First Chapter: Sister Twisted
Hair of dark blue, skin of cherry red; that was what she was now. Horns that seemed to clip like that of a knife, those were planted upon her forehead. It was a strange thing, to suddenly see someone else in the mirror of one’s lake.
In a cage she was; barred from ever leaving. It was a weird thing to suddenly be somewhere else. She had been a he, simply sleeping in her bed, all sweaty from the hot night air. Then, she had dreamt of her life as a brother to someone.
This someone was the woman who looked down upon the water. Eyes of red, hair short and cut neatly. She stared at herself for a very long time. She stared at the water, the moonlight above her head hanging like a guillotine. She wasn’t even tired. She had no grand evil plight to wreak upon the world. Twister, the woman’s face who she wore like it was always hers, stared blankly.
“What the fuck happened?” she asked herself.
This was the face of a nineties cartoon villain. Twister was her name, as in twisted sister. It wasn’t clever, she had never thought so.
“How many people would let me step on them? How many early nineties kids want to bed me right now?” she asked herself.
She got up from her kneeling position upon the earthen floor, and looked to the moon. It was full, and its light was beaming down at her. She had gone from man to demon woman. What was she even supposed to do?
She was in a shallow cave, the bars to her prison were thick, and she couldn’t leave without great effort. She kept staring up at the moon, as if the celestial body had all the answers. She stepped closer to the bars, the illuminated grass outside glittering with dew and light for all there to see.
She was alone, of course. She was the only one there. Sadness wasn’t even in her mind.
“Why am I here?” she asked the moonlight, and she made the mistake of stepping in the puddle where her visage was reflected.
Her bare foot hit the surface gently, yet her body felt like it was hit cleanly with a cannon. She shifted her weight as she felt her body grow heavier. Her bones crunched with the renewed gravity. Her muscles strained under the pressure.
She could feel herself die for a second time then, and she fell through the bars, and into the pond. Moonlight carried her further, piercing the darkness as she felt the weight grow, but her mind grew clearer. Confusion, yet clarity was assailing her. She knew not what she was experiencing as she fell.
Yet, the strange gravitas that she had been attacked with left her as soon as she saw a light at the end of the tunnel. The lake-pond-thing, it had no end save for the bottom. The bottom opened up and she felt light, lighter than had ever felt.
It felt like a jolly father, happy at the sight of the daughter he never had. It felt like the warm hug of a mother, after just hearing of the son’s spent day. As a warm hearth, she felt the warmth of the sun on her skin, and her eyes closed as the light blinded her for but a moment.
She felt the light burn her, and the feeling of wakefulness took her. There, in as meadow of green and lavender flowers, divine in smell, she awoke. Her breastplate, her bloodred breastplate glinted in the sun. Her battle skirt that looked like something out of the nineties flittered, and she felt the wind on her skin.
She Woke Up.
