Chapter 112: The Unpredictable Woman Who Asked Me To Die.
"Tsk, that bitch."
I cursed out as the damned pink slime threw me out of Lily’s apartment like I was some unwanted pest. She really had no chill.
It had barely been a few minutes since I had given her such dramatic and accurate answers to her useless questions, and she had the audacity to do this?
How outrageous.
When I marry Lily again, I will make that damned slime take the place of Doron, the spirit Lily had assigned to fan me in my last life.
Though, it was nice to see Rwar again like this.
As much of a bitch as she was, I couldn’t help but smile a little when I thought about how she was probably the only one who didn’t seem to have changed much from my last life.
With those thoughts in my mind, I walked towards the elevator to go to my own apartment.
It was seven in the morning but thankfully, today was Sunday, so there was no rush to go to classes. Though, I did have some other important things to do.
It barely took a few minutes before the elevator dropped me off on the eighth floor, but as soon as I arrived, my eyes fell on an unwanted guest sleeping right outside my door like some stray cat.
Her orange hair fell over her face as she leaned against my door, while her usual energetic and sharp violet eyes were closed in peaceful sleep.
She was wearing the same dress she had worn on our chaotic date yesterday, with a few scratches here and there across her body, as if she had come directly to my apartment from yesterday’s chaos.
Seles.
What is she doing here?
As I walked towards her, the sound of my footsteps awoke her from her sleep. She shook her head a few times as if her eyes were still blurry before her gaze finally settled on me.
Her eyes moved across my body as if trying to see whether I had any injuries before she got up and, before I could even react, lunged in my direction and pulled me into her embrace.
"Thank god... you are okay."
Her body was colder than I had expected but then again, sleeping outside during the cold months of Arcanum’s chaotic weather... must have been terrible.
Looking at her acting like this, memories of her acting in a similar way in my past life flashed through my mind.
I had many questions I would have loved to ask her
but I knew better than anyone that this Seles would definitely have no answers to them.
So, I shook my head and stayed in place because that was all I could do at this moment.
Although my body had healed outwardly, my insides were a mess, especially after using Ragnarok. My entire body still carried that lingering pain, which made me feel a lot weaker than I had been back when I actually possessed the G-Rank Physique.
"Hey, Seles... Good morning to you too."
I said it as she looked up at my face before suddenly pushing herself away, as if only now realising what she had been doing.
"..."
"...Good morning to you as well, Zenith."
She replied after a brief hesitation, her hands clenched tightly.
"What were you doing here? Don’t tell me you stayed up all night waiting for me?"
I didn’t really understand what went on in the mind of this girl but somehow... she looked more angry than worried.
"I have many questions but now is clearly not the time."
Her hands clenched even tighter.
It almost felt as if that pitiful and cute tsundere act she always put on was on the verge of breaking but before it could, she walked past me.
"You better take care of yourself." Her voice was slightly higher than usual. "And next time you dare to jump into the mouth of some monster without telling me your plans, you better make sure you... die."
With those cold words, she walked away without even turning back and entered the elevator, which was still on this floor.
As my eyes landed on her face, she turned her head to the side before the elevator door closed shut.
What the hell was that all about?
No... seriously, what the actual fuck was that about?
I had seen my fair share of crazy women. I had fallen for my fair share of them in my last life... and Seles was definitely the sanest of them all.
Or at least, she had never shown that freaky side of hers to me and had always acted like the perfect wife before betraying me.
So, I had always thought that whole nice-wife act was just a facade she had put on.
But after witnessing those memory fragments through the Eye of Usurper, I had started wondering if I had been wrong.
And now, after seeing this side of her once again, I found myself questioning that assumption even more.
I mean, I knew she wasn’t serious about me dying, right?
It felt more like a tsundere thing but that was what made it worse because I had no idea if it was all an act or... if she really was a tsundere at her core.
If this was genuinely how she had always been, then just how much of the Seles I knew in my previous life had been real?
And if it had all been real...
Why did she even betray me?
I had many questions but no answer but one thing was absolutely clear,
Whether she had truly been a tsundere at heart or was actually the snake who betrayed me... I had never understood who Seles really was in my last life.
I claimed to love her, I claimed she was my first wife and spent years by her side but when it all came down to it...
I didn’t know what she was like from within. I didn’t know what made her happy or even what kind of person she truly was when no one was watching.
At least not in the way I knew Lily.
With Lily, I could remember countless little things without even trying. The flowers she liked, the foods she preferred, the expressions she made when she was embarrassed and the little habits she had when she was nervous.
I knew her.
Or at least, I believed I did.
But Seles?
After an entire lifetime together, I was beginning to realize that I might have known the version of her that she had shown me...
...and never the woman underneath it.
And maybe that was why her actions in this life felt so confusing.
I couldn’t help but stay in one place for a moment in the hallway, staring at the now-gone elevator with my chaotic thoughts running as wild as ever.
But as soon as I turned around to enter my apartment, intending to rest and think about this stuff later, my heart nearly jumped out of my ribcage because standing eerily close behind me was my neighbour, Hope.
What the fuck!?
She was still in her pajamas, her golden eyes staring at me with curiosity.
"...Good morning, Hope?!"
I said, wondering what the hell she was doing here.
But instead of replying with a good morning like a normal, sane human being, she narrowed her eyes.
"Did someone talk about dying here?"
Of course... I had to be surrounded by weirdos.
And how the hell did she even hear Seles asking me to die but somehow not notice her sleeping on my door all night?
