The Grand Catastrophe

Chapter 19: Shock and Awe, part three (93)

...

Jircniv took a step out of his carriage. He then shivered slightly, finally realizing that the wind was bringing in the rain. It was somewhat saddening, in a mundane way. That the rain might ruin the talks.

As he looked arond the area, he spotted a group of strange maids. They wore strange attire, with bits and pieces of armor. There were two standing there, A tan skinned woman, and a fair skinned one. The two of them seemed like the epitome of professionalism. He looked beyond them, at some tables that had been set up, for them, he assumed. Many of the tables had umbrellas over them. Other tables were simply bare.

Jircniv waited for his people to exit the carriages that they had walked in, and now moved to greet the maids in front of him. There they stood, stiff as frozen butter. As he walked forward, the lead one spoke. Her tone was stiff, yet smooth like butter.

“Greetings Lord Jircniv Rune Farlord El-Nix, I am Yuri Alpha of the Six Star Battle maids. I and my sister, Lupisregina Beta will be aiding you all and are in charge of all the refreshments that you may need,” she said, then bowed along with the other maid that he assumed to be Lupisregina Beta.

He nodded his head in confirmation and affirmation. He had prepared himself to meet the people and monsters under her reign and watch. He smiled his best smile. He spoke his most honeyed words.

“We seem to all have simply been refreshed by you yourselves. To have such beauties here is good for the spirit,” he told them, yet Yuri Alpha simply smiled and nodded her head.

He was a bit shocked that she hadn’t given him a bigger reaction. After all, many women had swooned at that smile. He wondered just what he would see in this tomb. As he wondered in his mind, he heard the footsteps of a certain old man excitedly looking this way and that.

As the two maids walked over to the tables and chairs, he himself turned to his old tutor. He looked on as the old man soaked in all the knowledge and all the actions of the people there to greet them. Jircniv had never seen the old man so excited.

“I cannot wait until we go inside and see all that there is to see!” Fluder exclaimed, “I wonder if the Lady Momonga will let me see her library if I ask, or if she even has a library,” he pondered aloud.

Jircniv nodded his head at the old man. He would rather not lose the old man in a maze of old papers, yet he kept that thought in his mind. After all. It wouldn’t do to annoy these people with words.

“You’d have to ask them at a later date. After all, we are here to apologize to her, not to ask other such things,” her reminded the old man, and he nodded his bearded head.

“Yes, yes, that makes the most sense. I do wonder what this place shall be like, though? It is a question that we must at least all be wondering,” he pondered.

The four imperial knights gathered around Jircniv as he and Fluder started to talk more. Yet as they did so, something in the air shifted. Jircniv looked to the side. There, there a building stood that he had simply passed off to go and speak to the battle maids.

There, when the doors opened, he saw it. It was a swirling portal of purple. Out of the purple, came beasts of undeath. Massive beasts that dwarfed his own men by several feet walked out from the portal.

He looked on, slightly frightened, well he was actually rather frightened. These beasts were obviously rather powerful. If the way that his knights seemed to stiffen, and the way that Fluder looked on like he was a puppy who had just seen his master after years of war.

“Fluder,” he started, and the old mage looked up at him with a grin plastered over his face, “what are those?!” he yelled out, his nerves getting the better of him.

Fluder looked at them once more. He then nodded his head, and stroked his beard as he looked over them. He nodded his head rapidly, in an almost comical fashion. Jircniv frowned as he looked at him.

“They are death knights. The undead that I have kept under the castle is one of these. Yet, I not been able to dominate it. It seems that she truly has been able to; that is a point for her to be a goddess as well,” Fluder explained, and Jircniv simply frowned deeper and watched on as the undead placed refreshments and snacks on the table.

It was after a minute or two of this, that the battles maids then spoke again, the death knights now retreating into the portal after their duty was done. He looked on at them, as they walked back to the portal. He sighed and looked to the battle maids.

“Now that we have set up the snacks and refreshments, it is time to clear up this rather dreadful weather,” she intoned and Jircniv looked up at a sudden sound.

There, in the sky of course where else would it be, the clouds moved and shifted. Then, they simply moved away. The sun was clear as it had been on the way over. The light lit up and warmed the grounds around them. It was that he noticed how cold he had been.

“That was at least a sixth-tier spell! Yet I believe it to be higher!” Jircniv heard Fluder yell out.

He turned to the man, and scowled as he yelled out a question. It came off as more of an order. Yet, it was still treated as one all the same.

“What has happened? What was that spell?!” he asked, and Fluder looked to him.

The look on the old man’s face was of utter enrapturement. It was like he had just met a god. Then again, this magic was cast by the subordinates of a deity. So there was that. His scowl lessoned somewhat. Then it became brittle as Fluder spoke.

“I just said, that was beyond a sixth-tier spell. I can’t even begin to tell you!” Fluder said, and Jircniv simply looked on, more annoyed that some part of himself had expected this.
