My Beautiful Wife – NTR

Chapter 013: Business Trip

When the alarm woke me the next morning, I felt too groggy to get out of bed, no surprise, given how late I’d stayed up.

After a tasteless breakfast, I dragged myself to work, dark circles under my eyes.

By the time afternoon rolled around, I finally made it home to swap out the memory card from the camera.

Back at the office, I opened the video.

I’d hoped for new revelations tonight, but before they fell asleep, they only discussed how Yumi and I met, along with some amusing anecdotes from before Jihoon came to my home.

Yumi told the stories with such charm, and Jihoon listened, completely absorbed.

But I couldn’t tell if it was my imagination or if I was hallucinating from lack of sleep last night… Whenever Yumi and Jihoon talked about our sweet memories together, a hint of envy and jealousy would flicker in Jihoon’s eyes.

I shook my head.

I was probably just seeing things, these past two days had left me on edge.

After chatting for a while, Yumi told Jihoon to get some sleep.

Perhaps it was late by the time she brought him to his room, but the poor kid was genuinely exhausted and fell asleep almost immediately.

Not long after, Yumi drifted off too.

They slept soundly until dawn, nothing else happening.

Yet whether by design or accident, Jihoon always ended up sleeping with his face nestled against Yumi’s side breast.

She seemed utterly unconcerned… Perhaps she truly regarded him as a child.

Back home, the awkward, uncomfortable dining atmosphere returned.

Honestly, since Jihoon arrived, I felt Yumi’s care and affection for me had diminished significantly.

It was only natural, most of her attention and love were now focused on her new son, Jihoon.

I had no choice but to gradually adjust to this situation. After all, I was the one who had brought this trouble upon myself.

When bedtime came, I was utterly exhausted from the mental strain of the past few days.

Feeling resentful and resigned to my fate, I turned my back on Yumi and fell asleep without a word.

Though my eyes closed, sleep eluded me.

I knew Yumi would soon slip past me to meet her little wolf dog again.

I waited for what felt like an eternity, but Yumi showed no signs of moving.

Drowsy, I drifted off.

I have no idea how much time passed before that familiar early morning hour struck again.

My body clock, forced into this rhythm over the past few days, woke me up once more.

Groggily, I opened my eyes, glanced at the clock on the wall, and prepared to fall back asleep.

But suddenly, something felt off.

Why was there a large hand around my waist?

I turned to look and discovered Yumi was still in my bed.

Her arm was wrapped around my waist, her face buried in my back, sleeping like a little kitten.

What was going on?

Yumi hadn’t gone to keep Jihoon company tonight.

Had she stayed up too late and accidentally fallen asleep in bed, missing her nightly vigil?

And without Yumi by his side tonight, Jihoon hadn’t woken screaming from nightmares.

Never mind.

Yumi was still in my bed, and that thought instantly brought me comfort and peace.

I turned to face her, leaned in, and kissed her gently before falling asleep in her embrace.

The next morning, I woke up to find Yumi already preparing breakfast.

Before Jihoon got up, I asked her in the kitchen why she hadn’t gone to keep him company last night.

Yumi explained that during her free time at school yesterday, she’d already told Jihoon to try sleeping alone.

She couldn’t keep accompanying him forever, so she hadn’t gone last night.

Jihoon seemed perfectly fine, so it looked like she wouldn’t need to keep watching over him anymore, she could focus on me instead.

Hearing this, I felt a glimmer of hope for tomorrow. My heart instantly felt lighter.

But just after finishing breakfast and arriving at work, I received notice of a business trip scheduled for tomorrow… at least a week long.

Business trips had always been routine for me, yet this one felt different.

For some reason, I felt resistance and even dread toward the upcoming assignment.

I couldn’t pinpoint what I feared or worried about, only a persistent sense of foreboding…

…That something might happen on this trip, that I might lose something…
