Chapter 87 - 82: Fire Dragon Massage
The Giant Snail’s territory was the only island in the Magma Lake.
"A dragon sleeps beneath this island."
Isabel explained, "The Wandering Souls say a Fire Dragon is sleeping here. That snail occupied this place, using the Dragon and Fire Elements to molt and grow stronger."
"The Dragon hasn’t woken up for a very long time."
The intel was sparse.
Luh Yao was puzzled.
’This was supposed to be a Newbie Village, so why are there so many high-level monsters lurking around?’
Never mind anything else. That Giant Snail alone, if a Divine Player hadn’t intervened when it got out, would have been enough to destroy any human tribe.
Logically, there shouldn’t be monsters of this level native to this area.
’Could the Dragon be one of the Skinner’s minions?’
The more Luh Yao thought about it, the more plausible it seemed.
’The Whistleblower left behind a garrison of Blood Knights. The Skinner, on the other hand, created an Altar, skinned the Tree People, and turned them into Mad Skinners... Maybe it left something big here, too.’
At this thought, Luh Yao became extra cautious, putting himself on high alert.
’This might turn into a tough fight.’
He immediately summoned the Deep Sea Lord from the sea, uniting the three members of his strongest dungeon-crawling team.
After Isabel cast Forest Sword on both the Blood Knight and the Deep Sea Lord, she retreated to the rim of the volcano.
Luh Yao used a Miracle to probe the situation.
A bolt of lightning struck the floating island.
A line of text appeared on the screen.
[Your Miracle was nullified by the protection of a Wonder.]
Luh Yao was a little confused.
’A Wonder? Here?’
’Did the Skinner build a Wonder here to act as a watchtower?’
The small island, which had been motionless, suddenly began to shake.
The ground within the magma abruptly rose, revealing a massive, ferocious head beneath it.
The island was actually the Dragon’s head.
Crimson magma flowed over the surface of the Dragon’s head, though the very top of it was black. Its head was covered in long, slender horns, and its eyes were two white vortexes.
It opened its mouth and roared. A torrent of fire erupted from between its sharp teeth, surging into every corner and quickly engulfing the volcano’s interior.
Both the Blood Knight and the Deep Sea Lord began taking continuous -1 damage.
Fortunately, they had high health and weren’t in immediate danger from the persistent burning.
They charged the Dragon’s head and began their attack.
For some reason, Luh Yao felt that something was off about this Fire Dragon.
He moved the mouse over the Dragon’s head.
...
[Pained Fire Dragon Spirit]
...
There were no stats, just a simple name.
Luh Yao frowned.
The battle itself was even stranger.
The Blood Knight and the Deep Sea Lord attacked relentlessly, inflicting a series of hits on the Fire Dragon Spirit.
-40
-40
But in the very next moment, healing numbers appeared over the Fire Dragon Spirit’s head.
+40
+40
...
It seemed to have some ridiculous healing mechanic inside the volcano.
But it wasn’t an unsolvable problem.
The notification about the Wonder’s protection suggested a connection between the Dragon and the Wonder hidden in the volcano.
In other words, all he had to do was bombard the area with lightning to destroy the Wonder. Once the Wonder was gone, the Dragon would lose its protection, and its health bar would probably appear. Then he could just finish it off.
This was the most straightforward, brute-force method.
Luh Yao thought for a moment.
’The key is the Dragon’s name: Pained Fire Dragon Spirit.’
’Could there be another way to deal with this Fire Dragon sleeping in the magma?’
Luh Yao decided to try something new.
He activated a Miracle again.
But this time, it wasn’t Lightning, nor was it Rainfall, which should theoretically counter fire. It was Scorching Sun.
Luh Yao cast Scorching Sun twice, targeting the top of the Fire Dragon’s head.
As the intense sunlight pierced through the volcano’s opening and shone down, the Fire Dragon slowly raised its head. Its jaws relaxed, its ferocious expression softened slightly, as if it were being soothed.
The notification about the Wonder’s protection didn’t appear.
’Looks like it’s working?’
Luh Yao continued to cast Scorching Sun.
Under the scorching heat, the Fire Dragon looked like it was enjoying a Thai massage. Its expression gradually changed from ferocious to calm, and then it squinted its eyes in satisfaction. The Fire Dragon even craned its neck, looking content and comfortable.
The Miracles kept descending, and while the Fire Dragon was clearly enjoying it, Luh Yao wasn’t seeing any rewards.
Each Scorching Sun cost 25 Faith, and he had already spent a total of 900 Faith Value.
