Chapter 90: Let's All Go To The Lobby
POV Rio
After the immense chaos and fun of playing DODJ or DaAR, things were fairly calm. However, everyone was very conflicted about the game. It was fun but also quite traumatising. Lara bought an animatronic restaurant so that she could blow up the building and all the animatronics inside. Tony has sworn off fast food after getting the mother of all stomach aches from all that food. Selene was paranoid about walking on the floor after the floor became lava, and she was covered in wounds. That and she now hates Time Travel and the like, as she got a DODJ card called Freeze Frame, which froze her in time like someone hit the pause button. The thing is, she was both aware and not aware of what was happening. Oh, and she has a burning hatred for clowns now.
Speaking of wounds, Tony developed a newfound respect for Dr Connors. He was also spoiled a bit as to what happened to Anakin Skywalker. The reason being he got a DODJ card that was named the Anakin Special. Which meant his limbs were chopped off and he was ignited. It was brutal to see and smell. It might also have made Tony quite a bit more protective of his limbs and much more fearful of fire and lava.
Lucy surprisingly got decently lucky. Though that usually came at the cost of me. As some of her cards were perverted, or she twisted them in a way that became perverted. If I weren't sure that cheating was impossible, I would believe she was cheating to make her cards that way. My cards were similarly themed. Though often it was related to dressing up in various forms or doing things that made others look at me with suspicious eyes.
The only person who wasn't harmed or traumatised was Mal0. I have no idea how, but she didn't get a single bad DODJ or DaAR card. The toughest card she had to deal with was wearing a massive princess dress without help. I'll admit it's pretty funny to watch her struggle to figure out how to wear the dress, and given she couldn't get help, it took her a couple of hours to manage it. Unfortunately, that came at the cost of her forming a stronger dislike for clothing. So really, I lost in the end. Though that's true in general, as Mal0 won the game in the end.
Now it was time for the big event that had been planned for a while. Star Wars Episode II was having its premiere. Episode I came out a while back, and with a combination of my knowledge of what would and wouldn't work, George Lucas' vision, and his ex-wife's knowledge and expertise, we were able to turn Episode I into an even bigger hit than it was in my past life. Now, there were still those who didn't like it or were confused about the politics, but I helped dumb it down at least a little bit. Anyone who still didn't understand it was a lost cause, and there was no need to waste time on them.
Another thing that made the movies even more special was my access to real spaceships, which allowed us to film with real props. Another massive boon was hiring Quentin Beck for his hyper-realistic hologram technology. When I hired him, the tech was still not quite ready and was likely a few years away, but with my knowledge of Star Wars technology, I was able to leapfrog the project to completion. We also tried using more practical effects, which, with the budget we had, wasn't that hard. I also took Jake Lloyd's place to avoid exposing a child to that, and because I was one of the best actors on the planet. Being a Changeling does that.
Episode I came out about a year ago, but filming for the second one had actually already begun before the first movie was out. I chose to use a similar method to Peter Jackson by filming all the movies at once, or at least within close proximity to each other. We kept a little breathing room for any needed changes or to take in any criticism we may have missed. None of us was flawless, and I, for one, was always looking to improve myself.
But for the second movie, a few large changes were made. For one, the actors got to use real Lightsabers. Or rather, training sabers, which made the fighting far more realistic. After the first movie came out, Tony basically came to me and begged to have a role, though he will likely try to deny that. Almost all my friends got a role. Most were background characters, as honestly, they aren't good actors. Lucy, John, Helen, and Luke were all terrible actors. Like Celestia levels of bad. Selene was the most surprising, as she could act really well. I expected that of Lara, as she was classically trained during childhood, and honestly, her looks help. But Selene surprised me because she had no training or very little of it, as she was an exterminator, not a public face. And given her Goth aesthetic, I thought she wasn't good at acting, but it turns out she's a natural.
Tony was also pretty good. Not amazing, but pretty good. He was given the role of one of the Jedi that survived the Battle of the Petranaki Arena. Steve and Peggy chose not to participate despite their skills in this field. Though I could say for certain that Steve still had it after all these years, thanks to the little show we had during the game of DODJ or DaAR. But it was their choice, and I wouldn't push.
