I Have a God Simulator

Chapter 92 - 87: Descent of the Gods

In the interrogation room, Songx Shiyi turned on the recorder on her phone and looked at the person across the table.

"You can speak now."

Lin Zecheng, who sat across from her, shivered. It was unclear if it was from the cold or because his muscles were stiff.

He wiped his face with his right hand, his eyes haggard.

Lin Zecheng picked up the paper cup on the table and took a sip of water. "Regardless of whether I failed here or not, the Whistleblower’s next plan is already in motion."

"The Whistleblower trusts no one. He’s extremely suspicious and treats all the Gods the same way."

"Since my part of the plan failed, the Whistleblower will shift his focus to the Fragment World... but I’m not sure of the exact time he’ll make his move."

Songx Shiyi frowned. "With the World Dimension restrictions, Gods can’t enter Fragment Worlds."

"That’s right, the World Dimension restrictions. But nothing is ever truly perfect. Even the World Dimension’s rules have their loopholes."

Lin Zecheng sniffled. "Can I have a cigarette?"

"Smoking is forbidden in the interrogation room."

Songx Shiyi offered him a piece of gum.

Resigned, Lin Zecheng popped the piece of gum into his mouth and began to chew vigorously.

"However, I can put in a request for chewing tobacco to help calm your nerves," Songx Shiyi added.

The light returned to Lin Zecheng’s eyes, and he began to speak faster. "The Whistleblower suspects Jia Xiaokai either hid the key on this side or in the previous Fragment World."

"You have to be in the Fragment World left by the Forest God to open the passage into the Golden Field."

"Gods can’t enter a sealed Fragment World, but Apprentice Deities can."

Lin Zecheng explained, "An Apprentice Deity would be able to pass the Fragment World’s screening and use a one-way Teleportation Gate to send a Divine Statue inside."

As if realizing something, Songx Shiyi’s pupils contracted. A shocked expression crossed her face. "Demotion?"

"Yes."

Lin Zecheng nodded. "From what I understand, the Whistleblower will select one or several Gods, demote them to Apprentice Deities, and send them into the Forest God’s Fragment World that way. This will allow them to stay there for an extended period to search for the key."

Songx Shiyi challenged him, "Demotion requires annihilating the civilization a player painstakingly built, destroying all their wonders... That’s tantamount to causing the player physical disability."

"The Whistleblower doesn’t care."

Lin Zecheng said woodenly, "If they refuse, the Whistleblower has no issue with devouring a few Gods."

"..."

Songx Shiyi suddenly remembered.

’The Whistleblower isn’t human.’

’I can’t judge him by human standards.’

"Even Demoted Gods are not something new players can fight against."

Lin Zecheng narrowed his eyes. "They’ll easily establish a foothold, using Faith Artifacts and combat treasures to quickly dominate the area. And that’s not to mention they probably still have their Apostles and a substantial Faith Reserve..."

"It’s very likely they’ve already crossed over."

Songx Shiyi looked at Lin Zecheng. "If that’s the case, why didn’t they do this before?"

"Because of the Skinner."

Lin Zecheng rubbed the back of his neck. "The Whistleblower and the Skinner are both fighting over the key, and both of them have made arrangements in the Fragment World."

"The Whistleblower stationed a High-Level Hero there specifically to guard against the Skinner."

"The Skinner, in turn, built an Altar in that world and has a group of special fanatics lying low, meant to counterbalance the Whistleblower."

"The two Titled Deities were wary of each other, so the situation was basically a stalemate."

"A short while ago, the Skinner’s Believers there were all wiped out, and their Faith vanished entirely from that world. Immediately after, the High-Level Hero the Whistleblower had left behind also went silent, their Faith Flame completely extinguished..."

He blinked incessantly, tormented by his craving. "We don’t know what happened over there, but the Gods all think it’s connected to the Golden Field. The Whistleblower is definitely not going to let this slide."

"The Skinner is currently bogged down in a Divine War and is completely tied up, so this is the Whistleblower’s best chance."

