The Parent Trap

Chapter 49

Chapter 49

Carly Lewis

POV

"I think it’s time we went home..." Chase says.

"Oh yes. I’m hungry..." Koah says placing a hand on her belly.

I do the same placing a hand on mind. Something flashes in my mind and pain follows.

I let out a shriek clutching my head to try and stop the pain as an agonizing pain pierces through my skull. My body felt lifeless.

One second I was looking at Koah and the next it felt like someone stabbed me in the brain.

====

I was pregnant. I still couldn’t believe it. I was eight months along and I still couldn’t believe one drunken mistake got me something I still didn’t fully understand.

I placed a hand over my stomach as I walked down the busy sidewalk. I hadn’t expected how hard it would be to spy on someone while pregnant.

I was constantly tired, gone were the days where I could go days without sleep. Now I could barely go twelve hours without sleep.

I’d gotten what I came for. I needed to leave New York and head to Chicagowhere he was.

Finding him was easier than I expected. I was expecting a needle in a haystack. I only had one clue at first. His first name and the colour of his eyes. It took Trina all but two hours to find him.

I waited five months to find him. I was planning on approaching him. But if the organisation found out about the baby, they’ll try to take her and for some reason, I was completely against the idea of having my child in the organization.

I didn’t understand it, it was all I knew growing up, but something James said stuck with me. He said if he ever had children he’d rather have the woman hide his kids from the organization and never see them again. He didn’t want them to suffer the way he did.

I grab a cab and head for JFK. I needed to be in Chicago. I wanted to make sure I had the right person before I left a baby with a man I didn’t know left from right.

Chase Jacobs...

I knew I couldn’t approach him myself. But I had a plan. I was going to ask Quinn to help me. She’s stationed in Chicago. She’ll be perfect for my cover.

"Widow we’re running into some interference. You can’t go to Chicago. You need to disappear. They’re sending Yetta after you. You need to give birth earlier than we planned..." She says softly.

I grab my phone out of my pocket pretend to dial a number and put it to my ear. "Hey, get James to secure me Carly Lewis. I need to be in Chicago..." I tell her.

"Lisa... It’s too late. We need to fake your miscarriage now. They’re already looking into you..." She sighs.

I bite my thumb. "Okay, I need you to secure me RXE13." I tell her.

"Lisa that’s dangerous. You could die..."

I sigh, I place my hand on my stomach a small smile playing in my lips. The plan was simple at first. I would drop her off after I gave birth, pretend I had a miscarriage and join them later as Carly Lewis. I wouldn’t remember anything about Lisa or Widow. But to make sure I didn’t regain any of my memories as Widow I’d need to keep taking RXE13. Its a drug that makes it hard to remember anything. Unless something happened and I stopped taking them. It was Quinn’s job to make sure I took them.

But now. I don’t think I’ll be able to join her. Not that it mattered much. Only the baby mattered. Getting her to Chase Jacobs mattered. I needed to make sure she had no connection to me.

The reason I heavily pregnant broke into Chase’s apartment.

I needed the man’s DNA.

I couldn’t help but pay attention to the the cars passing us, making sure no one was following us.

I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding.

I felt a kick to my ribs. My smile brightened. "Don’t worry you’ll be safe..." I whispered to her... I was going to make sure she didn’t grow up the way I did.

She wouldn’t have to switch off her emotions like I did.

"I understand, get everything ready Trina. I’m on my way..." I sigh placing the phone back in my pocket and telling my driver about the change of plans.

I blinked and I was standing in front of a building holding her close to my chest.

A tears threatened to fall but I forced them down. I nearly cursed Ghost for cursing me. He told me I was going to know what if felt like to love someone and I knew I was doing the right thing. She deserved more than I could give her.

I knew Chase was coming in today and I needed to be gone before he got here.

I walked in, I spotted my target.

I handed her my daughter but she refused at first but I didn’t let her.

I leaned in. "If you don’t take her and give her to Chase Jacobs, I’ll make sure you’re arrested for that little addiction of yours..."

Her shoulders tense but she takes her.

I hesitate looking down at her, my daughter. If things went wrong I’ll either be dead or I wouldn’t even remember her. I never see her again.

We’d gotten the DNA tests results two days ago. Trina handed it to me, and I sat at the kitchen counter alone reading it. I’d gotten two done, one for me and one was in the blanket with Stella.

I looked at her before stepping back and walking out of the building making sure I didn’t look back.

When I was two blocks away. I took off the cap and the wig throwing it in the bin. Quickly changing into a jean and a casual top.

"Lisa get out of there. Yetta is a block off you..." Trina warns.

I make a run for it.

I apologize to Stella in my head. "I’m sorry. I’m so sorry I couldn’t stay yet. Sorry I had to drop you with your dad before you could even remember my face..." I murmur.

I pressed my hand to my flat stomach, I made a promise to Estrella Jacobs. I was going to come back for her.

I named her after my mother. My mother’s name was Estrella and she went by Stella for short.

"I will be back..." I said softly. "For both of you, I just needed to die first..."

"Widow you have nowhere to run..." Yetta says with a bright smirk on her face as I come to a stop in front of her.

I sighed. I tilted my head looking at her. I didn’t say anything. I didn’t need to.

Though I knew the plans changed. I was never going to see my daughter again...

I’m sorry Estrella. I never even got the chance to tell your father your real name.

I didn’t even tell Trina her name was Estrella everyone assumed her name was Stella.

"Why?" Yetta asks.

I frown. "What are you talking about?" I ask.

I didn’t try to run, I knew I would never out run Yetta, she’d turn it into a game and torture me until I gave up.

"Why hide her?" she asks me.

"Because she’s innocent. I’ll return but please don’t go after her..." I ask.

Yetta’s eyes softens. She nods.

She walks up to me I let her hit the base of my neck.

I slump against her as she knocks me out. "Thank you..." I whisper out...

=====

I woke with a gasp. I stared wide eyed at the room... Where was I?

The room was dark and quiet. I stilled when I saw Stella’s nightlight on the bedside table.

I saw Chase sitting beside me asleep his head on my hand.

The dream was starting fade, but my head was still throbbing. Those meds brought the migraines back.

Chase moves. His eyes find mine.

His eyes widen. He looks like he wants to say something, but Stella is asleep on the other side of me.

I get up and make my way out of the room Chase follows after me.

I look at Stella one last time before closing the door behind Chase.

"Her name isn’t Stella..." I murmur out.

Chase looks at me confused. "What?"

I look at him. "I named Stella after my mother..." As soon as I say that the throbbing becomes more intense. "Her name is Estrella. Stella was meant to be a nickname." I tell him.

Chase looked at me thoughtfully. "Well that would have been nice to know from the start... Do you know your name?" he asks.

I shake my head. "No one has ever called me anything but Lisa or Widow..." I tell him honestly. "I don’t think they knew my real name..." I add.

He sighs. "Well Estrella is a wonderful name however she’s already Stella everywhere else..." he reminds me.

I nod. I look at the closed room door deep in thought.

I fought to protect her. It seems I was prepared to die.

I knew I’d never see her again and I was okay with as long as she was safe. I felt a little complicated...

I couldn’t describe what I was feeling exactly.
