My Wife Never Knew Who I Really Was

Chapter 37 – Vivian Would Like Him

When Celeste heard her secretary say that Ethan had recently been in contact with Vivian, she thought for a moment that she had misheard.

She confirmed again and again. "Are you sure it's Vivian West? Vivian West of West Group?"

"President Shaw, there is no mistake. I confirmed this information multiple times."

The secretary's firm voice came clearly through the earpiece, leaving no room for doubt.

Celeste forced herself to calm down.

Only after several deep breaths did she speak again.

"Has anything happened between them? What is their relationship now?"

She desperately wanted to understand this point.

The secretary fell silent for one second, seeming to consider her wording.

"For now, we still don't know clearly. We only know the two of them have had frequent contact recently. As for the details... we need more time to investigate."

Celeste closed her eyes and raised a hand to her forehead. Her mind was in chaos.

"Fine. I understand."

"Keep investigating. If you find anything, notify me immediately."

"Yes, President Shaw."

After receiving that answer and hanging up, Celeste did not start the car right away.

She sat quietly in the driver's seat, staring at the empty road ahead in a long daze.

"Why would Vivian get involved with someone like him?"

The thought had barely appeared before an even more terrifying thought followed it.

"Could Ethan be Vivian's new boyfriend?"

The idea had only just sprouted when Celeste shook her head and denied it herself.

"Impossible. Impossible. Absolutely impossible."

She murmured, her voice becoming more certain. "With Vivian's standards, how could she ever like a man like that?"

She recalled the way Vivian had treated Ethan in the past.

Vivian had been so cold toward him that she barely bothered to glance at him.

At every gathering, Vivian had intentionally or unintentionally avoided Ethan. Even when her gaze swept over him, it carried disdain and dislike.

Celeste still remembered that Vivian had advised her more than once.

Celeste, you deserve better. That man doesn't match you at all. I honestly don't know why, when you had so many outstanding pursuers, you chose to marry him, and so suddenly too.

But...

Celeste's brows tightened, and she could not stop her imagination from running wild.

She had just divorced Ethan, and now those two were involved.

The timing was too coincidental.

"Could it be that Vivian acted like that before just to make me divorce Ethan so she could take over immediately?"

The moment she said it, even Celeste herself was frightened by the thought.

"What nonsense am I thinking? How could that be possible?"

As best friends, no one knew Vivian's character better than Celeste.

They had known each other for more than ten years. They had gone through storms together and knew each other's roots.

Vivian would never do something like that.

Never.

Celeste tightened her grip on the steering wheel, and clarity slowly returned to her eyes.

She quickly thought of another decisive factor.

"It wasn't as if I never investigated him at the beginning. He was completely clean. How could he possibly have that kind of charm and powerful background?"

This was where Celeste's confidence came from.

If Ethan truly had that kind of background and ability, why would he willingly become her live-in husband for three years just for five million dollars?

The more she thought about it, the more Celeste felt that she was probably overthinking.

Vivian's boyfriend had to be someone else.

"As for why Ethan came into contact with Vivian, it's probably because he couldn't eat from my bowl anymore and decided to aim for Vivian. After pestering her and failing, he must have found another target."

"Yes. It must be that."

After convincing herself, Celeste started the car and drove back into the lane.

She stopped thinking about it and continued toward the restaurant.

If she kept imagining things, her heart would truly become a mess.

Celeste could not picture what it would look like if her closest friend got together with the man she looked down on most.

At Fulmont Mall, on the first floor near the elevators.

Ding.

With a soft chime, the elevator doors slowly opened.

Ethan and Vivian walked out side by side, carrying the gift they had just bought.

They were talking and laughing, and the atmosphere between them was relaxed.

"Do you think Celeste will like this?" Vivian lifted the gift box in her hand, still a little uncertain.

"You chose it so carefully. It can't be wrong," Ethan replied.

As they stepped out of the elevator, Ethan's gaze accidentally landed on an elderly man waiting at the entrance.

The old man looked to be in his seventies. His silver hair was combed meticulously, and he wore a carefully tailored dark traditional jacket.

Although he was old, his back remained straight. His entire body carried the authority of someone long accustomed to standing above others.

He was clearly not an ordinary person.

At this moment, he held a black cane and was preparing to enter the elevator.

Vivian noticed him as well and instinctively restrained the smile on her face.

She stepped aside and nodded politely.

"Please be careful, sir."

The old man raised his eyes and looked at Vivian. Approval flashed through his gaze.

He nodded slightly, his voice a little hoarse.

"Thank you..."

Before the words were fully out, he lifted his cane and prepared to step forward.

Suddenly, his body stiffened.

In the next second, the cane slipped from his hand and fell to the floor.

The old man clutched his chest, his fingers wrinkling his clothes, and his whole body fell straight toward the ground.

Ethan reacted quickly and reached out to support him.

Vivian was startled by the scene.

She looked around, alarm rising in her heart.

Could this be a setup?

The thought had just appeared when an angry shout came from the distance.

"Stop! What are you doing to Mr. Montgomery?"

Heavy footsteps approached quickly. A large, burly man rushed over.

He looked at least six feet three, with broad shoulders and a thick build. He wore a black suit, and his face was heavy with muscle. He was clearly trained.

Vivian's expression changed.

Great.

Was this really a scam?

She instinctively moved closer to Ethan.

The burly man reached them in a few strides. Seeing the old man collapsed in Ethan's arms, his face instantly turned iron-blue.

"You dare hurt Mr. Montgomery? You're dead!"

His fists cracked as he clenched them. Then he threw a punch straight at Ethan's face.

The wind from the punch whistled. The force was terrifying.

Ethan did not even lift his eyelids.

One hand supported the old man. The other rose casually, fingers half curled, and caught the punch with ease.

Slap.

Fist met palm with a muffled sound.

The burly man's fist was held firmly in Ethan's palm, unable to move.

His eyes widened in disbelief.

That punch had at least a thousand pounds of force behind it. Even a professional fighter would not dare receive it carelessly.

But this young man, who looked lean and relaxed, had blocked it so easily?

The burly man tried to pull his hand back.

It did not move.

Ethan's fingers were like the jaws of a tiger, biting down on his fist with frightening strength.

The burly man's face changed sharply. Knowing he had met a real expert, he reached toward his waist.

Ethan finally lifted his gaze, his eyes cold.

"Did you grow all that muscle and forget to grow a brain?"

His voice was not loud, but it carried a pressure that could not be questioned.

"The old man is obviously in shock from a sudden illness. I helped support him. That's a crime now?"
