Shen Zhen shook her head. "They can scheme all they want, but I will never leave. This child is weak and won’t be able to survive. At most, I will hold on for a month and then let this child be aborted."
"Why are you waiting for a month?" Bai Meiyue asked. If the child was weak and could not be kept, why raise it for a month and then abort it?
"Because abortion is a big deal. You are about to give birth, and I cannot lie down at the moment. If I abort this child now, then I will have to arrange a lot of things, plus the postpartum nourishment. I do not have the time to do that. What if you go into labour when I am out and about? Who will take care of you?" Shen Zhen explained the matter clearly to Bai Meiyue.
"That’s not what I meant to ask." Bai Meiyue shook her head. "What I want to know is why you are refusing to keep the child if you have already been taking the medicine for a month?" As soon as she finished speaking, Shen Zhen exchanged a look with Li Rong, who pursed her lips.
Bai Meiyue suddenly had a bad feeling, and she could not help but ask, "What is going on?"
Of course, neither of the two women was willing to speak, and it was only when she insisted that Li Rong finally sighed and opened her mouth to speak. "Meiyue, the matter is not as simple as taking medicine and keeping the child. As you already heard, we do not have enough of these injections. "Then there is the matter of bed rest; with the given situation, how can Doctor Shen even think of resting? She is the only doctor who can help pregnant women as well as those who are suffering from women’s issues. Where does she have the time to rest? And where will she get the injections from?"
"Besides, even if she somehow manages to keep the baby... who will deliver her child? Because I can assure you that this child will be a premature baby in the best-case scenario. With how weak they are at the moment, the child can at most be kept for seven months... That’s the most optimistic outcome possible, actually. And somehow, if we find another surgeon...can we arrange for oxygen tanks? Medicines as well as the other things that will come with the premature baby and Doctor Shen’s health?"
"We wanted to discuss the matter of abortion with Lu Yu, but the man was too happy to hear the thing that we wanted to tell him. As soon as he found the ultrasound report, he took it away without understanding the key points. If he looked at it carefully, he would realise that the child is currently unstable."
"Why don’t you ask Lu Yu to arrange the medicines and the things that are necessary? Why abort the child?" Bai Meiyue asked. It was not that he felt sympathetic toward Lu Yu, but she did feel that it was wrong to keep the child alive for a month and then abort it. Either abort it from the start or keep it. The child would soon start forming, and if Shen Zhen aborted it at this point, wouldn’t the child’s life be snatched away for no reason?
"Calm down. If you get too excited, the child in your belly will be troubled as well." Li Rong patted Bai Meiyue on the shoulder and said in a calm voice. She then explained patiently, "It’s not just about the medicines and the surgeon. The most important thing that we need to worry about is you and your child. "But your child is healthy and will be born soon. If we start mobilising the ability users and leave the safe base alone, you will have to start utilising your powers more than necessary. Are we supposed to make your child unstable as well just because we want to protect Doctor Shen’s child? That cannot be done."
Since ancient times, as long as there was a dilemma between choosing weak or strong, the strong one was always chosen. Though it was cruel, that was the only sensible course of action. What if they waste all their energy and time on rescuing the weak ones and waste the time when they could use it on saving the strong one? The weak one was destined to die from the start, so even if they were to use their resources, could their fate be changed? There was no guarantee of it happening.
But the strong ones could always be saved as long as the resources were used in time. However, if they foolishly make a bad decision and save the weak one, then both lives would be lost along with the resources.
This was the same case between Bai Meiyue and Shen Zhen.
