The Omega Who Rose from the Ashes: The Alpha's Regret

Chapter 47: Confessions and Comfort

Bradley

After everyone left, Trishelle and I sat in silence, the weight of the Councilwoman’s words pressing down on us like a physical force. The air in my office - usually a place of command and control - felt heavy, charged with an uncertainty that made my wolf pace restlessly beneath my skin. I broke the tension first.

"I know it’s a lot to absorb," I said, keeping my voice low and measured. "But trust me, we’ll get through this together."

Trishelle sat up from the couch and leaned her head on my shoulder, seeking the comfort I desperately wanted to provide. I felt the slight tremor running through her body, the barely suppressed fear she was trying so hard to hide. She wanted a distraction - I could tell from the way her breathing had changed, the way her fingers fidgeted with the hem of her shirt. She brought up the first thing that came to mind.

"Why did you call her ’Auntie’?"

I couldn’t help but chuckle, the sound rumbling through my chest. I knew this question would surface eventually. "Because she is," I said simply. Then I started talking, the words flowing more easily than I’d expected. I wanted to share so much of myself and my life with her, to build a bridge between my world and hers, to show her that she belonged here, with me, in every way that mattered.

I told her how Councilwoman Seers had been present since the day I was born, how she’d held me before my own father had. She was my mother’s best friend and my father’s most trusted advisor, the steady constant in our pack’s leadership. I shared stories of my childhood - her teaching me to track in the woods when I was barely old enough to shift, the times she’d covered for me when I’d snuck out as a teenager to meet friends by the lake. I even confessed how she’d once caught me trying to "borrow" my father’s ceremonial blade and, instead of reporting me, had taught me how to properly wield it.

It took almost an hour, but I was glad to see her pale complexion improve as she laughed at the funny and sometimes overly dramatic portions of my story. The sound of her laughter soothed my frayed nerves like a balm, each giggle loosening the knots of tension that had gathered in my shoulders.

When I finished, I cupped her face, her skin impossibly soft under my calloused hands. I leaned in and gave her a kiss that was as sweet as it was warm. It wasn’t a kiss of passion or desire, but of pure, unadulterated care - the kind of kiss that spoke of promises and protection. It was a kiss that told her just how much she meant to me, and I felt Trishelle melt into it, the warmth seeping down to her bones, melting away the worries that had been plaguing her, at least for the moment.

I got up and stretched, my muscles tight from the day’s accumulated stress. Pulling my Luna to her feet, I held her hand as we left my office, her smaller fingers intertwining perfectly with mine. "Come on, love. Remember your friend needed you, and I, for one, always try to keep my word."

Trishelle

We found Samuel in his room, lying on his bed with a goofy, dazed smile plastered across his face. Bradley stopped at the door and gave me a quick, possessive kiss before gently nudging me inside. Even though his wolf still bristled at leaving me in a room with another male - I could feel the reluctance in the way his hand lingered on my waist - I knew he understood that right now, I needed my friend just as much as Samuel needed me.

I rushed to the bed and threw myself onto Samuel, who let out a soft "oof" as the air left his lungs. He wrapped his arms around me, and we just lay there holding each other, just as we used to do as kids when the world felt too big and too cruel. We drew strength from each other’s familiar presence, from the unspoken understanding that had always existed between us.

With a sigh, Samuel gave me one last squeeze before sitting up and leaning against the headboard, his expression shifting to one of barely contained excitement. "Rosebud, you won’t believe what I’m about to tell you," he said, his voice full of awe and wonder. "I mean, this thing is huge. So huge, I wonder how I’m going to handle it."

I smiled knowingly. Although my sense of smell was usually that of a human, I now knew that, thanks to the pup, some of my senses had improved dramatically. And I could definitely smell Alexa all over him - her scent was woven into his clothes, his skin, his very being. If you know what I mean.

"Hmm... let me guess," I teased, watching as he once again drifted off into a daze with that goofy smile plastered on his face. "You’ve found your mate, and it’s Alexa?"

His head snapped up, his eyes wide with shock and disbelief. "Yeah, I found my mate and she is... Hold up! How did you know that?"

I just giggled at his stunned expression, enjoying his surprise far too much. "How could I not? The way you both kept looking at each other when you thought no one was watching, like the rest of the world had ceased to exist. Or the stupid smile you’d have on your face on the days you spoke to her, like someone had given you the moon itself. Or maybe the way you always got your panties in a bunch whenever you saw another male talk or even look at her for too long. The signs were hard to miss, my friend."

