News about the scandal with Molba Mesner (appointed by Glimour Savil) who has allowed a monster inside Amarante has reached House Savil and they are busy trying to sort it out.

The Viscount House of House Savil is in turmoil.

Why you may ask?

Apparently, the head of the house has just received a letter from Amarante, requesting an immediate audience. The agenda: Replacing the current Elder of Amarante.

Eldership unlike nobility is not hereditary. Normally, the townsmen will conduct an election to vote for the most suitable person to hold ‘town eldership’ and will be replaced when they die or are no longer fit for the title.

Amarante is a special case however, its ‘elder’, is one appointed by a house of a viscount -the head of the House Savil – Glamour Savil, a powerful viscount backed by the Duke Mordredia.

An ‘elder’ appointed by nobility can only be removed by the same nobility or a noble with a much higher peerage. This would allow that appointed ‘elder’ a semi-hereditary function like a noble.

The head of the Viscount House – Glamour Savil appointed a Mesner as Elder for a mid-tier town called Amarante. Ensuring that only a direct lineage of the House Mesner be the elder of Amarante until Glamour Savil removes him or until a noble with a much higher peerage than a viscount appoints another Elder.

Commoners who would forcefully replace the current Elder – Molba Mesner, is a direct attack to the Viscount House Savil and will be routed for treason.

…And the letter seeking audience is trying to remove an elder appointed by a noble.

“Stan, there you are, have you heard!?”

“Just read the letter myself…” I was walking towards the courthouse, when a co-worker frantically approached me. “Does this town have a death wish?”

My name is Stan Reids I have been working as a bureaucrat for the House Savil for 1.5 years. I was burning the midnight lamp reading some financial documents when the top bureaucrats had called for me at sir Glamour Savil’s office.

They had presented the letter to me, which could be summarized to: “Your incompetent choice of an Elder has done something bad so we are replacing him… We will come to you and present our case.

Well, the letter was very formally written in a way that only those who can read between the lines can perceive it. This is the reason a minor bureaucrat like myself was called in front of the Head of the House Savil, I was good at reading between the lines.

“No, you idiot!” The letter I read was received three days ago. Apparently, I was very much out of the loop and a new development was on its way. “The Representatives from the Amarante were attacked by bandits!”

“What!” Attacked by bandits? Near the House of a Viscount? With Noble Knights stationed close by? Looks like Glamour Savil has dropped his verdict before the representatives could present their case. They should have let whatever discontented they have and continued to lived… I was soon swallow these words.

What we thought was an empty court house hearing due to the perceived deaths of the Amarante Representatives. But another turmoil begun. Afterall, the representative against all odds even against the power of the house Savil they still made their way to our court.

“We apologize for the delay.” The representative talked with grace and eloquence. He was someone I am quite familiar, after all he was on trial for embezzlement a few Moons back and stripped from nobility. The representative from Amarante was the former Baron sir Heid von Alyster Romaria. “We have been derailed by bandits on our way.”

What we the bureaucrats thought to be a simple discontent of eldership was put to the test. We were faced with a three-headed beast blasting us with well-founded conspiracy.

In attendance as representatives of Amarante:

1. Sir Heid von Alyster Romaria, a former noble and said to be a great friend for the genius King of Levantis. At his back, is probably his guard? Aide? A young man not wearing any armor… so probably his aide?
2. High Bishop Carlos Angsaid, Bishop of Fritz Dukedom. Together with him are two Paladins.
3. Lastly, Albia Folbes, Levantis Regional Overseer of the Hunter’s Guild. Together with her are a Ruby and Silver Rank Hunters

I am guessing the two Paladins and the high-ranking Hunters was the reason that they were able to come to this court intact. House Savil will not be able to do any of this stunt in a foreseeable future that’s for sure.

Some of the younger bureaucrats did not quite understand the significance of the representatives in attendance. Many of them mocked sir Heid for coming to court against the powerful Viscount Savil. They even sneered at him openly.

They were wrong in many ways!

For veteran bureaucrats such as myself though, we could only gulped ample saliva. Why? The entities that joined sir Heid! That’s why!

First, the Church. The church is an organization that will always take a stance of neutrality. But when they see disparity on any angles, they will investigate and take a solid judgement. That solitary judgement is something no noble will undermine. Faith is such a powerful weapon even against nobility after all.

Then there is the Hunter’s Guild. Just like the Church, the Guild is a neutral entity. However, when they put all their power to investigate anything, they will get the most accurate information. There is a reason, why nobles detest the guild… it had the power and might to topple any noble.

Now, by having the Church and Hunter’s Guild at his side not only proves his innocence to whatever claims he was accused off, but it also tells us that the two organizations are backing him in all and any aspect. The House Savil will not be able to do anything untoward him or whatever his claim without evoking the ire of both the aforementioned organization.

When sir Heid was on trial for embezzlement a few moons back, evidence was not presented and claimant was not even disclosed. A faux trial at best. Yet he was ousted because many believed and feared the fury of the house Savil. Due to that lack of evidence, they could only strip-off his peerage but could not hang or even exile him.

This time however, he was showing the members of the courts of House Savil what a real trial is. He was basically poking the house Savil with ridicule… and younger bureaucrats does not even notice it… that is just sad.

“This is the official report on what had transpired in Amarante.” Sir Heid von Alyster Romaria then presented his case and evidence.

The former baron then recount the events that transpired in Amarante providing evidence with the signatures of 100% population of Amarante further proving the legitimacy of their claim:

1. Bribery,
2. Embezzlement,
3. Instigating criminal acts,
4. Betrayal of public trust
5. Possible involvement to Criminal Guilds (no evidence, but most shocking and insinuating possible involvement of House Savil with the Criminal Guild),
6. Endangerment of the public lives

There were multiple eyes before him and yet sir Heid maintained composure. He had just finished the report of the recent events that occurred in Amarante to head of the House of Savil, Glimour Savil and its council but none could argue with him. Many of the upstarts wanted to, but we older and the wiser had stopped them from making another mistake we had used during sir Heid faux trial.

After he had presented his evidences together with the problems that happened in the town of Amarante, he then proceeds to provide a solution the town had conjured:

1. Molba Mesner will be taken down from Eldership, her daughter Alma Mesner will replace him. Many of the fledgling bureaucrats thought this had undermined the power of the viscount, but to a few of us saw it as a solid view, since a Mesner was still at helm it after all does not undermine the Viscounts authority; and
2. Although, Molba Mesner won’t be killed or exiled, he instead will undergo house arrest until her daughter gets to legal age where another trial will be held for his head or exile. Meaning he was now under the protection of the government they had created, with it the backing of the Church and the Hunter’s Guild.

Thus, the Interim Governmental Affairs (I.G.A.) of Amarante was born.

Many were discontented with the result. I for one however, was amazed. Not only was the town brave enough to fight against a noble. They pushed and pave a path to win. We will be hearing a lot of things from this town in the future. Good and bad.

As to be expected of the true friend of the King, he showed his best hands. Now, how do I report all this to His Highness? I am sure he will be glad to hear his friend is doing rather well without his help.
