Chapter 34: Thinking About May and Peter’s Situation
Training the body through mild exposure to something “uncomfortable.”
Of course, not something truly dangerous. I’m not stupid enough to risk my life over reckless, poorly calculated experiments. Everything I do has to stay within safe limits that I can fully control without taking major risks.
Maybe certain foods, or mild substances that can trigger small reactions inside the body—enough to force the immune system to work, but not enough to make me actually sick or lose control over my own body.
If my immune system is gradually pushed to work harder, then my resistance should also improve over time. Little by little, like muscles that are trained consistently without stopping, building strength from within.
Like muscle training… but for the parts of the body that aren’t visible, working silently beneath the surface, never stopping in maintaining my body’s balance.
That way, I’ll become more resistant to toxins, diseases, or even other biological threats. An advantage that can’t be underestimated, especially in a world like this—one filled with unpredictability and dangers that can appear at any moment without warning.
I let out a long breath, my shoulders lowering slightly as the tension slowly eased, trying to calm myself before truly moving forward and starting to test all the plans I had carefully and consciously thought through.
The plan sounded reasonable… at least on paper, when everything was still just neatly arranged theory inside my head. But the more I thought about it, the clearer it became that there were always unseen gaps, small risks that could turn into something much bigger if I let my guard down.
I have to be careful.
I don’t want to die in a stupid way just because I’m too confident in skills I don’t even fully understand yet. Even a small mistake could end up being fatal in a world like this, and I don’t have the luxury of starting over.
The washing machine continued to hum softly in the background, steady and monotonous. Its faint vibrations spread through the floor, almost imperceptible, but enough to remind me that something was still moving.
That sound filled the silence of the house, becoming the only sign of life around me right now. Strangely, it was that very sound that made the atmosphere feel calmer, as if it balanced out my previously chaotic thoughts.
Tomorrow… maybe I won’t go anywhere.
Aside from a morning run and some light exercise to maintain my condition, I’ll spend the rest of my time at home. Fully focusing on training all the skills that haven’t developed yet. Testing, trying, failing, and then trying again until there’s a result that’s truly visible, no matter how small it is.
Tomorrow will be a training day.
A day without patrol. Without being Spider-Man. Without having to think about the city and all its chaos, at least for a while so I can fix myself.
After deciding that, I walked toward my room, my steps feeling a little lighter now that there was finally a clear direction. I quickly changed into casual clothes. The dry fabric felt comfortable against my skin, no longer damp and sticky like before, allowing my body to slowly relax.
After that, I stepped into the kitchen.
It was already night.
And I hadn’t eaten anything since earlier.
My stomach began to feel empty, even a little sore, like a protest that could no longer be ignored. I opened the kitchen cabinet, staring at its contents with a flat expression. There weren’t many options—if anything, it was downright depressing.
And for some reason, at a moment like this, my thoughts drifted somewhere unnecessary.
I really hoped… I could marry May.
The thought appeared just like that, making me pause for a moment in front of the open wardrobe. A simple image formed in my mind—coming home to a place that didn’t feel empty, a warm atmosphere waiting for me, food already set on the table, and someone there, waiting so we could eat together in a comfortable silence.
Damn.
Thinking about something like that only made my chest feel a little tight, as if something was pressing from the inside. Too far… and perhaps too impossible for now, considering everything I have to deal with and the risks that constantly lurk around me.
I shook my head lightly, trying to push the thought away before it went any deeper. With little choice, I ended up cooking something simple—instant noodles.
The water began to boil, bubbles breaking across the surface, steam slowly rising and filling the narrow kitchen. The aroma of the seasoning spread through the air, simple but enough to calm my empty stomach and ease my mind just a little.
I waited for a while, watching the noodles soften in the hot water, before finally serving them as they were. Nothing special, but enough to fill the nagging emptiness.
After finishing, I just left the dirty dishes in the sink. I didn’t have the energy to deal with them right now, and honestly, I didn’t care enough at the moment.
I then went to the bathroom to brush my teeth, clearing away the lingering taste in my mouth, before finally returning to my room. My body started to feel heavy, the fatigue I had been holding back finally surfacing clearly in every muscle and joint.
That’s what I thought at first.
Until I suddenly remembered something.
“Have May and Peter gone home yet?” I muttered quietly as I stared at the dark ceiling.
I lay down, but my mind became active again, spinning endlessly. This world is not a safe one. This is the Marvel world—more precisely, Marvel Comics. A place where bad things can happen at any time, even in places that are supposed to feel safe.
And the chances of running into trouble out there… are far greater than they should be, as if danger is always lurking in every unseen corner.
As far as I know, this morning they said they were going somewhere.
An amusement park.
A place that should be filled with laughter, lights, and simple happiness… but in a world like this, even a place like that is never truly safe from the worst possibilities that can appear at any moment.
I wondered whether the two of them had already returned, and whether they made it back safely.
That question kept circling in my head, like a small voice that refused to stop, repeating itself endlessly in the thickening silence of the night. Every time I tried to ignore it, the voice only became clearer, as if deliberately pulling my attention back.
It felt like something was stuck, something I couldn’t just ignore no matter how much I tried to calm myself.
I know it sounds excessive… but in a world like this—the Marvel world—where all kinds of problems can appear without warning, that kind of worry is never truly without reason.
Yet at the same time, there was a sense of awkwardness holding me back, stopping me before I did something impulsive.
It was already this late at night. The atmosphere outside must be quiet, leaving only dim streetlights and long shadows stretching across the empty sidewalks. If I suddenly showed up just to make sure they were okay… it would look strange.
Too suspicious. It might even make me look like someone who has no boundaries, someone who interferes too much in other people’s lives without a clear reason.
Should I use a Spider Robot just to monitor May’s house?
The thought appeared just like that, making me fall silent for quite a while. I weighed it seriously, considering one possibility after another.
