Chapter 94 - 89: We’re All Friends
Carrots may be a very nutritious vegetable, but that wasn’t the point right now.
Inside the cage, everything about the snowman was suspicious.
For starters, it was only Lv. 5, with zero attack and defense, slow movement, and 10 health. Mobs like this were typically just fodder for experience points. A couple of punches from any random weakling could kill the snowman on the spot.
But Jimmy also had the [Undead] Trait, which allowed it to resurrect.
Luh Yao decided to test it.
To be safe, he selected [Miracle], and a bolt of lightning struck the snowman’s head.
The snowman let out a miserable scream, its body collapsing into a pile of snow.
Luh Yao waited.
After ten seconds, the snow on the ground slowly gathered and reformed, and Snowman Jimmy stood up again.
"If this makes you happy, please, feel free to hit me."
Jimmy grabbed the cage with its twig hands and said optimistically, "I’ll always come back. Everyone likes to hit me when they’re in a bad mood. Did something upset you all recently?"
Luh Yao sent another bolt of lightning, blasting it into snowflakes.
Before long, Jimmy stood up again.
"Please, hit me as hard as you can. As long as it makes you happy! We’re all friends, after all."
...
After experimenting seven times in a row, Luh Yao confirmed just how valuable [Undead] was.
This ability was truly overpowered.
If used properly, Snowman Jimmy was an endlessly reusable piece of bait, perfect for luring out a big fish.
Luh Yao pictured the strategy in his mind.
’When encountering enemies, I’ll send out Snowman Jimmy. It’ll be killed instantly, of course. But it’ll keep resurrecting, and its innate [Zero-Degree Domain] is a large area-of-effect slow.’
’Toss the snowman into the enemy ranks, slow everyone nearby, and then bombard the area with [Aegir’s Fire]. Perfect.’
’A textbook suicide attack.’
Luh Yao’s gaze moved down.
The [Ancient God Curse] was a bit tricky.
—Cursed by an Old God and completely sealed.
Snowman Jimmy had been divinely punished, which was why it was now only Lv. 5.
And what’s more...
Luh Yao looked at the snowman.
The Blood Knight cut down the snowman in the cage with a single sword strike, but it quickly and tenaciously piled itself back together.
"You’re so amazing, you feel so strong! So this is what it feels like to be powerful. A little like the Tyrant."
"An incredible, powerful Knight!"
Isabel pierced the snowman with her Holy Sword.
After a moment, the snowman wobbled back to its feet. "This power is so wondrous. It has the scent of spring and life."
The Deep Sea Lord went over, raised a starfish-like tentacle, and crushed it with one squeeze.
Soon, Jimmy shakily reformed and commented, "The smell of the sea. Your attack has the scent of the sea. Such a nostalgic feeling... It’s a shame I can’t remember where I’ve seen the sea before."
It died violently at the hands of the trio over and over, yet it seemed accustomed to both death and resurrection, chatting with them enthusiastically.
"What’s the outside world like now? Ahh—"
"It must be much brighter than here, right? It’s so dark and gray here, with no color at all... Uwah!"
"You all look so different, how did you meet? Eeyah!"
"..."
Luh Yao could see it now.
Snowman Jimmy had been trapped in the Abyss for too long. Something was a little off with its mental state.
It was understandable, though.
It was locked in a cage like a bird, gawked at by onlookers, and forced to experience all kinds of deaths. Even the weakest Ghoul here could kill it with ease.
Under such endless torture, the fact that it hadn’t gone completely insane could be considered a sign of optimism.
’I wonder which God Jimmy offended,’ Luh Yao thought. ’How deep must the grudge be to inflict this kind of life-sentence torture on it?’
But since they were called Old Gods, it meant they had already fallen. He wouldn’t have to worry about provoking a conflict on a divine level.
Of course, there was another possibility.
Perhaps Snowman Jimmy was a heinous criminal, cursed by the Old Gods into its current form. Its memories were stripped away, and it was forced to endure the punishment of undying torment in the Abyss as a snowman.
