Chapter 181 176: The Pine Slipper God's World

The Pine Slipper God liked this Otherworld.

The valley had vast expanses of soil, allowing trees to grow freely, insects to find shelter, and birds to flock.

The wind rustled through the leaves, and the sun, piercing the canopies, dappled the ground with shade.

The light, soothing breath of life was everywhere.

The Pine Slipper God stood silently amidst the grove, gazing at the distant high mountains.

Pine Slipper Rats scampered up and down the pine trees. They were still too young, having only recently been converted, and had not yet realized that all this was the Blessing and creation of a God.

But that was all right.

The Pine Slipper God could wait.

For a tree, the course of life was a long and patient vigil.

In the soil, pinecones broke through the earth one by one, sprouting tender shoots that became small trees, then grew bit by bit, reaching for the sky nourished by sun and soil.

The Pine Slipper God would use [Growth] to help them bypass the long Growth Stage, shortening their vulnerable seedling period.

It used [Poisoned] to protect the bark and canopies, preventing large-scale damage from insects and other pests.

It used [Symbiosis] to increase the survival rate of the pinecones, allowing them to persevere even in the harshest of environments.

There were several special types of monsters in the valley.

The Fighting Shovel Armor were aggressive and belligerent. They liked to suck tree sap and were hostile to the pine trees and Pine Slipper Rats. However, under the Deterrence of the God's Miracle, they were forced to hold back and dared not approach the pine forest.

Then there was the Monster Strength Grass, a very peculiar plant. They had a strong sense of territory, could pull up their own roots to run around, and glorified violence... They were the most difficult group to deal with in the valley.

But the God was not too worried. These grass-type monsters were usually lazy, enjoying sleep and sunbathing. As long as no one provoked them, they couldn't be bothered to move an inch.

There were also butterflies.

Whether they were Green Swallowtail Butterflies or Malachite Butterflies, they were harmless. They fluttered between the woods and grasslands, collecting pollen and seeds, and no one had any issue with them.

Most of the time, the entire valley was quiet.

Recently, however, the Pine Slipper God had a faint feeling that something was watching it.

There were many animals in the valley that would occasionally brave a closer look at the Divine Statue, such as monkeys, field mice, and some birds. But the Pine Slipper God didn't think it was them.

Every pine tree was its antenna and its wings.

And yet, the Pine Slipper God could not see the eyes that stared at it.

'I must be overthinking it.'

It continued to silently cultivate the pine trees.

As the forest grew denser, the Pine Slipper Rats also grew in number. When the population of these once simple and diligent little animals reached over a thousand, a qualitative change finally occurred.

The first [Pine Slipper Mouse Prophet] was born.

The Pine Slipper God was very happy.

The Prophet Rat possessed the most crucial [Wisdom]. It would lead the other rats and could also hear the God's inner voice.

Under the Prophet's guidance, the Pine Slipper Rats were transformed.

They began to build interconnected nests in the dense, strong canopies. Vines and branches were woven into undulating paths and fences. A small city in the trees was being established.

The rats began to venture outside the forest.

They brought back all kinds of seeds, collected flowers and weeds, and used them to decorate the canopies, making their arboreal settlement more beautiful and vibrant.

Then, the city in the canopies welcomed a new group of residents: the field mice from the ground.

The field mice lived almost exclusively in burrows beneath the trees. They traded subterranean insects, bones, and some special stones for the rats' pine nuts.

The Pine Slipper God silently looked down upon them.

'Give it time,' it thought. 'Under the cover of the pine trees, the field mice will also slowly convert into Believers. When that happens, the Pine Slipper Family's community will grow even larger.'

One day, the Prophet Rat suddenly came before the Divine Statue to pray.

"O, omnipotent Lord Pine Slipper God, we have encountered a problem. A strange bird has attacked the field mice and has also snatched away many Pine Slipper Rats. We are helpless against it..."

Through the pine trees, the Pine Slipper God saw the strange bird.

[Mad Flame Bird]?

This species had not been seen in this small world before.

The Mad Flame Bird was wreathed in flames, hunting the Pine Slipper Rats that were fleeing across the ground in the distance.

The Fighting Shovel Armor had thick carapaces, and the Monster Strength Grass basically subscribed to a "if you don't move, I don't move" philosophy. This made the Pine Slipper Rats running around on the ground the easiest prey to catch.

The Pine Slipper God immediately cast [Poisoned].

