Chapter 75: The Fall of the High Inquisitor
A three-headed Human-Faced Demon Owl!
The enormous shadow in the sky completely engulfed the Church's high-tier Inquisitor beneath it.
Karen raised his head, and his expression finally changed slightly.
"What kind of monster are you?"
"Heretic, die!"
"Divine Judgment!"
Even more violent Flames of Heretic Judgment descended from the heavens, intending to completely incinerate Levi's Human-Faced Demon Owl form.
However, in this state, the gap between Levi and the high-tier Inquisitor was no longer as hopelessly vast as before.
In Human-Faced Demon Owl form, Levi possessed three heads.
Three minds operating simultaneously!
The middle head maintained Detection, tracking every movement made by the Church's high-tier Inquisitor. His actions were practically being predicted in advance.
The moment Karen prepared to cast Flames of Heretic Judgment, Levi had already seen through it.
And another of his heads immediately activated one of the Human-Faced Demon Owl's spell-like abilities—
Shadow Traverse.
Almost at the exact same moment the Flames of Heretic Judgment descended, Levi entered the shadow tunnel through Shadow Traverse and reappeared elsewhere.
The instant he emerged, Levi gave the Church's high-tier Inquisitor no time to react.
All three heads let out a simultaneous shriek.
Soul Howl!
The terrifying soundwaves underwent triple amplification, transforming into layer upon layer of destructive waves that crashed toward the Church's high-tier Inquisitor, Karen.
Only then did Karen finally react.
The enhanced light armor covering his body erupted with layers of golden radiance, forming the phantom image of a golden suit of armor that protected him together with the Holy Light Shield.
But Levi's attack was simply too powerful.
The entire Ashenearth Ridge behind Karen was blasted full of holes by the impact, while cracks rapidly spread across both the golden armor phantom and the Holy Light Shield surrounding him.
Suddenly—
Crack.
Both the golden armor phantom and the Holy Light Shield shattered simultaneously.
Karen's physical body was exposed directly to the full force of Soul Howl.
But by this point, Soul Howl itself had already exhausted most of its power.
The remaining shockwave merely slammed the Church's high-tier Inquisitor backward into Ashenearth Ridge as blood spilled from his mouth.
But Levi, with Detection active, had already predicted this outcome long ago.
His next attack arrived immediately afterward.
Wizard's Hand.
The Wizard's Hand cast by Levi's human form could not restrain Karen's battle-hardened will.
But the Third-Ring Wizard's Hand cast while Levi was in Human-Faced Demon Owl form was an entirely different matter.
A gigantic invisible hand descended upon him with overwhelming force.
An overwhelming restraining force instantly suppressed Karen completely, leaving him almost unable to move.
Just as Karen was about to be crushed to death by Levi—
No fear appeared on his face.
Instead, his eyes revealed the resolve of a martyr.
"O Lord, I offer unto you my flesh and soul. I beg you—judge this unrighteous being!"
With Detection active, Levi immediately sensed that something was wrong.
Even though Wizard's Hand would crush the man to death in the very next second—
Levi instantly activated Shadow Traverse.
And not just once.
He chained multiple Shadow Traverses in succession, fleeing far away from Silverclaw Territory in an instant.
Almost simultaneously—
A milky-white pillar of light descended from the heavens, engulfing Karen, the Church's high-tier Inquisitor.
His body instantly disintegrated, leaving behind only a blank soul that flew into some mysterious kingdom beyond.
And that pillar of pale white light rapidly expanded outward from Karen's body in an instant, covering the entirety of Silverclaw Territory and even extending into portions of Hornreach.
Ordinary people could neither see the pillar of light nor feel anything at all.
Only after the radiance completely faded did Levi dare emerge from the shadow tunnel.
Having consumed too much power, he was forced to return to human form.
Staring toward the place where Karen had died, Levi could not help cursing under his breath.
"Religious lunatics."
The man had sacrificed even his own soul without the slightest hesitation.
Seriously...
Levi found himself unable to describe it.
However, after this battle, Levi finally gained a much more intuitive understanding of his own strength.
Among Third-Ring Wizards, he could already be considered fairly powerful.
When fighting in Human-Faced Demon Owl form while combining Detection and spells like Wizard's Hand, he could completely seize control of the flow of battle.
Just like during this fight against Karen.
Even though Karen's overall strength was actually slightly higher than Levi's, once the battle truly began, the entire rhythm of the fight had been controlled by Levi from beginning to end.
Even Karen's final mutually assured destruction move had been seen through immediately by Levi, allowing him to escape long beforehand without suffering any damage.
But then again—
If even a high-tier Inquisitor from the Church Inquisition was already this terrifying...
What about the existences above them?
Levi once again felt an overwhelming sense of crisis.
"It seems the path of growing stronger truly can't stop," Levi thought.
His attention shifted toward the rest of the spells that had not yet reached the Third Ring.
If he managed to raise all of them to the Third Ring, his strength would increase by another massive margin.
Not to mention that every increase in spell level also strengthened his Sea of Souls, bringing enormous benefits to the growth of his Spiritual Power.
If one day Levi's mind were filled entirely with Third-Ring Spells, and his Spiritual Power reached the absolute limit of a Third-Ring Wizard—
Even Levi himself could not imagine how powerful he would become.
But there was one thing he could say for certain.
At that point, dealing with someone like Karen would no longer carry such enormous risk.
