Chapter 141 - 136: Chasing the Sun
Years had passed, but Prophet Doron Nunu still insisted on his lavish and opulent attire.
He leaned on a Golden Scepter, wore a cloak of vibrant, multicolored feathers, and had rings of gemstones, gold, silver, and pearls on all ten fingers. Everywhere he went, he was a glittering focal point for the crowd.
After the return of the White God, he walked with his head held high and his chest puffed out.
As the Prophet, Doron Nunu’s mission was to convey the Divine Will, and his status was affirmed by the White God. Yao God was the master of this world, and the White God was Yao God’s only Subordinate God—one of only two recognized gods!
The past thirty years had not been easy for Doron Nunu.
The God’s lack of response had led many to treat the Prophet with contempt. Although they still worshiped the God, coming to the Divine Hall to pray and kowtow, their carelessness was impossible to hide.
’These short-sighted fools!’
’It never occurred to them that all the gems and rare items everyone obtained in the north were the Blessing and guidance of the White God!’
Now, the God has returned!
Although the White God seemed a little fatigued... that wasn’t important.
Doron Nunu decided he would restore the Divine Hall’s authority.
The glittering Prophet strolled slowly to the entrance of the Divine Hall.
He wanted to say something, but when he saw the scene outside, the words caught in his throat.
Outside the Yan City Divine Hall, a dense crowd of people was kneeling.
Among them were the once-arrogant Slave Traders, the Salt Race who prided themselves on their noble blood, and the Scholars, ship captains, and artisans who held important seats in the Citizen Council...
Their foreheads were pressed to the ground, and before them, Pottery Jars and clay plates held Sacrificial Offerings for the God. Everyone was silent, afraid of disturbing the sanctity of the Divine Hall.
Hmph.
’Fair-weather followers.’
Doron Nunu said nothing.
The worshipers kneeling outside exchanged glances, then finally looked toward one person.
This man mustered his courage, rose, and took two steps forward. With an ingratiating smile, he said, "Master Prophet, we are merely expressing our respect for the God, our devotion to Lord Yao God and the White God. We mean nothing else."
Doron Nunu recognized this merchant.
His name was Shang Ji. He was the head of the Slave Traders and the one who had spearheaded the creation of the Citizen Council.
In present-day Yan City, Shang Ji could be considered a major figure of considerable influence. In the past, many from the council only came to the Divine Hall to put on a show. Although they were polite to Doron Nunu, it was nothing more than an act.
Doron Nunu had once requested that the council build a ring of side halls around the Divine Hall, just like in Yao City. This would ensure the quiet of the Divine Hall and provide the Believers with a more orderly place to worship.
The council had said they would do their utmost to make it happen.
Doron Nunu repeatedly urged them, but the council claimed they had to pass a resolution to obtain the necessary tax funds. They said that due to various reasons, funds were tight, and they simply couldn’t spare that much money.
They gave him a symbolic amount of Sea Shells, but it was just a perfunctory gesture.
Doron Nunu had recorded this incident in detail on paper, a permanent mark of shame to constantly remind himself.
The construction of the side halls was delayed for ten years.
Doron Nunu knew very well that the God had temporarily left this world, which was why these people were losing their sense of reverence.
Slave Traders were just like that, like dogs that could never be tamed.
You have to whip them for them to wag their tails at you. If you speak to them nicely, they won’t pay you any mind at all.
Shang Ji cautiously lowered his voice. "Prophet, construction on the side halls will begin tonight. I wonder... will this disturb Lord God’s peace?"
Doron Nunu’s face was expressionless. "Lord God is always tolerant of devout and loyal Believers."
"Of course, of course. We are all the most faithful Believers of Yao God and the White God."
Shang Ji chimed in.
After asking a few questions, Doron Nunu learned the real story.
They didn’t know that the God had returned.
The reason was in the sky.
While Doron Nunu had been praying inside the Divine Hall, the Dark Sun had descended, plunging all of Yan City into a new round of panic.
Apostle Isabel, who had not been seen for a long time, suddenly appeared. Wielding a Divine Sword, she flew toward the incomparably massive Dark Sun.
The seemingly tiny Apostle charged into the enormous Dark Sun. The black sun, which had looked down upon the world with contempt, was beaten back again and again, finally fleeing toward the horizon in a pathetic panic.
