Killer Maid’s Pride

The Sanctuary of Brackish Bay

The rain in the Sunken Port of Brackish Bay didn't fall; it blew sideways, whipped into a freezing frenzy by the dark ocean gale. The streets here were choked with dark, brackish seawater, forcing Elara and her pack to navigate the upper scaffolding of the rotting timber piers, keeping completely to the shadows of the barnacle-encrusted stone ruins.

"Perimeter check, Hops," Elara murmured into her comm-collar, her voice entirely deadpan despite the wind howling through her lace trim.

"They're moving in, Master!" Hops’ voice crackled back with a sharp edge of panic. From her high vantage point in a rusted iron belfry, the rabbit-kin scout was tracking the lower courtyard. "Six of Scurlock's land-based slave catchers. They've got iron crowbars and heavy nets. They're trying to force the rear reinforced door of the orphanage!"

Elara dropped down from a wooden crane platform, her boots hitting a stone ledge with absolute, muffled silence—Mochi's shadow-stalking perk keeping her completely soundless. Right behind her came Bridget, the giant human shield-maiden holding her massive steel tower shield low to protect against the spray, her face set in a grim, determined expression.

"Form up," Elara commanded softly. "The doorstep requires an immediate chemical wash."

In the flooded courtyard of the ancient, crumbling stone church, six rough-looking pirates in oilskin coats were violently kicking at the heavy oak doors.

"Open up, old man!" one of the thugs barked, swinging a heavy iron crowbar against the wood. "We know you've got three fresh continental cat-kin cubs inside! Scurlock's buyers are paying top coin for silver fur, and we aren't leaving empty-handed!"

Thwip.

A shadow descended from the storm clouds like a falling anchor.

Before the lead pirate could even turn around, Elara appeared directly behind him. Utilizing her [Serpent’s Elasticity], her spine flexed forward in a smooth, fluid, rubber-like lean, completely bypassing his peripheral vision. Her right hand, backed by the raw, physical strength multiplier she had inherited from Fen, shot forward like a hydraulic piston.

CRACK.

Her dense, high-density palm strike caught the thug squarely in the center of his chest. The blunt force transferred a violent internal shockwave straight through his ribs, driving the air from his lungs instantly. His eyes rolled back into his head as his knees buckled, sending him crashing face-first into the flooded cobblestones, completely unconscious.

"Intruder!" the remaining five thugs screamed, drawing rusted, poison-coated cutlasses.

"Shield-wall!" Bridget roared.

The giant human woman leaped forward, slamming her massive steel tower shield into the ground with a deafening CLANG that fractured the cobblestones. Two of the pirates lunged, their blades clashing uselessly against the enchanted steel. While they were stalled, Fen loomed over the flank, her golden wolf-kin eyes flashing in the dark as her powerful, bare midriff flexed. She delivered a brutal sweeping kick that sent two more cutthroats flying into the stone arches.

Elara didn't stop moving. Her [Weasel’s Resolve] kept her mind in a state of absolute, icy stillness. She slipped inside the guard of the final two slave catchers, her body shifting with hyper-agility as she effortlessly dodged their panicked slashes. Two rapid, clinical palm strikes to their temples, and the remaining thugs dropped like sacks of flour into the murky water.

The courtyard fell into a sudden, heavy silence, broken only by the crashing waves of the harbor and the heavy panting of the winded pirates.

Elara stood perfectly upright, entirely unbothered as she smoothed down her pristine white apron. "The doorstep is officially sanitized."

The heavy oak door of the church suddenly creaked open, a pale beam of warm lantern light cutting through the dark rain.

Standing in the doorway, a heavy iron wood-splitting axe held firmly in her hands, was a woman who made Bridget look almost petite.

She was a stunning bear-kin named Nadia. Her build was exceptionally athletic; she possessed a thick, toned washboard midriff, powerful, sculpted arms that held the heavy axe without a single tremor, and wide, heavy hips that tapered down into strong, dense thighs. She was wearing a simple, tight-fitting linen tunic and breeches, her round, fuzzy bear ears pinned back flat against her brown hair as she scanned the pile of unconscious thugs.

Behind her, holding a small brass lantern, stood an old, blind human priest with milky-white eyes, his hands trembling slightly.

Nadia lowered the axe slightly, her deep amber eyes wide with absolute astonishment as she looked at Elara’s pristine maid uniform, then at the half-naked beastkin pack flanking her. Her nose twitched, catching the distinct scent of high-tier predators.

"You..." Nadia breathed, her powerful chest heaving under her tunic as she looked at Elara. "You just took down Scurlock's extraction squad in under ten seconds. Who are you? The local resistance?"

"I am the Head Maid," Elara replied, her voice a cool, pleasant melody as she slid her iron crowbar back into her apron loops. "And this facility is currently operating under a severe deficit of domestic security. We are here to lease the upper quarters and establish a regional cleaning schedule."

Nadia blinked, her athletic frame tensing for a moment before she looked back at the old priest, then down at Elara's unblinking, reassuring expression. A slow, deeply relieved breath escaped her lips, her shoulders finally dropping.

"If you're here to clean Scurlock's filth out of this port..." Nadia murmured, a fierce, protective maternal smile touching her lips as her round ears perked up. "Then welcome to the sanctuary. We've got a lot of dirty laundry for you."
