Chapter 30: Killing Killgrave
Then, without hesitation, the woman stepped forward.
Her fist shot forward and struck Killgrave in the stomach.
“Thud!”
The punch sounded far louder than it should have for someone with a body like hers. Even I could feel a small gust of wind from the impact.
Killgrave’s body swung harder than before.
I narrowed my eyes slightly.
Wait… could this woman be… Jessica Jones?
Damn it. Is every version of the Purple Man in every world always obsessed with Jessica Jones?
I thought that since this was Earth-76, the story might be a little different. Parallel worlds usually have small variations in how events unfold.
But still…
I looked back at the woman who was now continuously punching Killgrave in the stomach with a face full of hatred.
Is this woman really Jessica Jones?
The woman who almost always ends up becoming a victim of Purple Man’s—Killgrave’s—mind control?
Jessica then began beating Killgrave repeatedly.
Her fists struck the man’s body without hesitation, as if all the anger she had been suppressing for so long had finally found a place to be released.
Every punch was thrown with full force, hitting Killgrave’s face, chest, and stomach without mercy. The man’s suspended body swayed violently each time a punch landed, and the chains holding Jessica rattled loudly from the repeated shocks.
Jessica showed not the slightest hint of hesitation.
Punch after punch continued to fall, making Killgrave’s head jerk left and right. Blood began to seep from the spider web that covered his entire face, slowly dripping down to the floor beneath him.
But Jessica still wasn’t done.
She grabbed one of Killgrave’s hands tightly.
“Crack!”
The sound of bone breaking rang clearly through the room as Jessica twisted the man’s arm violently. Killgrave’s arm bent in a direction it should never have gone.
Killgrave struggled violently.
His body writhed in agony even though his mouth was still covered by the web that gagged him. A muffled groan escaped his throat, but Jessica didn’t care in the slightest.
Without waiting, Jessica grabbed Killgrave’s other arm.
“Crack!”
It broke in the same way, twisted with brutal strength until the bone simply gave in. The sight made it seem as if human bones were no stronger than dry twigs being snapped in half.
Yet Jessica still wasn’t finished.
Her eyes were still filled with anger that had not yet faded.
Jessica stepped back half a step, then raised her leg before kicking Killgrave’s remaining leg with full force.
“Crack!”
The leg broke instantly.
Killgrave’s body jerked violently as it hung there, moving wildly from the overwhelming pain. The spider web that restrained him shook hard each time his body swung uncontrollably.
And finally…
Jessica kicked the lower part of Killgrave’s body hard.
Ugh.
I couldn’t help but wince a little when I saw that.
This woman was truly ruthless.
It seemed those two male eggs were beyond saving now. Tsk tsk… this is what happens when you become too obsessed with someone.
That crazy purple-skinned man.
After venting her anger, Jessica finally stepped back several steps away from Killgrave. Her breathing was heavy, her chest rising and falling quickly as if all her strength had just been drained.
Her hands trembled slightly.
Whether from exhaustion, or from the emotions that had just exploded after being suppressed for so long.
I then walked toward Killgrave, who was now almost half-dead.
The man’s body was covered in blood. Both of Killgrave’s arms were broken and hanging strangely, while his legs were also no longer properly shaped. Blood slowly dripped from several wounds, soaking the clothes that were already in disarray.
Killgrave was still moving slightly.
His breathing sounded heavy and uneven, but it was clear that he no longer had the strength to do anything at all.
Without saying much, I grabbed Killgrave’s head with one hand.
Then—
“Crack!”
I twisted Killgrave’s neck quickly.
My movement was short and clean.
The man’s body immediately went still.
Dead instantly.
At the same time, a transparent notification suddenly appeared in front of me.
[Daily Mission: Zebediah Killgrave, a mutant who awakened his ability since childhood and was born with a vile nature. Killgrave killed both of his parents when he was still a teenager, then began assaulting various women from that time onward, while committing many other crimes.]
[Completion Condition: Kill Killgrave]
[Reward: Mind Control Resistance]
[Status: Completed]
“Is that man already dead?” Jessica asked in a quiet voice.
I turned to look at the woman.
Jessica’s expression looked complicated. There was faint relief on her face, but anger still remained, along with something deeper—exhaustion that seemed to have piled up for years.
“Yes,” I replied while nodding. “That bastard is already dead.”
Well… unless someday some mad scientist decides to experiment with his corpse and creates Killgrave number two or something like that.
Wait.
Thinking about that immediately made me narrow my eyes.
That’s right.
I should get rid of this man’s body.
Who knows if some lunatic might actually try to do something with Killgrave’s corpse. This world is full of strange scientists and secret organizations that like to mess around with dead bodies.
But I couldn’t do it right now.
I glanced at Killgrave’s lifeless body.
Hey, Spiderman System… can you store corpses?
[Unlimited-time storage feature is not currently available, however you can store an object for one hour each time you complete a mission.]
What?
Only one hour?
And it can only be used after completing a mission?
What kind of damn system is this!
[Because the unlimited storage feature is not yet available, this is the only function that can currently be used.]
Damn it. This system is really annoying.
I pressed my temple in irritation, staring at the empty space in front of me as if the system were actually there. Sometimes the system felt very helpful… but at other times it felt like it was deliberately messing with me.
Alright… so what should I do?
[Simply place your hand on the object, then say “store” in your mind. If you want to take it out, simply say “release” in your mind.]
Oh.
That was pretty simple.
At least this system still knew how to make something easy to understand.
I immediately walked closer to Killgrave’s body, which was still hanging. The man’s corpse was now completely lifeless. Killgrave’s head hung limply, and his body dangled without the slightest movement.
The room felt much quieter now.
I placed my right hand on Killgrave’s body.
His skin had already started to feel cold.
Then in my mind I said, store.
In an instant—
Killgrave’s body disappeared just like that.
It completely vanished without leaving the slightest trace, as if the man had never been there in the first place. Even the chains that had been holding him earlier were now hanging empty in the air.
I blinked once.
Alright… that was pretty useful.
I then turned around and looked at Jessica. At the same time, Jessica was also looking at me.
Our gazes met.
“Thank you… thank you so much…” Jessica said with a trembling voice.
Her voice sounded hoarse, as if her emotions were still surging.
“I… I don’t know how I can repay you. Once again… thank you…”
After saying that, Jessica suddenly began to cry.
Tears slowly flowed down her cheeks. Her shoulders trembled slightly, and her body shook a little like someone who had finally released a burden that had been suppressed for far too long.
I could only remain silent for a moment as I watched the scene.
To be honest, situations like this were not my specialty.
People crying… especially women crying… always made me feel a little awkward.
