Hero’s Worries – Li Jie

My name is リ・ジエ since it is a Chinese name リ would be my surname and ジエ would be my name. In the origin of my Chinese name are the words (李) which means plum and (杰) meaning great. If you have to connect this two to create a word, then it would mean ‘Great Plum Tree’
I live in Hong Kong with my big family. Big as in there are 20 of us in one household. Although the number seem troublesome to western families, I would say: ‘the more the livelier’. And I can definitely assert that we are indeed one lively and well bonded family. Everyone is taking care of everyone, and no one is being left behind, that was what my grandfather who turned 89 this year and still heading the family. If I had not known any better, he might really be a Yāoguài, a monster in guise that had lived through the years.
I often come home late since I work part time in a billiards resto-bar as one of its bartenders. If you think I am old enough to be working in a bar you are most definitely mistaken, I am sixteen this year and should not be allowed to work much less inside a bar. But thanks to my grandfather’s connections I was able to get by secretly hiding my age. I was self-supporting for my high school and did not want to bother my parents to pay for my tuition fee and I really wanted to finish my schooling to get to a decent college. My grandfather is helping to achieve that.
Just like any other night, I had worked and soon left after my shift. It would have been a normal night of work, or so I thought. The one thing that was out of place was this girl who was standing in the middle of the street wearing luxurious clothing and clearly looking at me, I noticed that a van was closing at her at breakneck speed, I did not know why I tried to save her, but my instinct pushed me to push her to safety at least. Then, the unexpected happened, when she was with in my reach she completely disappeared, and I was left in the middle of the street taking her place as the victim to the van.
That was what I last remembered, and now I was standing not in the middle of a street but a perfectly symmetrically tiled circular platform in the middle of the ocean.
“Where is this?” two voices were mixed with mine.
I was not the only one here and was also not the only one astounded by the view presented before us.
“People from another world, we beseech thee to come to our aide.” Three voices synchronized, if they were to sing, I would definitely hear the sound of angels.
“May we ask you your names? Oh, chosen ones.”
“I guess we can give that at least, for now.” I said and the other two nodded.
“Teressa Flemings, a high school student in The École Internationale Bilingue.” announced the uniformed girl shyly, she is a person from France judging from the name of the school.
“Isabella Bianchi, a patisserie from Italy.” Adding my name here is going to be an international festival.
“り・ジエ….” While I was introducing myself the three beautiful ladies wearing luxurious garments seem to be upset at something. Although I was quite insulted that my self-introduction was interrupted, clearly it was not the time to push it since their uproar stemmed from something behind us.
It would seem the unexpected interruption came from a boy about my age standing in the middle of the circular platform. The moment he laid eyes on me he seems to avert and turned to the other ladies beside me. Quite rude. I kind of had a bad impression about this guy, must because he is looking down on me or something. I should be the mature one here and let it slide.
Although I work parttime, I had time to play and read novels, and something like this were common themes in some of those games I have played and novels I’ve read and somehow know a few of the perks of being sent to another world. I kind of did an appraised the guy who came after us.
‘Richard Stevens’… I engraved it in my head, he might become a good ally for my stay here in this world, but with his animosity that is unlikely.
Anyways, the three princesses, informed us as to why we were summoned here. One of the princesses was clearly the girl I had seen before getting transported here.
The information was templated in those novels I had read previously, and so we are summoned to battle that threat. I wanted to go home but, if these princesses had a way to send us back, they definitely want to hold that as a trump card so that we will fight for them, so going against them would be a no-no, for now I should just try and get my cards right before I confront them.
Thankfully to ensure that we have a fighting stand against this so called Demon Lord and its Armies, we seem to have been blessed by this so-called Supreme Goddess of Life and Fate.

Although it is true that I wanted to go home, I also felt excitement at the same time. I mean being summoned as a hero should be a dream for any young teens.
I have trained with my grandfather, father and 2 of my elder brothers in our dojo. Although it was a severed combat style, I had literally practiced with it until my body no longer felt strains. But the world I lived in was somewhat peaceful and I was only practicing to maintain my body and health. It was not like I practiced it to join an underground martial arts tournament or fight unsavory organizations.
So when the idea hit me, I thought that if I am going to be here for quite a while, I might as well enjoy it… as the hero and save the world. Well I know I should not get cocky with these new-found powers.
As I scanned through my STATUS, the one that got my attention besides the Titles and STATS should be the equipment in my infinite storage. That the weapon and boots were something I was quite familiar with. They were legendary weapons and accessory the Sun Wukong had equipped himself in the Journey to the West a special staff and boots. As the dojo my grandfather mastered in is geared to using staff with an array of hand-hand combat I am confident that I should be fairly capable in combat, although not as capable as my two elder brothers, I should be able to put what I learned in our Dojo to use the equipment.
As I saw that the others where finished scanning through their own Statuses, I also put a lid to my excitement for now and hear more explanation from the princesses.
Apparently not all of us were summoned to subjugate the Demon Lord and its Demonic Army. One will be returning to the Queendom where Queen Alexandria was ruling and the other girl will be heading for the Confederation where the High Priestess Ririna was affiliated, and lastly the Hero was to be taken to Galvaland where Princess Armina is affiliated… wait…
“I see… ha?” those gestured startled everyone. “If that is the case, why are there four of us here when there are only three summoners.”
The girl wearing uniform -Teresa Flamings shared my bewilderment. But it would seem the three princesses were the most baffled with this turn of events.
However, since there was no definite answer to this question, they had decided to have him also be accommodated to Galvaland together with me. Although I had no problem with it, it would seem the guy had problems with me, for unknown reasons.
But an unusual thing happened, something I had not asked since I already saw it while appraising him earlier. The High Priestess Ririna asked for the boy’s name… and he lied…
“Me? My name is Galford Granfall.” He lied straight to our face.
“Ha! Are you giving us an obvious lie!?” I roared at his obvious lie, I even went and appraise him again just to be in the safe side and that was when another unusual thing happened.
“Eh!?” Me, Princess Armina and Queen Alexandria synchronized.
The two probably were shocked that the name changed to Galford Granfall, but the one that shocked me was that his STATS were higher than mine… and the words TRUE HERO written there as well, I guess I was just concentrating with this name that I forgot to see that troublesome title.
I guess I was just plain after all.
