Chapter 114 - 109: The Pilgrimage
Yao City was the Holy Land of this world.
Prophet Hemira herself was in the Holy Land Divine Hall.
’A pilgrimage here... isn’t that just like taking a stroll outside?’
’She can’t be planning to come to the High-Dimensional World to meet me, her God, face-to-face, can she?’
’No way... right?’
No matter how he thought about it, Luh Yao found it bizarre.
He decided to fix his view on Yao City to see just what Hemira was up to.
By this time, Prophet Hemira had already walked out of the Divine Hall. She was wrapped in a black robe, completely emulating Isabel’s attire.
The Scholars of the city all came to see her off.
"Prophet, please be safe on your journey."
"May the God be with you."
"You will surely complete the holy pilgrimage! You will prove the Holy City!"
"Go, go, Prophet. The Sun and the stars will guide your way."
Hemira said nothing.
She left the crowds of Yao City and began walking west on foot.
Luh Yao locked his perspective above her head.
Without a horse or camel, Hemira moved very slowly. She was already sixty years old, a veritable elder in the Pixel World, and she had a Weakness emoji over her head.
A torrential rain began to fall along her path.
Hemira took shelter under a rocky hill, holding a copy of the *Divine Gospel*. "Praise to You, our Celestial Father and savior, Yao God..."
She chanted the scriptures from the book, over and over.
After the rain stopped, Hemira set out on the road again. She crossed the hills and entered the western mountains, where she stopped before a set of grass-covered ruins.
An exclamation mark appeared over Hemira’s head.
"This is the Land of Divine War where Yao God drove out Evil God Jack. The aura of a Divine Miracle still lingers."
The female Prophet knelt and kowtowed toward the ruins.
Specks of white light emerged from the ruins. These points of light flew toward Hemira and merged into her body.
A lightbulb lit up over Prophet Hemira’s head.
"The power of a God... so vast, so mighty, so holy, so benevolent, so selfless..."
An "LV up↑" icon appeared above her head.
Luh Yao double-clicked the little figure.
...
[Prophet Lv9] Hemira
Attack 0, Defense 2, Knowledge 6, Mana 1, Luck 1, Morale 3
[Abilities]
Wisdom Lv5: Wisdom is the key for an Apostle to hear the Divine Will. The higher the level of Wisdom, the easier it is to improve and comprehend various abilities.
Theology Lv2: Adept at spreading Divine Faith and keenly able to discover traces left by a God. Can comprehend and raise one’s Tier by observing Miracles.
...
Hemira had leveled up, and her Theology had also, at some point, reached Level 2.
Luh Yao realized that it was the [Theology] skill taking effect. She could gain comprehension and raise her Tier just by observing Miracles.
’So the sites of past Miracles can trigger it too.’
Luh Yao continued to watch.
Hemira left the mountains and traveled all the way to a port to board a ship, eventually reaching the former island home of the East Sea Clan. Now, it had become an entrance to the Abyss.
She walked to the center of the island. The ground was covered in rubble; the mud-and-thatch huts of the East Sea Clan had long since decayed and collapsed, and the land was overgrown with wild grass.
Hemira knelt and prayed again. "The Miracles of Yao God are as swift as a Storm, blowing away the dust of the old days..."
After a moment, the "LV up↑" icon appeared once more.
Hemira could sense the aura of Luh Yao’s Miracles.
She reached Level 10.
Next, she continued her pilgrimage, following the path of the Miracles Luh Yao had performed, searching constantly.
The Bright God Stele on Mingyue Island, the ruins of Yangwu God in the Eastern Grassland, the area where the Divine Statue of Haili God had appeared, and finally, the sites of the surface and underground battlefields against Tao God on the Eastern Continent...
In the end, her level stopped at LV12.
Luh Yao now understood. The so-called pilgrimage was Hemira’s journey to worship at all the places where he had fought a Divine War, to feel the traces of a God’s existence.
A notification suddenly appeared on the screen.
[Prophet Hemira has completed the first pilgrimage.]
[Hemira has become a Legend.]
Luh Yao’s eyes lit up.
’Promoted to a Legend?’
He clicked open the Prophet’s data panel.
...
[Legendary Prophet Lv12] Hemira
Attack 0, Defense 2, Knowledge 9, Mana 1, Luck 2, Morale 3
Martyr: Willing to sacrifice herself to spread the Divine Gospel.
Legend: One who has had a legendary experience, possessing extremely high prestige and influence.
...
’So that’s how it is.’
By completing the pilgrimage, Hemira had earned the title of [Legend].
Luh Yao felt happy for his little person.
This last Clan Leader of the East Sea Clan had led her people through a change of Faith and brought them back to the land and forests.
After becoming a Prophet, she had worked conscientiously and tirelessly to spread the Divine Faith. Hemira had spearheaded Yao City’s export of religious culture, which had significantly padded Luh Yao’s Faith reserves.
Now, in her twilight years, Hemira had accomplished a feat no little person had ever attempted, completing the first pilgrimage road alone.
Her life spanned the replacement of one God with another, she witnessed the rise of the Garlic Tribe, and she watched a city grow from its founding to its prosperity. She was indeed a well-deserved Legend.
When Hemira returned to Yao City, almost the entire city came out to welcome her.
Vast crowds of citizens packed the streets to a standstill. They surrounded the Prophet who had completed the pilgrimage, offering her cotton and grapes, and enthusiastically expressing their praise and respect.
"A remarkable pilgrimage! You are a trailblazer for the path ahead!"
"Prophet, you are the greatest follower of the God!"
"You are a Legend of our time, and a guide for us all."
"You are the guiding light for everyone."
...
Faced with all the praise, no emotional change showed above Prophet Hemira’s head.
She said with great composure, "No, friends. The God is the guiding light for all. I am merely a shadow standing beneath it."
"Even when we are unaware, the God is leading us."
She returned to the Divine Hall, knelt before the Divine Statue, and continued her duties as a Prophet.
The status bar above Hemira’s head was getting worse and worse. A cold symbol had appeared, and the gray Ghost icon was also incredibly clear, indicating that she could die at any moment.
Luh Yao also felt that, compared to the other Heroes, Hemira had truly toiled far too hard.
’After you die, go to Saniluo and have a good, long rest.’
’You’ve already done more than enough.’
Luh Yao cast the Miracle [Scorching Sun], but he stretched it to its maximum size, turning it into a gentle sunlight that enveloped the Divine Hall and its surroundings.
Hemira seemed to realize something.
A smiling face emoji appeared over her head.
"Thank you, merciful God. You truly are watching over us. Such a warm Sun is already the greatest reward for me."
"Please forgive your clumsy and ancient servant for being unable to continue spreading Your Faith."
"I firmly believe that one day, You will illuminate the entire world, dispel all the gloom of the old days, and turn this world into the best possible Earthly Heaven."
"Praise to You, our Celestial Father and savior."
A white light emanated from Hemira’s body.
Her withered body fell to the ground, displaying [DEATH].
And numerous points of white light flew into the bonfire in the Divine Hall.
Faith +120 appeared in the upper right corner of the interface.
Luh Yao was slightly surprised.
’It seems the [Martyr] ability has activated.’
...
Martyr: Willing to sacrifice herself to spread the Divine Gospel.
...
Death God Scott arrived at the Divine Hall, but he did not summon Hemira’s Wandering Soul.
Luh Yao asked Isabel about the situation.
"My Lord, Prophet Hemira has become a Martyr. She offered her entire being to become fuel for your Fire of Faith."
"She has vanished completely."
Luh Yao’s feelings were somewhat complicated.