Luh Yao gritted his teeth and continued.
Since he was trying something new, he had to be prepared for the possibility of failure and ending up with nothing to show for it.
After casting the 60th Scorching Sun, Luh Yao noticed a change in the Fire Dragon.
At some point, the name above its head had changed to Fire Dragon Spirit; the ’Pained’ prefix was gone.
This put Luh Yao in an awkward spot.
’Should I keep going?’
’I’ve come this far... I might as well see it through and find out what else happens.’
Luh Yao continued to cast Scorching Sun, ignoring the cost.
After the 120th Scorching Sun landed on the Fire Dragon’s head, its name changed once more.
[Delighted Fire Dragon Spirit]
Luh Yao couldn’t help but wonder.
’Am I just changing its status? Raising its affection level?’
’A dating sim route?’
3,000 Faith down the drain just like that. Even for Luh Yao, who was rich in Faith, it stung.
Just as he was preparing to stop and cut his losses, the Fire Dragon suddenly raised its head and spat something out.
The object slowly rose and floated in the center of the computer screen. It looked like a monocle.
It automatically jumped into the Artifact Bar on the right—which contained all the various simulator Artifacts Luh Yao had collected. The Dragon, on the other hand, sank into the Magma Lake and disappeared without a trace.
A notification appeared in the simulator.
[Having been stripped of its agony, the Fire Dragon Spirit found long-awaited peace. It has reintegrated into the Wonder.]
Luh Yao moved his mouse to the Artifact Bar, hovering over the new monocle.
...
[Mirror of Fiery Flame]: Faith +5/hour. Can activate [Aegir’s Fire].
A special substance formed by Rule Power that cannot be enhanced. It can gather Fire Elements at an extremely slow rate. This effect is lost when Aegir’s Fire is activated. A treasure of the Undersea Walker tribe.
...
Luh Yao felt a strange mix of emotions.
’To think Aegir’s Fire was this close all along.’
What he hadn’t expected at all was that the Fire Dragon was indeed connected to the Skinner. It just wasn’t the Skinner’s minion, but a victim, just like the Tree People.
Although his bold experiment had its ups and downs, his luck held out, and he received a very worthwhile reward.
He clicked on the Mirror of Fiery Flame, and sure enough, an ’Activate’ option appeared.
Upon activation, the Mirror of Fiery Flame suddenly enlarged. A Cross Star appeared on its surface, which had a numerical indicator on it (5/5).
Luh Yao found he could move the Cross Star with his mouse.
He recalled what the Undersea Walkers had said.
"Aegir’s Fire can summon a cataclysm and launch burning boulders like heavenly fire from a great distance..."
’Could it be...’
Luh Yao tried zooming out with the Mirror of Fiery Flame, aiming the crosshairs on the adjacent world map. He randomly selected a small island near the northern part of the Western Continent.
He clicked the mouse.
He kept his eyes fixed on the forest area.
The Black Mountain Range suddenly spewed a plume of thick smoke. The dense, straight column of smoke shot toward the skyline, and numerous red-hot, magma-coated rocks were launched up into the clouds.
Suddenly, a fiery light flashed in the sky. A meteor trailing flames plummeted from above, striking the target island dead center.
Then came a second, a third, a fourth...
The meteor shower began a massive bombardment of the island, smashing it until the entire landmass was engulfed in raging flames. A moment later, the whole island sank into the sea, creating a giant vortex and sending out waves in all directions.
Luh Yao watched this scene, utterly dumbfounded.
’So it really does summon meteors... and it’s a long-range area-of-effect strike.’
With such absurd long-range, precision bombardment firepower, it was no wonder the Undersea Walkers had been able to hold out for so long during the Divine War.
Meanwhile, the number on the Mirror of Fiery Flame changed to 4/5.
Luh Yao understood.
This kind of firepower needed Charging. But regardless of the recharge time, this long-range, precision-strike capability had immense strategic value.
He moved his mouse over the Black Mountain Range.
...
[Aegir’s Fire]: The Deep Sea God imprisoned a Fire Dragon and fashioned it into a Wonder capable of launching powerful Flaming Giant Stones. The replenishment speed of Flaming Giant Stones is related to the Fire Element and Earth Element.
Life Value: 12,000/12,000 (4/5)
Damage: 2,400
Defense: 0
Speed: 20
All nearby Fire Element units gain an increased growth rate.
...
So the black volcano was Aegir’s Fire.
After he obtained the Wonder, the Apostle Mark in the upper-left corner increased again, now showing 2 available slots.
Luh Yao was beginning to understand.
