Chapter 85: Ganging Up on One
Gu Zhao watched as the monsters killed more and more wildebeest. She had Hua Baozi run toward Feng Jiexu.
Feng Jiexu sat atop a wildebeest, his expression also grim.
"What the hell are these things!" Gu Zhao yelled.
Feng Jiexu yelled back, "A bunch of failed experiments!"
A suspicion formed in Gu Zhao’s mind.
’Animal genetic experiments...’
"How do we kill them?" Gu Zhao asked, her young face grim.
Feng Jiexu put on an innocent look. "I have no idea. If I knew, they wouldn’t have been dumped here."
They were dumped here because they couldn’t be destroyed.
Gu Zhao wanted to curse. ’Who has nothing better to do than research something like this?!’
After a moment of thought, Gu Zhao had Hua Baozi run toward the pack of monsters.
Feng Jiexu frowned. "Are you crazy?"
Gu Zhao ignored him.
"You really are a little madman! Take this wildebeest with you! I can still help you out," Feng Jiexu yelled.
Gu Zhao agreed. ’This guy can fight. He might make for good bait.’
At a cry from Little Eagle, the wildebeest carrying Feng Jiexu suppressed its fear and caught up to Hua Baozi.
The pair skirted around the pack of monsters and ran toward the abandoned vehicle.
Feng Jiexu understood instantly. "That little bit of gasoline won’t be enough to kill them."
"We just need to stall them," Gu Zhao said. She called Big Eagle over and quietly told it something. Big Eagle glanced at Gu Zhao with concern a few times, then flew away.
Feng Jiexu’s brow furrowed.
’This little pervert has the makings of a little madman, too.’
’I really want to snatch her away.’
’I’d even trade my little brother for her. It wouldn’t be for nothing.’
[OMG OMG, that scared the crap out of me!]
[Holy shit, is Monkey King going to fight them head-on?! She’s got guts!]
[Failed experiments? Which soulless bastard is behind this?!]
[Where’d Big Eagle go? It’s not just abandoning her, is it? Every man for himself?]
[Protect the Haast Eagle!!! That bird is a precious treasure!]
Gu Zhao was unaware of the chat’s reaction. Her mind and eyes were focused on one person: Feng Jiexu.
She was trying to figure out how to best make use of him. It would be a waste otherwise.
She quickly discovered the monsters seemed to have no intelligence, only simple hunting instincts.
’In that case...’
Her gaze fell on Feng Jiexu.
A sudden chill went through Feng Jiexu. Noticing her stare, he said, "Don’t even think about messing with me! We’re in the same boat right now."
Gu Zhao looked away. She just felt bad for the innocent wildebeest.
’If only she could get him to run off on his own.’
With no monsters blocking their path, the two quickly reached the car. The abandoned vehicle sat there, all by itself.
Bits of flesh and blood still clung to the vehicle’s protruding metal plates.
The fat man’s body was long gone, and it looked like even the blood had been licked clean.
"Their eyesight is poor, but they have an exceptionally good sense of smell, especially for blood," Feng Jiexu explained, noticing her line of sight.
Gu Zhao asked curiously, "What animals are they a combination of?"
Feng Jiexu began to retrieve gasoline from the abandoned car. "Dog, monkey, cow, cat, kangaroo."
[They engineered a bunch of weird creatures just to get themselves killed?]
[When are we finally going to get some real animal protection laws! We need to protect our cats and dogs, too.]
Big Eagle flew swiftly toward the location Gu Zhao had mentioned, and on the way, it spotted Gu Xulin.
Gu Xulin saw Big Eagle, too, and immediately waved at it. Big Eagle hesitated for a few seconds before flying down.
"Where is she?" Gu Xulin asked, his face dark.
Big Eagle pointed in the direction with its head.
"What are you off to do?"
Big Eagle gestured with its wings. Gu Xulin couldn’t understand the gestures, but he understood Gu Zhao. "Are you going to find other animals for help?"
Big Eagle’s eyes sparkled, and it nodded quickly.
This made Gu Xulin even more worried. ’How dangerous must it be for her to need reinforcements?’
