Amarante’s Hunter D – Something Special
アマランテのハンターD・特別
The story takes place outside of Amarante, with Dina Folbes who will be joining as one of the initial Hunters for the HUNTER’s GUILD Amarante branch.
“Dina, you there?” my mother’s voice called me one day, every time she calls me always spells trouble though, so I can’t be too happy with it. “Have you settled in yet?”
The question seemed ambiguous. If you think it meant my marital life then you are wrong. Despite on the bigger and more muscular side of most women I am happily married with my dear appraiser for a husband. Therefore, I am settled in the matters of love.
It might also mean getting children. If so, then there might be some half-truth to it. Kurt and I have been married for 5 years and we still do not have any children of our own. Only half? The reason is because I am currently tending to three fledgling hunters who I consider as my children, then that department might also be wrong.
The REAL meaning behind that question lies with my profession. I am a ‘Wandering Hunter’. Not too strong but should be able to handle ‘B Rank’ or any lower threats together with my party the [Freedom Wings]. As the name suggests, ‘Wandering Hunter’ means that I do not settle in one place and go on hunting wherever there is a need for me. While there is nothing wrong with being a ‘Wandering Hunter’, it gets in the way of promotion and retirement.
Since we are not affiliated to any place, we have a hard time getting the trust of locals and don’t get much Recommended Quests. Due to that, we don’t get to save much. It was easy when I was younger but… I am getting old. I do really need to settle down soon.
That said, there is just no place, I can think of to settle and so have not tied myself anywhere just yet. I have been to many places but they just don’t get that ‘hmpf’ feeling… that Excitement Factor. As a Hunter, this is one thing I can’t just bend… but the time might come soon… I guess…
My mother Albia Folbes started as a Guild Overseer, I heard she has been doing overseer work since she was 18, and even becoming a Regional Overseer at the age of 54, with her dedication she eventually influenced me with my line of career.
“What do you want now?” I asked rather politely getting tired of her preaches.
“I’ve come upon a treasure throve.” When she says treasure throve, she could only mean one thing!
“A new dungeon! Where!?” of course I was excited, as a hunter, dungeons are a gold mine to us, and she says that she found one. “Has it been explored?”
“Don’t get too excited, you’ll die young.” She immediately put me back to my place. Even though I am this old, I can never get by her. “I will be going to investigate there soon, if you are looking for a place to settle this might be it. How about settling in as an applicant as agent, you’d have to travel to the Regional Office for it though.”
A new dungeon and getting to explore it first. Who would not want to go there? Following my mother’s advice, I went to Hunter’s Guild Regional Office the following day with my party and applied for the transfer. This seem like the ‘hmpf’ factor I am looking for.
After the visit to the Hunter’s Guild Regional Office and filing for residency, we then will be considered as the new Hunters for the branch guild in a town called Amarante.
When my mother got back from her investigation, she brought wonderful news of its authenticity. With this, there is finally a chance for me to land big and finally settle down with my husband.
According to my mother, the Dungeon is indeed new. Hidden from plain sight located in the middle of a dangerous Natural Ground, with many monsters of many species of wolves. Without any Hunter to quell the monsters, it became hard for the residents enter the forests. That must have been the reason why it had stayed hidden for as long as it has. I have to wonder though, who found it?
Several days after our application granted, we finally move and settle to the new town. Thankfully, my party members who have been whiffed around due to my nomadic life found it refreshing that they don’t have to worry about carrying loads of supplies as we are now settling for one town as our base. I did feel guilty that it took me this long to drag them to my own extremities. But no more, Amarante we are here.
*****
When we arrived at the town, we saw how lovely it was and got introduce to the nicest couple you would find. He the fresh Overseer of the new branch office of the Hunter’s Guild, Heid von Alyster Romaria and his wife Anna Seviles Romaria who seemed to have earned a few unwanted ire of nobles. I will not divulge much as it is currently a secret so let that comment slide.
I then introduce my husband Kurt Folbes who would become this Guild’s Appraiser Technician together with my party members who joined me in settling here.
Unfortunately, a rather disturbing event has occurred. We were told that a mapping quest which should only be given to Silver or Ruby Ranks was given to fresh ‘BRONZE Rank’. We were told that it was their own children who went there with their combat instructor. Well, it can’t be helped he is still new at this, I guess. For now, we had better go and rescue them. ‘Just hope, they did not go too deep though.’
Unfortunately, they did, when went inside, we could not find them on the first floor. That would only mean, they went further in. So, we had to organize a rescue team with just my party members: Melna Armas and Tiel Rymes both Silver Ranks. Cassandra Flin, Glen Adross and Miles Rock who are Iron Ranks. Three veterans and three fresh hunters taking on an unexplored Dungeon. This is equally fun and dangerous.
‘This is gonna be hard.’ or so I thought. Before we could even enter the next day, the three people who should have went missing came out with little to no fatal injuries.
“That’s impossible…” or so I thought, then glanced at the so-called combat instructor… he definitely had the skills to get in and out of this new dungeon. I am guessing that this must have been the person who have found the dungeon. I guess it really is true, if you look at the waters for so long… you will find there really are big fishes in the ocean.
The more shocking thing happened five Cycle of the Moons after we arrived here though.
After arriving back in Amarante from an escort quest to the next town we heard that the dungeon core in its Avatar Form (Dungeon Lord) went out of its way and gave us a heads up that she will be increasing the number of the levels from 30 to 50 completely remodeling it to make it stronger.
“So where did you get the MANA to get stronger?” I am currently having a small drinking contest with the dungeon lord. And instantly asked how it would intend to make it stronger. Thankfully, she was friendly enough.
“Well, if you look around some of the forest should have withered a bit.” A ‘bit’ she says. Regular hunters and woodcutters make a living in this forest you know. As if hearing my thoughts, she replies: “Don’t worry though, once I am finished with increasing my Dominion, the forest should receive and abundant Mana refill.”
It would seem that after its defeat by the twin’s combat instructor greatly influenced her to becoming strong and evolved from an ‘A Rank Dungeon’ to an ‘S Rank Dungeon’. If this goes well, I am guessing in a few more years she will probably increase it to SS Rank.
Although my mother spells trouble, whenever she calls for me, that trouble is for very hefty rewards.
There is probably something special to this town… no... It is probably the people involve on it.
I am glad I listened to my mother and settled down here, this place is indeed a treasure throve.
