Chapter 102: An Urgent Mission
Just as Qin Wenhao had seen off most of the guests and was about to head upstairs, a car pulled up to the gate of the Qin Family Mansion.
A man hurried out of the car.
Qin Wenhao was surprised to see who it was.
The man saluted Qin Wenhao. "Qin Tuan, we have a mission. We have to leave immediately."
Qin Wenhao’s expression turned serious. "Alright. Give me five minutes."
He hurried upstairs.
Fu Mingxue was just about to wash up when she saw him. Noticing his expression, she asked, "What’s wrong?"
Qin Wenhao looked apologetic. "I have a mission. I have to leave right now. I’m sorry."
Fu Mingxue was speechless. ’...What? A mission? He’s leaving now?’
’Doesn’t that mean... I’ll be alone tonight?’
"Your mission comes first. I’ll be fine. Don’t worry about things here at home. Mom and I will look after the child."
"Okay. I’ll leave things to you and Mom, then." Qin Wenhao didn’t have time to say more.
He was about to turn and leave, but then he suddenly remembered something.
He spun around and strode back to Fu Mingxue.
Fu Mingxue was stunned. Before she could even realize what he was doing, he pulled her into his arms.
"Wife, I’ll make it back alive. We’ll make up for our wedding night then."
After saying that, he gave her a tight hug and then quickly left.
Fu Mingxue was at a loss for words.
’He really doesn’t have to be so fixated on the wedding night,’ she thought. ’I’m still young.’
’There’s no rush. Really, no rush at all.’
The Qin Family hadn’t expected Qin Wenhao to be called away on a mission on his wedding day, of all days.
They hadn’t even spent their wedding night together! Couldn’t it have waited until tomorrow?
However, they all knew that a military mission took precedence over everything else.
"Stay safe,"
Mr. Qin said, watching as his younger son got in the car and drove away.
Just then, Lan Qingman spoke up softly.
"Wenhao is leaving for a mission, yet his bride doesn’t even come down to see him off?"
"You talk too much," Mrs. Qin said, glaring at her sharply.
Lan Qingman’s expression stiffened.
’Ever since her mother-in-law got that new, younger daughter-in-law, she’d become so impatient with me.’
’Her mother-in-law had never been so blunt with her in the past.’
"Mom, what did I say that was wrong? Even if she is the bride, shouldn’t she come see her husband off on his mission?"
"Didn’t Wenhao just go upstairs to tell her? What more of a send-off is needed? That’s enough. Keep your opinions to yourself. I’m going to check on Mingxue."
’What bride wouldn’t be upset, having her husband leave for a mission on her wedding day?’
Paying her eldest daughter-in-law no more mind, she headed upstairs.
Left standing alone, Lan Qingman’s expression was grim.
Just then, Mr. Qin’s voice rang out. "Qing Man, have you been rather idle lately?"
Lan Qingman jumped. "Ah, n-no, I haven’t—"
’She was actually quite scared of her father-in-law.’
’He was usually very stern.’
’Right now, for instance, his expression was incredibly severe and rather frightening.’
"You haven’t? Then why were you talking about Wenhao’s wife?"
"Dad, I... I wasn’t saying— I just—"
"I don’t care what you’re thinking. Keep those petty thoughts to yourself. Life isn’t easy for Wenhao’s wife."
With that, Mr. Qin walked away.
Lan Qingman, left standing there, was even more furious.
’That Fu woman has it tough?’
’Then who does have it easy? Her life isn’t easy either! She’s spent all this time trying to please this entire family, and in return, all she gets is them looking down their noses at her.’
’She’s the wife of the eldest son, the family’s primary daughter-in-law!’
’This is absolutely infuriating!’
Meanwhile, Mrs. Qin arrived at Fu Mingxue’s room.
"Mingxue, I am so sorry. We never expected Wenhao would be called away on a mission today. This must be terribly unfair to you."