Thinking this, Levi consumed a small amount of Magic Power and transformed into a tiny nightingale, flying back toward Coldwind Keep Town and his castle.
But then he suddenly remembered something.
He turned around and flew back out again, arriving at Ashenearth Ridge, which had nearly been destroyed by the aftermath of their battle.
Among the rubble and shattered stones, Levi discovered one of the few belongings Karen had left behind.
A familiar golden disc covered in cracks.
Blessed Golden Plate!
The very same golden disc that had provided Levi with immense protection during the battle.
The very same golden disc whose power increased as more of them were gathered together.
And this high-tier Inquisitor of the Church Inquisition had possessed one as well.
During the battle, Levi had glimpsed a fragment of it through Detection. Only on the way back did he suddenly remember it. Even though his Magic Power had not yet recovered, he still flew back over and dug the golden disc out from the rubble.
At this point, Levi now possessed three Blessed Golden Plates.
His expression turned somewhat strange.
"Don't tell me I'm supposed to gather all twelve discs and then go wake up Sleeping Beauty with a kiss?"
"How old would she even be by now? Princess Grandma?"
A chill ran down Levi's spine, and he shuddered involuntarily.
Still, whether or not he kissed the princess was another matter entirely.
These Blessed Golden Plates were genuinely valuable treasures.
The power of just two Blessed Golden Plates had already allowed him to withstand attacks from a high-tier Church Inquisitor.
With three discs stacked together, the power would undoubtedly become even greater.
Levi finally felt at least a little more secure.
Unfortunately, he had consumed too much Magic Power at the moment and could not inject power into the Blessed Golden Plate to restore it to its original state.
So Levi temporarily stored the golden disc away and brought it back to Coldwind Keep Town.
The matters involving Nightingale Miss Odelle and the Church's high-tier Inquisitor had both been resolved, leaving Levi in an excellent mood.
Now the only remaining problem was the approaching Kobold Disaster from the Mist Swamp.
As for Viscount Silverclaw—
He could deal with him later.
Yalina, Rune, the wolf-eared girl Little Red Riding Hood, and Nightingale Miss Odelle had no idea that Levi had just returned victorious from a battle.
At this moment, they were all still overwhelmingly busy with the territory's construction efforts.
Levi watched them from a distance, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly into a smile.
...
After resolving those troublesome matters, Levi finally had more time to devote to the territory itself.
Following six days of grueling nonstop work, the circular wall surrounding the Mist Swamp had finally begun to take on a clear shape.
The entire wall wound along the swamp's edge, forming an irregular yet sturdy ring that firmly sealed this danger-filled wetland outside the territory.
For the foundation, Jeff led the territory's residents in pouring modern cement mixed with crushed stone deep into the swamp's soft muddy edges. It was compacted repeatedly, forming a stable stone base capable of resisting the wetland's moisture and underground currents.
Above that foundation, layers of bluish-gray fired bricks were stacked one atop another and bound together with modern cement, the seams tightly sealed.
Although the wall had not yet been fully completed, it had already risen from the ground. Its height now barely exceeded shoulder level, stretching into the misty distance so far that its end could not be seen.
Every few meters along the wall, protruding battlement structures had already begun to take shape. In the future, they would serve as defensive cover and firing positions for the guards.
The year-round gray-white mist within the Mist Swamp coiled around the unfinished sections of the wall. Whenever the wind swept through, it exposed the damp wall surfaces and muddy construction grounds beneath.
This moisture negatively affected the hardening of the cement.
Now that Levi finally had some free time, he secretly cast Gathering Technique, extracting portions of the moisture from the air and accelerating the cement's hardening process.
As a result, when the brickworkers woke up the next morning, they all vaguely felt that something seemed different.
Yet none of them could quite explain why.
After muttering a few confused remarks among themselves, they quickly threw themselves back into the construction work.
The entire territory was burning with activity.
During the daytime, the able-bodied men gathered clay, mined coal and limestone, carried bricks and stone, and ran endlessly through the mud and mist transporting materials back and forth.
Behind them, the elderly, women, and children were organized into support roles, providing logistics for the workers.
Even half-grown children picked up scattered gravel and contributed their own small yet determined share toward the construction of the wall.
The hastily trained brickworkers gripped trowels and masonry knives, carefully sealing bricks and cement together without gaps.
And with every passing moment, the wall continued to rise higher.
When night fell, bonfires lit up one after another along the length of the wall.
The orange flames pierced through the darkness, replacing sunlight and continuing the work of securing the territory's future.
The brick kilns and modern cement kilns burned even brighter, their flames illuminating the skies.
The leaders of the Sea Serpent Merchant Guild and the Sword and Flower Caravan watched the scene with constantly shifting expressions.
Especially when they saw the gigantic wall rapidly taking shape within such a short period of time, they felt both shock and... greed.
"Our lord truly never stops surprising people. But why exactly is he suddenly building a wall around the Mist Swamp?"
"Could it be that he believes something inside the swamp is beginning to change?"
The leader of the Sword and Flower Caravan ignored the Sea Serpent Merchant Guild leader's question entirely.
His gaze remained fixed upon the wall.
More precisely—
Upon the modern cement used in its construction.
This material, capable of hardening in such an unbelievably short period of time, had captured his intense interest.
He had a feeling...
This was something capable of changing the world.