"After you’ve called for reinforcements, come back and get me."
Big Eagle hesitated, but Gu Xulin’s next words made it rub its head against him.
"I can get Gu Zhao to take you all home."
’He’s the one who provides for us!’
Big Eagle flew off to gather reinforcements, leaving Gu Xulin to wait anxiously.
Zhong Mingrui looked at Zhong Siqi with a worried frown. "Brother, will Big King be in danger?"
Zhong Siqi was extremely worried himself but still comforted the boy. "Have you forgotten what your Big King is capable of?"
Zhong Mingrui was not reassured.
Song Yi was also full of worry. "Why don’t we send my brother over there?"
Song Zhe: ??
’Do you even hear yourself right now?’
"Let my brother join the monster pack. He can be their jinx and bring them all bad luck."
[What a good brother! On behalf of all of Monkey King’s subjects, I thank you! Hahaha.]
[Our ancestors were all apes, and monkeys and apes are so similar. That makes us all family, subjects of the Monkey King! It is everyone’s duty to protect the Monkey King!]
Big Eagle quickly notified more animals, and a horde of them charged over menacingly.
They picked up Gu Xulin along the way. Others wanted to follow, especially Gu Zhao’s two young followers.
But Gu Xulin refused them all.
He, along with a drone, followed the great animal army by himself.
「Back with Gu Zhao」
After retrieving the gasoline, Feng Jiexu and Gu Zhao quickly rode the wildebeest and leopard to the boundary between the monsters and the wildebeest herd.
The pair poured the gasoline in a line across the ground. Gu Zhao lit it, and a line of fire flared up, temporarily blocking the monsters’ attack.
It also bought the wildebeest time to cross the fissure.
The pair relaxed a little.
Feng Jiexu looked at Gu Zhao with open admiration. "Come with me! A little madman like you is the perfect person to be with me!"
Gu Zhao replied, "You’re too old. We’re not a good match. Don’t get any ideas about me."
Feng Jiexu wasn’t angry in the slightest. "What’s going on in that little head of yours? I meant you should accept me as your big brother."
Gu Zhao looked at him. "Take you as my big brother?"
"That’s right. If you do, I’ll beat up anyone who bullies you."
"And we can be fugitives together?" Gu Zhao gave him a strange look.
"What did I ever do to you? You want me to become a fugitive too!" Gu Zhao said with disgust, having Hua Baozi carry her further away from him.
Feng Jiexu thought it was a pity. ’Oh well, it really isn’t convenient to take a little sister with me right now.’
"I have a little brother. How about you take him instead?" ’A sister-in-law would work, too. She’d still have to call me ’Brother’.’
[??? Gu Xulin is about to arrive! I’d advise you to choose your words carefully, Mr. Poacher!]
[Whoa! Brother Lin, get over here! A human trafficker is trying to snatch your sister! And my future wife!!]
[@above Stop dreaming. Our Monkey King only accepts handsome men!]
"The fire is about to die out." Feng Jiexu stopped joking around and looked at the flames.
Gu Zhao frowned. A lot of the wildebeest still hadn’t crossed.
The wildebeest that hadn’t crossed yet noticed the monsters were coming again. They looked at the fissure, at the wildebeest that had already made it over, and then back at Gu Zhao.
Then they ran toward Gu Zhao. One took the lead, and all the others that hadn’t crossed followed, forming a wall in front of her.
They faced the pack of monsters, lowered their horns, and took an attack stance.
"Xiangxiang, they’re telling you to go first," Hua Baozi translated their calls.
Gu Zhao started to get anxious. The wildebeest had horns, but the monsters they were facing had horns *and* claws!
’How are they supposed to fight that?! You use your horns, and they basically cheat and grab you with their claws!’
The monsters charged through the flames.
Just then, a huge swarm of animals charged in from the distance, and a flock of eagles appeared in the sky.
A horned rhinoceros rammed straight into a monster. When it tried to lash out with its claws, a monkey immediately grabbed its arm, while other animals launched sneak attacks.
They ganged up on the monsters.
A perfectly logical division of labor.
