Chapter 136 - 131: An Unimagined Way of Fighting
’The giant in the sky might be holding a treasure.’
The Ghost White Horse could cross mountains and seas, but it couldn’t reach the sky.
The Blood Knight began to search for a way to ascend to the sky.
This world had no ladder to the heavens, nor any special Teleportation channel. Sky and earth were separated by a vast, insurmountable distance.
It was then that the Dwarves found the Blood Knight.
"O powerful and valiant Knight, the Dwarf Fire Furnace Clan offers you our highest respect and gratitude!"
"You freed us from the threat of the sea of fire."
"You have enabled the Dwarves to set foot on more distant lands and regain our vitality."
"To repay your help and salvation, the Fire Furnace Clan will do everything in our power to forge the best armor and swords for you! Please, make any request! The Fire Furnace Clan will spare no effort!"
For several years, the Dwarves had watched Necied’s figure as he charged and battled through the sea of fire.
At first, the Fire Furnace Clan thought he was just some madman who had appeared out of nowhere.
’Running toward the flames and swinging a sword will only get you entangled and devoured.’
Every Dwarf in the fortress knew this.
This was a world of fire and furnaces.
The world had been forged into a giant high furnace, and the Fire Furnace Clan were the master refiners who guarded it.
In the past, many ores, cokes, and other special materials would fall from the sky. They entered from the sea of fire on the other side of the world, where they were transformed into iron, copper, and slag by the Fire Element in the high heat.
These scorching-hot, semi-finished products would fall through a channel in the center of the High Furnace World to the opposite pole—the land where the Dwarves resided, also known as the Forging zone. This continent was composed entirely of coke, clay, and various casting materials fused together.
Next, the Dwarves would sort these scalding, semi-finished products.
Iron, copper, and other special metals were piled neatly to one side, while the waste slag and scraps were poured back into the sea of fire.
Then came the Forging work.
Take iron, for example. The Fire Furnace Clan would reprocess the pig iron, heating it and repeatedly hammering it to forge high-quality wrought iron.
This wrought iron would be stacked into towers, which the Cloud Giant in the sky would then suck away and send to the outside world.
The Dwarves couldn’t remember exactly how many years they had been smithing in this High Furnace World. They only knew that this was how the world was supposed to be: flames, firing, Forging, stacking...
At some point, the ore stopped falling from the sky.
The Dwarves ate slag, so they weren’t worried about food shortages. Millennia of accumulated waste was spread throughout the High Furnace World, causing it to constantly expand and become rounder.
With no more metal to process, the sea of fire grew day by day. The flames expanded outward, continuously eroding and swallowing the Dwarves’ land.
The Dwarves knew that one day, the flames would completely envelop the world.
They waited for the Cloud Giant’s Rainfall, collecting it and storing it in their fortress.
The Dwarves continuously forged and reinforced their fortress, silently preparing for the final battle against the Fire Elemental Creatures that was sure to come. As long as they had the Dwarf Fortress, they had hope.
Even though they knew their chances of victory were slim, the Dwarves would never yield to hardship.
Just as they were anxiously preparing, the sea of fire suddenly vanished.
The once vast and invincible Country of Fire had actually met its own doom before the Dwarves met theirs.
That mad Knight had conquered the flames.
The furious roars and weakening wails of the Emperor Giant Elephant echoed throughout the world.
The once-invincible emperor had perished, taking all the world’s fire with it.
The Dwarves stared at each other in bewilderment.
They conferred among themselves and decided that, whether as a matter of courtesy or to praise his courage, they had to express their utmost reverence and respect to this incredible Knight.
...
Unaware of the situation, the Blood Knight was only thinking about his next opponent.
Necied said, "I want to go to the sky and fight the Cloud Giant."
This request dumbfounded the entire Dwarf clan.
’He wants to fight in the sky, too?’
’Isn’t the ground good enough?’
A land not covered in flames was such a cool and beautiful place. The sky held only clouds and the terrifying Cloud Giant who ruled over it.
The Fire Furnace Clan held another emergency meeting.