Songx Shiyi recalled what Jia Xiaokai had said.

’The Forest God had lowered the dimension of his Divine Body and hidden it in one of the Fragment Worlds.’

’Could it be in this Fragment World?’

’Even if he really is living there in a demoted state, he’s lost everything from his past. His life would have to start anew; he wouldn’t be the Forest God of old anymore.’

’In a way, it’s a bit like my own situation.’

...

When the interrogation was finished, Songx Shiyi passed through the Wall.

Outside was a white corridor, lined on both sides with black iron doors. Each door had a different name and number printed on it in white paint.

Songx Shiyi stopped in front of one of the iron doors.

The door read: [0235 Yuan Lisha].

With a light touch of her finger, Songx Shiyi pushed the door open and went inside.

At that moment, Yuan Lisha was inside, doing a handstand against the wall.

Upside down, she met Songx Shiyi’s gaze. "Yo? Prosecutor Songx paying a visit. What’s up?"

"I’d like to ask you about a few things."

"..."

After listening, Yuan Lisha performed a nimble front flip, landing on her feet.

She untied the towel from her neck and wiped the sweat from her forehead. "I don’t know much about the situation you described."

"The Skinner doesn’t really manage the Gods. But when it needs them, the Gods have to be there. Otherwise, it will find some excuse to skin them and offer them as a sacrifice..."

"It’s true that the Skinner is currently bogged down in a Divine War and can’t spare the attention for anything else. As for what happened in the Fragment World, the only way to know is to go there yourself."

Songx Shiyi asked her, "I remember you said you lost a Divine War, were Demoted, and then entered the Forest God’s Fragment World, right?"

"I was ambushed by a Lizardman. Disgusting creature. Head-on, we would’ve been evenly matched."

As Yuan Lisha spoke of this, she couldn’t hide her resentment.

"So, after falling from the Crawling Area, you followed the Skinner’s orders, used a one-way Teleportation Gate to enter the Forest God’s Fragment World, and waited there for commands?"

"That’s right. But then some newbie wrecked my base. If it weren’t for a Trait from the Skinner that gave me two Divine Statues, I would’ve been screwed... The only downside is that the ability halves my Faith income now. Pros and cons, I guess."

Yuan Lisha snorted coldly. "Players these days are getting more and more gutless. All they know is how to sneak around. They don’t even have the courage to fight you face-to-face."

"I understand."

Songx Shiyi nodded.

Yuan Lisha’s and Lin Zecheng’s testimonies corroborated each other.

The Whistleblower and the Skinner were indeed scheming against each other in the Fragment World, mutually wary, and both intended to send in Demoted Gods.

However, Yuan Lisha, who had been the first one deployed, was ironically taken out of the picture early due to a bizarre twist of fate.

Songx Shiyi was now a little worried.

Once the Gods sent by the Whistleblower passed through the Teleportation Gate and arrived there,

that newcomer called Yao God would be in grave danger.

...

「In an ordinary forest on the Eastern Continent Grassland of the Fragmented Pixel World.」

A gray stone statue stood quietly on the ground.

The statue resembled a large stone plinth, but with a wide top and narrow base, it looked like an oversized mushroom carved from stone.

Moss grew on the mushroom statue, as if it had been there for many years.

A LV5 Blazing Chicken paced beside the statue, glancing around, clearly confused by the object. ’There wasn’t anything here before. When did this show up?’

A tongue suddenly shot out from the statue, instantly wrapping around the Blazing Chicken.

The Blazing Chicken struggled desperately, its body igniting in flames, but its attacker was completely unaffected by the fire. It easily dragged the chicken into the statue, where it disappeared. Afterward, the moss on the mushroom statue seemed a little richer.

A figure slowly emerged from the statue.

Its entire body was covered in green moss, like a clump of sludge that had taken human form.

The text above the moss-covered person’s head read: [Apostle LV20].

...

On a distant sea, another gray stone statue was also moving slowly through the water.

Beneath the stone stele was a massive white creature.

The text above its head read: [Apostle LV22].