"There's the man of the hour! Ready to see my performance on the big screen!?" Tony loudly asks.
"Hah, yeah, we'll see if you can manage anything impressive," I respond with a joke.
"Ow, my wounded pride," Tony says while holding his chest.
I roll my eyes.
"And lovely to see you again, Lucy; you look lovely as always," Tony compliments.
"Thank you. Pepper looks nice today as well," Lucy says bluntly.
Tony pauses and waits for a compliment, but never gets one, so he slumps a bit.
"One of these days you'll compliment me! One of these days," Tony consoles himself.
"Sure she will," I say with a pitying stare while patting his back.
"Don't you know you shouldn't kick a man while he's down?" Tony complains.
"Where's this man you speak of?" I joke.
"Sometimes I wonder if you only keep me around as a punching bag," Tony says with a heated stare.
"Stare any harder, and people might get the wrong idea," I joke.
"Sigh. You know it wouldn't kill you to let me win for once?" Tony says with a smile.
"Who told you my weakness?" I ask with an overly serious tone.
Snrk
Everyone stifles a laugh at my joke, or I suppose more of a chuckle or chortle.
"Enough, jokes for now. How have you been doing?" I ask.
"Pretty good. I'll admit at first I had a couple of nightmares about being burned alive, but the memories of the pain are dull or faded as if it were a dream," Tony says wistfully.
"Yeah, like I said, the game undoes the damage, and in a sense, mental trauma is part of that. You'll remember what happened, but it won't seem as bad or as traumatizing as it really was. It could also be a way to get the game to convince you to play again," I offer.
Tony shudders.
"No, thank you. I can't speak for everyone else, but I have no intention of playing that game again. I don't even know how you managed to play that game twice," Tony says firmly.
"Magic Clones. The game sort of breaks if I dispel the clones mid-game. It's one of the only ways I've found that can end the game prematurely with no issues," I respond honestly.
Tony thinks about it for a few moments before nodding.
"I guess that makes sense. If anyone was going to find a way to break the game, it would probably be you," Tony jokes, or at least I'm pretty sure he was joking.
Regardless of the situation, we greet our other friends before taking our seats for the movie. The response to the movie was quite strong. The audience seemed to like it, and from what I could sense, they seemed to enjoy the movie. The only person who had a moment of dislike was Tony, and that was when Anakin lost his hand. I could see Tony looking at his own arm, especially when Anakin later got his mechanical replacement, as it was that same arm that Tony once had.
As for me, it was a fine enough movie. I always had a love-dislike relationship with this movie. I never cared for the romance scenes, and even now I don't. But even knowing that, I still didn't interfere with that part of the movie. Some people like it and feel it's accurate. That, and both George and Marcia wanted that part to stay in. Maybe I just don't like romance even after finding love. Lucy seemed to like it. Not massively, but she liked it nonetheless. Once the movie was over, there was a small press conference and a little Q and A. Only when all that was done, and I went home to take a break, did I get a notification.

'Hot diggity dog!'
Hal Emerich had come after Admiral Trench a month ago, and I was very happy with that result. Hal Emerich had given me knowledge on building Metal Gears and several pieces of tech from the Metal Gear series. Now I have John 117, or the Master Chief. Now he doesn't bring as much as I had hoped, as simply put, in terms of power, I am already a bit beyond his abilities. That is without the armor. The armor more than made up for the disappointment.
The gear was just overall really good. And while Master Chief might not know exactly how the armor works, he did have some understanding of how it might work. The real prize, however, wasn't the armor, or the guns, or the grenades, or the shields; it was the AI Core. Normally, the system can't grant you any living beings or sentient beings as gear. But in this case, the Mjolner Armors are meant to be used with AI Cores, so you run into an interesting situation. As such, as a compromise, the system gave me the parts for an AI as well as the research that comes with it. Now I do lose out on any Forerunner technology, but all things considered, I was happy with what I got. No need to look a gift horse in the mouth.
'It'll take some work, but it can be done.'