Although they didn’t know why the Knight wanted to ascend to the sky, he had stated his need, so the Dwarves had to fulfill the bold promise they had made.
After a tense and heated discussion, the Dwarves actually came up with a way.
They built numerous furnaces outside the Dwarf Fortress and erected tall chimneys.
With the sea of fire gone, the Dwarves could find plenty of materials in the slag on the seabed to make the chimneys sturdy and straight. The chimney construction proceeded in an orderly fashion.
Beneath the area of the sky where the Cloud Giant circled and rested, a dense forest of chimneys now stood, resembling a Cactus covered in spines.
The Dwarves threw in coke and lit the fires.
Hundreds of chimneys began to spew thick smoke. Billowing black clouds rushed toward the Skyline, dyeing all the clouds black as a massive amount of soot flew into the air, obscuring the sun.
The slumbering Cloud Giant inhaled a large amount of soot and awoke, coughing.
It furiously blew a great gust of wind!
However, the chimneys continued to be built, one after another. The gale was powerless against the craftsmanship the Dwarves had honed over countless years.
This was also the Dwarves’ goal: to make the Cloud Giant come down to the ground.
However, they had not anticipated the Cloud Giant’s reaction at all.
After its wind proved fruitless, the Cloud Giant yelled from the sky, "Stop it! It’s too smoky, I’m choking... COUGH COUGH COUGH COUGH..."
"No more smoke, no more soot, it’s too much, too much, I can’t take it! COUGH COUGH COUGH..."
"COUGH COUGH, from now on, just call me if you need rain!"
"Damned, disgusting soot! AHHHHHH!"
"Alright, alright... I get it, you win!"
"I’m just following the rules! Don’t take it too far!"
Both the Blood Knight and the Dwarves were stunned.
After further talks between the two parties, the Blood Knight finally learned the truth.
Despite the Cloud Giant’s enormous size, its actual body was very small. The outside was just an illusion made of clouds, a severely bloated Body Type.
Moreover, due to rule constraints, it could only stay in a fixed zone in the sky, with an even smaller range of movement than the Dwarves on the ground. Its tasks were to suck away the metal and send it through a channel that would appear overhead, and to provide the Dwarves with water so they could forge the metal.
After the channel closed, the Cloud Giant had been bored for many years. Its only form of entertainment was urinating from the sky.
The Dwarves were beyond furious!
For many years, the Fire Furnace Clan had believed the Cloud Giant to be an unfathomable, World-Level monster that resided high in the sky, on par with the King of Fire Sea, the Emperor Giant Elephant. They never imagined it was just a fake that was strong on the outside but weak on the inside.
When the Cloud Giant revealed its true form, it was just a tiny, light-blue cloud cluster.
To apologize and protect itself, the Cloud Giant also offered what it considered to be bombshell news.
"The main world outside has been destroyed... That’s the only reason the Gods would abandon this High Furnace World."
"This place isn’t just for Forging metal; it’s also a place to cultivate the Fire Element."
"They haven’t appeared for many Eras. The only possibility is that the Gods have all fallen."
"You don’t have to do any more Forging!"
The Blood Knight was already well aware of this.
He asked only one thing: "Where is the best treasure here?"
’Yao God’s command must not be forgotten.’
The Cloud Giant said, "The Fire Element, of course—that sea of fire... but it’s gone now."
"Besides the sea of fire, the most valuable thing here is definitely the Dwarf Fortress."
...
In Luh Yao’s left hand was a red Stone Box. This was the [Muspelheim Fire Box], the engine and source of the sea of fire.
In his right hand was a gray, stone architectural model. This was the Dwarf Fortress.
Luh Yao looked at the returning Blood Knight.
A new layer of flame patterns adorned Necied’s Armor, looking simple yet exquisite. Furthermore, the Blood Knight had become more composed and reserved; his previously aggressive aura was completely gone.
This trip to the [Spirit Realm] crossover zone had been incredibly fruitful.
Only a dozen or so minutes had passed outside, but seven years had gone by in the High Furnace World. The flow of time inside was even faster than Baroye had predicted.