A red, poisonous mist enveloped the area around the Mad Flame Bird. The next second, the strange bird that had been swooping over the ground vanished.

The rats that had narrowly escaped death ran all the way back and, led by the Prophet, prostrated themselves before the Divine Statue.

"Thank you, omnipotent Lord Pine Slipper God."

"Thank you for saving all of our lives!"

"The power of our Lord God! The grove is our true protector!"

...

That unease in the Pine Slipper God's heart rose again.

'My Miracle doesn't cause things to disappear.'

'The Mad Flame Bird species has never appeared before. Did it come from the farther reaches of the outside world?'

'What exactly took the Mad Flame Bird, making it disappear in an instant...?'

The Pine Slipper God looked into the distance.

The outermost edge of the valley was a range of steep, rolling mountains. They blocked everything from the outside world, including the sea at the end of it all. Only birds capable of long-distance flight could cross this natural chasm.

'What is the outside world like?'

'Perhaps I'll only know if I plant the pine trees all the way up the mountains.'

Thus, the Pine Slipper God began to cast its Miracles more diligently, guiding the Prophet and the rats to plant more trees and expand toward the mountainous region.

Before long, the first Hero was born among the rats.

It accomplished something its peers could not: it found a type of vine in the canopies that produced edible berries. This fruit was named [Pine Slipper Fruit], and it was said to have a sweet and sour taste.

The appearance of a Hero sent the Pine Slipper Rats into a period of rapid growth.

The flame of civilization was ignited and passed among the rats.

They cultivated berries, systematically planted pinecones, expanded their territory, wove safe passages through the canopies with vines, and built new nests from mud, branches, and dry leaves—some even had green leaves on top to provide shelter from the rain.

The rats even learned to raise and tame sparrows.

Although these sparrows weren't intelligent, they were very sharp at sounding alarms, guarding against invasions from monkeys and snakes. This allowed the rats to set up a defensive line in advance using the poisonous sap of the [Red Pine Tree].

The first wonder was also born.

...

The Pine Slipper God eagerly awaited the day it could cross the mountains. It was certain that a more vast land and open fields lay beyond. The true face of the entire world would be completely unveiled there.

'At that time, I can turn the whole world into a Tree Kingdom!'

Cherishing this grand ideal, the Pine Slipper God issued a command, ordering the Prophet to lead the rats toward the mountains.

However, upon reaching the foot of the mountains, the rats discovered huge footprints on the ground. They looked like some kind of terrifying hoof prints, as if an invisible behemoth had passed through.

The moment they neared the high mountains, they would feel an irresistible Fear and begin to tremble, forcing them to flee back the way they came.

Even birds and Shovel Armor would fall from the sky and disappear there.

The Pine Slipper God felt a bit melancholic.

The impassable Madness Mountain Range, the Fear and the warning that loomed over all living things... it was like a barrier and a border constructed by rules, insurmountable and forbidden to touch.

'This world is too small.'

'Perhaps only by entering the Divine Hall of the Gods can I escape the Binding and restrictions here and attain true freedom and evolution.'

The Pine Slipper God decided to stop focusing on the distant horizon and instead concentrate on developing the pine trees and nurturing its Believers, striving to one day leave this world.

...

Luh Yao speared a piece of apple from his bowl with a toothpick and watched the valley on the screen.

Overall, the Pine Slipper God's style was down-to-earth, focused on developing its internal civilization.

"Lord True God, this lowly god used [Deterrence] and [Stamping] to scare away those Pine Slipper Rats, so they wouldn't dare venture further out."

The White God said timidly, "That Mad Flame Bird was an accident... It got into a conflict with a Believer named [Yan Jiu], and after being driven off, it landed at the foot of the mountain."

"This lowly god saw that Yan Jiu wanted to cross the mountains and issued a warning. Unexpectedly, the injured bird stumbled across by accident."

"Fortunately, Philos noticed and quickly captured it."

"Please rest assured, this will never happen again!"

The White God swore up and down.

Just then, a notification suddenly popped up on the simulator.

[A Forest Elemental Civilization has been born, awakening the Silvanus Tree. Please go and retrieve the treasure upon the Silvanus Tree.]

'Nice work, my man Pine Slipper God,' Luh Yao thought to himself.

'You just focus on developing and Ascending with your pine trees. As long as you don't cause any trouble, I'll see to it you get out of here safely.'

'Gods don't always have to be enemies. Sometimes, they can have a mutually beneficial relationship.'

Luh Yao switched to the [Golden Field] to happily check out his reward.