...
Luh Yao took a sip of Eternal Wine and decided to go for it.
He began to command Isabel.
"Snowman."
Isabel said, "The Lord God has taken pity on you. He is willing to forgive your past sins and free you from this cage. Are you willing to pledge your Faith to the great Yao God and offer him your Faith and loyalty?"
The snowman froze for a moment.
"..."
"I am a sinner, cursed and punished by a God. Has the Lord God truly forgiven me?"
"The merciful Yao God is willing to forgive your past."
"Really? Really?"
The snowman pressed against the cage, hardly able to believe it.
"Hooray! Hooray!"
"Long live the God!"
"I am willing! I am willing! Merciful Yao God, great and magnanimous Yao God!"
The snowman was so excited it danced for joy, wobbling back and forth, its fluffy hat swinging from side to side.
Luh Yao was relieved.
The Apostle Mark had only one requirement: the target had to be willing.
Now, thanks to his two miracle buildings, he held two marks, so using one wasn’t an issue.
Luh Yao clicked the mark with his mouse and dragged it onto the snowman’s head.
A notification popped up on the screen.
—To convert this being into an Apostle of your Divine Hall, Power of Faith is required. Do you wish to spend 10 Faith Value to convert it?
[Yes] [No]
Luh Yao clicked yes.
—The lost Apostle has heard your call. Your Power of Faith has repaired his broken shell and withered soul. He is rapidly undergoing Rebirth from the Sea of Mourning.
—[Apostle] Snowman Jimmy will follow your will, carry out your Oracle, and fight for your Fire of Faith.
The comical-looking snowman knelt on the ground, the picture of devout obedience.
Seeing the prompts on the game interface, Luh Yao nodded in satisfaction.
’All right, my suicide Apostle is ready.’
However...
Luh Yao was a little confused.
’Why is the snowman still in the big birdcage?’
Fortunately, the Blood Knight and his companions took action. After a frantic barrage of attacks, they finally broke an opening in the black birdcage, freeing the snowman completely.
Jimmy knelt on the ground, raising its twig arms. "Praise the Lord God! Thank you for your mercy and kindness! You have saved the humble Snowman Jimmy!"
It quickly settled into its new role and began to tell Isabel about the situation.
"The ruler of the first layer of the Abyss is the Tyrant, in the Mirror Country up ahead."
"Although the Tyrant was stripped of his Divine Format and Divinity and suffered a Demotion to become a Demigod, he is still extremely powerful."
"He controls the Mirror Country. Even trapped in the Abyss, he is still omnipresent and immortal within the Mirror Country..."
The snowman’s description startled Luh Yao.
’Good thing I didn’t rush forward.’
’The final boss of the first layer is a Demigod?’
This level of strength was beyond Luh Yao’s expectations. He decisively ordered a retreat.
The trio quickly escorted the snowman out of the [Black Abyss].
...
Emerging from the gray prison of the Abyss into the bright, normal world, the snowman was ecstatic.
It trotted around on its two short legs, running back and forth on the grass. Jimmy held its twig arms high, excitedly running in circles and scaring away a flock of seagulls.
"Light! Spring!"
"Is this the real world? The air is filled with life, and there are wonderful smells and colors everywhere."
"Hooray! Long live Yao God!"
The snowman was like a small child seeing snow for the first time, stumbling about as happy emoticons appeared above its head.
Watching Snowman Jimmy, Luh Yao suddenly felt a pang of regret.
’This fellow seems a bit dim-witted... He and the Blood Knight are truly two of a kind.’
’Another burden for Isabel.’
Luh Yao double-clicked the top of the snowman’s head.
Jimmy’s stats were exactly the same as before: Lv. 5, 0 Attack/Defense, and 2 Speed.
[Undead] was still there.
The only change was that one of the snowman’s abilities now had a new description.
[Ancient God Curse LV10 (10000/10000)]
Luh Yao realized at once.
’I can use the Power of Faith to lift the snowman’s curse.’
