This damned woman kept dragging me through crowd after crowd when our real purpose was simply to have a small chat.

I couldn’t exactly reject her either because, knowing her, she would get eerily suspicious about my intentions and then I could forget all about ever copying her Talent.

The real issue was failing to complete the conditions and having that unstable energy explode within my soul world.

But more importantly, they had these private compartments where I could openly show the recording to Seles.

Still, now that Lily was following me so closely... I almost didn’t want to enter one of those small compartments with Seles.

Because honestly, if her soul was truly beginning to remember the emotions of her previous life, I had no idea what could happen.

I turned around once to see if she was still following me... but surprisingly, I couldn’t see her anymore.

Though I did see Aurelion, immediately hiding behind a nearby pole as if that could actually hide him. Not finding Lily, I felt slightly disappointed but I shrugged it off for now and entered the cafe with Seles.

The cafe was just as bustling as advertised, with the smell of roasted coffee beans and freshly baked cakes filling the air.

"Good evening, sir and ma’am. Welcome to the Central Cafe."

A small fairy waitress flew over to us immediately, leaving a trail of glittering energy behind her.

"I would like a table for two."

I said with a smile as she fluttered around for a moment as if checking something, before turning towards us.

"Please follow me."

As soon as we sat down, the same fairy waitress came over to take our orders. I simply ordered their special coffee for myself while Seles...

Well, she ordered a bunch of different sweets.

She always did love sweets.

Soon enough, the coffee arrived along with the cloudberry tart that Seles loved the most.

For a while, we simply talked.

She complained about her various electives, how difficult everything had been recently and how annoying her brother had been acting.

Only after the entire tart was gone did she look at me.

"So, what is it that you wanted to show me, Zenith? You know, if you are uncomfortable with it, there is no need to show me. I already trust you enough and you already look stressed all day."

She said gently, pushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear.

"Nah, it’s fine. Although it is a big secret that could very well reduce my entire family to dust, I want to share it with you."

We were currently in one of those small compartments where several layers of soundproofing magic had been cast, so I wasn’t worried about our conversation being overheard.

Honestly, many people even used this place for different kinds of activities, though I never understood why.

I mean, the academy did allow students to have a love life since everyone here was practically an adult. Hell, they even allowed students to live together with mutual consent. So, using a place like this of all places didn’t make much sense.

As my chaotic mind continued wandering as much as it always did, I pulled out the recording crystal containing the confession of my ever-so-lovely former maid who had planted the evidence in my room.

"Please look through this."

I said as I started playing the video I had recorded back then. This was the spare copy I had kept after giving one to my father.

Immediately, a holographic screen appeared in the air and the recording stored within the crystal began to play.

"I am sorry, Young Master... I never wanted to do something like this. Mistress Isolde threatened to kill my brother if I didn’t listen to her and plant the Queen’s undergarments in your room. I was scared. I am sorry..."

As the confession echoed throughout the room, silence followed.

I watched with amusement as Seles’s expression shifted through several emotions before she finally opened her mouth.

"T-This...? Is this really true?" She looked back at me, her face filled with anger. "How could your own family even do this to you?"

"Haha..." I chuckled bitterly. "You are surprised by just this much? You know, they even asked me to sacrifice myself so that this truth would never come to light."

"I myself would have never shared this with anyone because I care too much about my family, but..."

I continued.

"I need you, Seles."

"W-What do you mean?!"

Seles acted startled, genuinely surprised this time, as if she hadn’t expected me to be this direct.

"You see, the one behind everything was someone I could never hope to go against." I continued in the same tone. "It was your brother... Ruvian."

As soon as I said those words, her eyes widened.

Earning her trust was indeed one of my goals but it was only one of them. My real goal was to screw Ruvian over even further.

"What are you talking about, Zenith?!"

Seles asked.

"I don’t know why but after digging a little more deeper into this matter, I found out about how Ruvian planned all of this with my brother Rodrick. Isolde and the others were merely pawns."

I said, putting the crystal back into my storage.

"I could never hope to go against someone like that. But when I saw him trying to talk to my sister so cheerfully, I lost it and did what I did that day."

I even let a tear fall gracefully from my eye.

Seles didn’t have much influence in her family’s politics but she had something even more valuable, something even Aurelion didn’t have.

A network of spoiled nobles who were the perfect means of spreading rumours.

And once rumours started spreading, nobody cared whether they were true or not.

If I wanted to destroy both Rodrick and Ruvian thoroughly, I had to destroy their influence first and Seles was the best way of doing it.

Seles didn’t look completely convinced but the idea had taken root in her mind, and that was enough for now.

Still, she remained completely in character as the gentle girl, putting on a sad expression as she looked into my eyes tearfully.

"I cannot even imagine how much you have suffered, Zenith."

She said in a gentle tone as I looked back at her.

But before I could say a single word, the senses I had sharpened through countless battles in my previous life suddenly began tingling all at once.

Something in the air had shifted.

I immediately reinforced vectors throughout my body and lunged towards Seles, grabbing her head and forcing her down with me.

Right on cue, a violent wave of energy erupted overhead, obliterating the entire ceiling of the cafe.

Through the now-open ceiling, all I could see was a one of the many gigantic eye staring directly at me, with eight long tentacles thrashing violently behind it.

I recognized it immediately.
