My Taming System Makes Me Overpowered

Chapter 189: Sovereign alliance

The grand, marble arches of the Imperial Palace lower solar were cold, but they provided shelter from the dust still settling over the capital.

By noon, Elder Everwood arrived alongside a dedicated contingent of elven medics from the First Canopy. The lower solar was transformed into an emergency triage center, glowing with the soft green light of restoration magic.

Vetra was brought in on a floating transport litter, her core wrapped in dense life-mote bandages. Though still pale and forced to remain stationary, her eyes were sharp as she caught Vince’s gaze across the room. She offered a brief, respectful nod of her head—a tacit acknowledgment of the victory won—before the medics wheeled her into a quiet recovery chamber.

Out in the courtyard, Duchess Rosalind landed her broom near the grand entrance, her cloak flying back as she met with the surviving captains of the Imperial Guard. With Emperor Marcus dead and his world-ending domain erased, the remaining garrison had no stomach for further bloodshed.

Acting as an intermediary, Rosalind brought the garrison commander before Vince.

"There will be no mass executions," Vince stated, his voice calm and absolute as he stood in the center of the solar. "No indiscriminate purges. Disarm your men, secure the city quarters against looting, and maintain basic order. The tyranny had ended, but the law remains."

The commander bowed low, visible relief washing over his face as he departed to execute the orders.

By late afternoon, a brief council was convened around a long oak table salvaged from the council chamber.

Queen Moriele, her silver robes stained but her posture regal, sat with her wounded arm bound in white linen. Across from her, King Golrath leaned heavily against the table, his chest wrapped in thick leather splints.

"The throne is gone, and Marcus with it," Golrath grunted, his amber eyes resting on Vince with uncharacteristic gravity. "You held back a force that would have turned the continent to dust, boy. The Beast-Realms know when to bow to absolute strength. I’ll not contest your right to rule."

"Nor will the High Elves," Moriele added softly, her pale hand resting on her staff. "You hold power that transcends mortal crowns, Vince."

Vince leaned against the edge of the table, shaking his head slightly. "I’m not taking the title of Emperor. We aren’t replacing one tyrant with another."

He looked around the table at the surviving leaders. "We establish a Sovereign alliance Independent realms, equal representation, and mutual defense. The capital will serve as a neutral seat for governance, not an iron seat of oppression."

Moriele and Golrath exchanged a long look before nodding in silent assent. The groundwork for a new world order was laid not with decrees, but with a quiet agreement born of shared survival.

As dusk fell, casting long golden-purple shadows across the ruined palace, the heavy duties of statecraft finally began to wind down.

In the medical ward, Lyrielle sat quietly by her mother’s bedside, her hands glowing with a soft, steady green light as she carefully applied concentrated elven salve to Moriele’s damaged mana channels. Mother and daughter spoke in low, hushed tones, the long-standing tension between their political duties finally dissolving into quiet care.

In the adjacent chamber, Livia stood with her hands on her hips, glaring at King Golrath, who was sitting up on his cot and grumbling incessantly at the young beast-kin healers.

"I don’t need another bowl of bitter root tea!" Golrath roared, his deep voice rattling the stone walls. "I need a tankard of heavy beast-realm ale! Cold! Fetch the garrison kegs!"

"You will drink your medicine and sit still, Golrath!" Livia snapped back, her six silver tails flaring out in exasperation as she forced him back onto the pillows. "If you tear those chest splints open again, I’ll personally tie you to that cot!"

Golrath grumbled incoherently under his breath, but reluctantly leaned back, eyeing his wife with begrudging respect as she forced him to take the potion.

With the others occupied, Vince walked slowly down the long, secluded corridor leading to the private imperial quarters—a quiet suite of rooms overlooking the western gardens that had escaped the destruction of the main throne room.

The heavy oak door opened softly, and Vince stepped inside.

A warm, crackling fire burned in the stone hearth, illuminating the dark velvet furnishings. Standing by a washbasin near the balcony doors was Elena. She had shed her silver armor, wearing only a soft, loose linen tunic, her long hair damp and dark from washing away the soot and dust of the siege.

She turned as the door closed, her dark eyes locking onto Vince.

The weight of the divine transformation, the endless battles, and the life-or-death decisions seemed to evaporate the moment they were left alone in the quiet firelight.

Vince walked over to the basin, resting his hands against the wooden stand as he stared into the water. "The garrison is secured. The Sovereigns agreed to the alliance terms."

Elena didn’t answer right away. She picked up a warm, damp cloth from the basin and stepped up behind him. Gently, reverently, she began to wipe away the dried blood and dust clinging to the back of his neck and shoulders.

Vince closed his eyes, letting out a long, shuddering breath at the touch of her warm hands. The divine aura was gone; here, in the dim light of the hearth, he was just a man—exhausted, bruised, and grounded by the quiet touch of the woman beside him.

"You don’t have to carry the world tonight, Vince," Elena whispered softly, her fingers trailing down to rest against his collarbone, her breath warm against his skin. "It’s just us now."

Vince turned slowly to face her, his purple eyes burning with an intense, unreserved heat as he looked down at her. He reached out, his hand cupping the side of her face, his thumb gently tracing the line of her cheekbone.

Elena leaned into his palm, her breathing hitching slightly as her hands slid up to rest on his bare chest, the silent tension between them pulling them together into the firelit shadow of the room.
