate lace rising and falling with each shallow inhale. The silence stretched too long, growing from intimate to excruciatingly awkward.
"William?" she whispered, her voice cracking slightly. She shifted her weight from one foot to the other, the movement causing the silk ribbons of the lingerie to catch the dim light. "Please... say something..."
"You’re making me feel like I’m... like I’m being examined under a microscope."
She bit her lip, her fingers twisting together. "Unless you’ve suddenly decided you don’t like what you see?"
William blinked, snapping out of his trance as if he had been doused in cold water. "What!? N-no, that’s not it at all!"
"God, Catherine... I—" He stumbled over his words, realizing how ridiculous he must look. "I’m sorry... I’m just... I’ve never seen anything like you... with this kind of fit, of course..."
Reaching out with a slightly unsteady hand, he moved toward the bedside crystal lamp. With a soft click, the room flooded with a warm, amber glow.
The lamplight was far more revealing than the moonlight; it cast soft shadows that defined every curve of her body, highlighting the creamy texture of her thighs and the elegant arch of her back. The white lace seemed to glow against her skin, making her look like some sacred idol brought to life.
Catherine let out a small, embarrassed whimper and instinctively tried to cover herself with her arms, but when she saw the hunger and genuine awe in William’s eyes, something shifted inside her. The shyness remained, but a spark of boldness, the same boldness that allowed her to stand beside him in battle, flickered to life.
"Well," she said, her voice gaining a fraction of strength despite the deep flush that refused to leave her cheeks. "Since you’re already staring so thoroughly..."
Slowly, almost experimentally, she drew her arms down. She shifted her stance, arching her back slightly to emphasize the narrowness of her waist and the fullness of her breasts.
It was a deliberate pose, a silent offering, her eyes locked onto his with a mixture of defiance and invitation.
"You’ve spent weeks watching me as a student, as an ally, and as a friend," she said, stepping closer until the heat from her body radiated against his chest. "But tonight... tonight we’ve been caught up in the aftermath of adrenaline and exhaustion."
She reached up, her fingertips grazing the buttons of his shirt, her touch light as a feather but leaving trails of fire in its wake. Her expression softened, becoming achingly tender.
"I don’t want to remember tonight as another blur of emotion or a moment born of weariness," she murmured, tilting her head back to meet his gaze. "I want this to be real..."
’I want us to do this properly, William... Well... Not as two people seeking comfort after a fight, but... as two people who choose each other."
A small, hopeful smile touched her lips as she leaned in closer, her breath mingling with his. "I want tonight to be the first time we are officially... us. Together and completely..."
William stared at her, his mind momentarily short-circuiting as he tried to reconcile this breathtaking vision with the practical realities of their lives. A sudden, intrusive thought, one born of the sheer absurdity of their situation, flashed through his mind.
He knew Catherine; she was brilliant, tactical, and occasionally possessed a dry sense of humor that could cut like a dagger.
"Catherine," he started, his voice rough as he tried to regain some semblance of control. "I have to ask... Because the timing is almost suspiciously convenient..."
She arched a perfectly manicured eyebrow, tilting her head. "Suspiciously convenient? Pray tell, what exactly am I conspiring against?"
"The paperwork," William said, pointing a finger at her, though his hands were still shaking slightly. "You’ve been drowning in administrative duties for months."
"You’re the vice headmaster; you’re buried under endless reports, council meetings, and disciplinary hearings..." William raised his eyebrow. "Is this some elaborate, seductive scheme to get yourself put on an extended maternity leave so you can escape the bureaucracy for six months?"
Catherine froze for a heartbeat, then let out a startled bark of laughter that echoed off the bedroom walls. "Oh, William! You truly have the imagination of a paranoid tactician, don’t you?"
"I’m serious!" he insisted, though a smile was fighting to break through his flustered expression. "It’s the perfect cover!"
"A beautiful distraction to ensure you never have to look at another budget proposal again."
Catherine stepped into his space, pressing her palms against his chest. Her expression shifted from amusement to something more playful, more dangerous. "Perhaps I am a tactician, William."
"And perhaps I do find paperwork tedious." Her eyes danced with mischief. "But if you’re so worried about the consequences... what if I told you I wasn’t joking about the outcome?"
"What if I told you I wanted exactly what you’re implying?"
William felt the blood drain from his face. "Catherine, wait--"
"What’s wrong?" she teased, her voice dropping to a purr. "Is the great William suddenly frightened of responsibility?"
"Or is it the practicalities?" Catherine winked. "Are you worried about your meager salary?"
"How will you afford two more mouths to feed alongside whatever other commitments you have?"
"It’s not about being frightened," William stammered, feeling like he was being backed into a corner by a very beautiful interrogator. "It’s about being responsible."
"I can barely manage my own affairs half the time, let alone--"
"Shh," she interrupted, pressing a finger to his lips.
Her gaze softened, the teasing edge giving way to something far more sincere and reassuring. "Listen to me... I know you and I know how you think."
"You’re always calculating, always planning three steps ahead to ensure everyone’s safety. But you don’t need to plan for this."
She took his hands and placed them on her waist, guiding him closer until there was no space left between them. The heat of her body through the thin lace was intoxicating.
"I’ve been careful, William," she whispered against his lips. "I know my body, and I know our cycles."
"Tonight is safe... There is no risk at all, so... no need for worry, no need to calculate the future or fear the consequences." She pulled back just enough to meet his eyes, her expression earnest. "Tonight, there is no paperwork, no responsibility, and no hidden agendas."
"There is only this... You can do whatever you want to me. I am yours, completely and without reservation."
William let out a long, shuddering exhale. The tension that had been coiled tight in his chest, the anxiety of the fight, the confusion of the ’dream,’ and the fear of the unknown simply dissolved.
Her words acted like a balm, granting him the one thing he rarely allowed himself: permission to simply be, to stop thinking, and to feel.
"You have no idea how long I’ve needed to hear that," he murmured, his arms wrapping around her waist with newfound certainty, drawing her body flush against his.
The playful banter died away, replaced by a sudden, charged stillness that felt heavier than the silence before. The shift in William was instantaneous.
The flustered, stammering man disappeared, replaced by the version of himself that commanded attention in the heat of battle: focused, intense, and utterly certain. His eyes darkened, losing their uncertainty and replacing it with a predator’s hunger.
Without warning, he slid his hands down from her waist, his fingers splaying wide as they found the soft, rounded curves of her ass beneath the thin white lace. He gripped her firmly, his palms squeezing the flesh with a possessive strength that startled her.
"Ahn! William—" Catherine let out a sharp, broken moan, her hips involuntarily bucking against his touch.
The sound was raw, surprised, and immediately aroused.
He pulled her flush against him, so close that she could feel the hard evidence of his desire pressing against her stomach. His face hovered mere inches from hers, his breath hot against her lips.
"I want you to understand something, Catherine," he said, his voice dropping to a low, gravelly timbre that sent shivers racing down her spine. "I’m not going to play games tonight..."
"I’m going to make sure you remember exactly who you belong to... And, of course... I’m going to make sure you are completely satisfied."
For a fleeting second, Catherine felt a spike of genuine trepidation. The sheer intensity in his gaze, the raw dominance in his tone—it was overwhelming.