The spectacle in the sky was witnessed by all, and the shock was beyond words.
The terrifying Dark Sun—which in everyone’s eyes was unrivaled, a Divine Spirit in its own right—was like a horse or a deer being hunted by a Hunter when faced with an Apostle of Lord Yao God... It possessed an enormous body and great power, yet it was completely unable to withstand the Divine Power and could only flee for its life.
The shrewd merchants immediately realized that Lord Yao God was about to bring Order to the world!
They had hastily gathered and rushed over, each offering up precious treasures from their personal collections in a desperate attempt to make amends.
Doron Nunu wanted to laugh when he heard this.
He kept a straight face. "The matters of Lord Apostle are beyond your comprehension, and you need not speculate."
"Yes, yes, Prophet, we understand."
Shang Ji bowed, maintaining the posture of a subordinate. "Prophet, is there anything else we can do?"
Doron Nunu glanced at him. "Be devout."
The Prophet turned and walked back into the Divine Hall.
Shang Ji was left behind, breaking out in a cold sweat, uncertain and terrified.
...
「In a dark underground cave.」
An oil lamp cast a dim yellow light, illuminating five figures wrapped in black cloaks.
"Today was the scheduled Dark Night Gathering, and also the founding day of the Dark Sun Church."
One of them said, "The Believers should have gathered by now to offer their Faith and loyalty to the Dark Sun..."
"Now it’s all ruined."
He said sullenly, "An Apostle drove away the Sun. No one will come now."
"Yao God’s power is beyond our understanding. Before Him, the Dark Sun is nothing but a stone in His hand, to be flipped over at will..."
Another person spoke up. "The Apostles’ power is terrifying. Even the Dark Sun has to evade them. The Dark Race is completely unable to fight back. What should we do now?"
"..."
They all fell silent.
Suddenly, someone suggested, "How about... we Disband?"
The others all shot him dissatisfied looks.
The one who made the suggestion retorted, "Well, do you think you can fight an Apostle? This is the power of just one Apostle. Besides Lady Isabel, there’s also Lord Philos, the King of White Bones, and that terrifying Blood Knight who is a one-man army... not to mention Lady Selena, who presides over the Yao City Divine Hall."
"Lady Selena has never taken action, but it’s said that she is now Yao God’s chief Apostle."
"You tell me, how are we supposed to deal with them hunting us down?"
"..."
No one answered.
In the end, they reached a consensus. They took off their black robes, blew out the oil lamp, and worked together to destroy the entire cave. Back in the outside world, they were once again Believers who followed the Great Yao God, law-abiding and upstanding citizens.
The Dark Sun Church was founded and disbanded on the same day, all because Isabel hunted down the Dark Sun.
...
「In Yao City.」
The Scholars looked up at the sky and saw Isabel drive away the sun of darkness. They were all incredibly excited.
"Lady Isabel’s heroic bearing is so elegant."
"The wicked Dark Sun has finally been punished by Lord Yao God. Even the Sun in the sky must operate according to Lord Yao God’s will!"
"The might of a God cannot be provoked."
"This Chapter of Lady Isabel’s holy war must be written into the latest Theology texts. Everyone must know about it."
"Our patience and piety over these thirty years have earned Lord God’s favor. This is the power of Faith, the grace of a God!"
"Lady Isabel is as beautiful and dazzling as the Sun..."
In the Divine Hall, Selena paced back and forth, observing the outside world through a mirror.
’Damn that Isabelle Ceroli, she always knows how to get people to like her!’
’Her past cunning and smiles, her current dazed and clueless look—it’s all just a ploy, a Disguise she puts on.’
’How can people keep falling for this act!’
’Philos has been investigating silently for years, and I myself have been reporting to the God, not wanting his efforts to be buried and ignored... but in the end, Isabel is the one who gets all the attention.’
’Aside from Lord God, no one here understands the danger and difficulty of the Dark Sun better than I do.’
For years, she had been constantly watching the projection of the Dark Star high in the sky, searching the entire world for traces of the Dragon through her mirror...
Selena looked at the [Mirror Country].
"Mirror, mirror, who is this noble lady, possessing both power and beauty, who looks down on her peers yet never vies for credit?"
The Female Tyrant tilted her chin up. "That’s right. It’s me."