Samuel shook his head, running a hand through his disheveled hair. "Damn. And here I thought I was being discreet." A happy, smug smile returned to his face, and I rolled my eyes at his masculine pride. "Well, today we confirmed it, and boy oh boy, what a confirmation."

"Yeah, I gathered as much considering that even I can smell her all over you," I said, wrinkling my nose playfully.

Sammy sniffed his own shirt, a look of pleased annoyance crossing his features. How he could manage both expressions at once was beyond me. "So, did she accept you?"

"Yes, she did," he said, his chest puffing out with obvious pride. "She even got jealous and beat up a she-wolf that was trying to hit on me. She was so fierce, so protective, so hot that I couldn’t hold myself back. Before you know it, we were..."

I immediately plugged my ears with my fingers. "Sammy, I love you like a brother, and just like a brother, I really don’t want the details of your sex life. Please, I don’t think my stomach can take it, and right now it’s already sensitive enough."

"Right. Sorry," he said, looking sheepish as a faint blush crept up his neck. "Yeah... I guess you’re right. I don’t think I’d want to hear details of yours either. Anyway, since you mentioned it, why has your stomach been acting up? Are you sick?"

My eyes sparkled at his question, anticipation bubbling up inside me. This was it - the moment I’d been both dreading and looking forward to. "Sammy, I’m glad you asked, ’cause I have some news for you. I’m pregnant."

Sammy looked a bit confused for a second, his brain clearly trying to process the information. Then his jaw dropped, his mouth forming a perfect ’O’ of shock. "You’ve done it with Alpha Bradley, and you didn’t tell me? ME?" he all but shrieked, sitting bolt upright and clutching his chest dramatically. "I can’t believe that you got laid in this pack before me. Heck, technically, we didn’t even go all the way," he mumbled to himself, his voice taking on a petulant tone.

I tapped him upside the head, not hard but enough to get his attention. "No, silly. Bradley and I haven’t reached there yet. Although we almost did, but the doctor stopped us, and rightfully so."

Samuel shook his head, his confusion deepening as he rubbed the spot where I’d hit him. "I’m confused. Firstly, why would the doctor stop you, and why was that a good thing?"

I took a deep breath, steeling myself for the conversation ahead. Starting from the beginning, I recounted everything - from what happened this morning when I’d first felt ill, all the way up to before I came looking for him. I told him everything without holding back: about the Bloodmoon Alpha’s pup growing inside me, about the danger of the marking and what it could do to both me and the baby, about the Councilwoman’s grim explanation and the uncertain future we faced. At some point, Sammy just listened with an unreadable look on his face, his usual expressiveness replaced by a mask I couldn’t penetrate. It was at times like this that I didn’t know what he was thinking, and it made me worried, made my heart beat faster with anxiety.

When I finished, we both sat in silence, the weight of my words hanging between us like a thick fog.

Samuel

Sammy stood and walked to the window, his movements stiff and controlled. With his back to me, he stared outside at the setting sun, watching as it painted the sky in shades of orange and crimson. He asked so quietly that I barely heard him, but I did.

"Should I just kill him? Should I just kill that bastard who is still making your life so difficult even from afar?"

He turned, and I saw just how angry he was - truly, deeply furious in a way I’d rarely witnessed. His eyes were cold, hard chips of ice that promised violence.

"I should have just killed that bastard when I had the chance," he snarled, his hands clenching into fists at his sides. "No, killing him now won’t change anything, won’t undo what’s already been done. I should have never left you that night. I should have stayed, should have protected you better."

I stood and went over to my friend, placing a hand on his rigid arm, feeling the muscles coiled tight beneath my palm.

"Sammy, this is not your fault," I said, my voice firm and unwavering. "That man had his plans for me, and if it didn’t happen then, it would have happened after you left. Then where would I be? Lost in the dark without you? Forced to be mated to him and trapped in that nightmare forever?" I shook my head, my own fear giving way to steely resolve born from survival. "Even if it is like this now, at least I’ve found a mate who is willing to accept me and the pup. At least I have Bradley, and I have you, and I have hope."

I hugged Samuel, wrapping my arms around his tense body and holding on tight. "I just hope that nothing else happens that threatens the joy we’ve both found here in Goldmoon. We deserve this happiness, Sammy. Both of us do."

Samuel hugged me back, his body slowly relaxing as he released the anger that had consumed him moments before. He gently kissed my brow, his anger receding like a tide, replaced by the familiar warmth of our friendship and the fierce protectiveness that had always defined our bond.

"I hope so, too, Rosebud," he whispered against my hair. "I hope so, too."
