Chapter 94: Alone And Helpless 1
She slipped through the door, her bare legs hitting against the wet concrete as she struggled to navigate her way around here.
She stood outside with her heart racing in an emergency.
She was damn sure he had seen her escaping at the last moments. And she has...half a second to either disappear completely from this vicinity or hide somewhere it would be impossible for God himself to find her.
She breathed out as the rain began to pour down on her in light drops.
There were two main pathways that curved around a giant golden fountain filled with many absurd naked statues of gods and divine beings. Both paths disappeared into the darkness and she was sure one of them led to the main road and the other...
Corrine turned on her heels and stiffened when she heard the sound of the revolving doors behind her.
The other one it is!
She moved quickly towards the left curving path. Her feet slapping hard and fast against tiny puddles of water—it was a miracle how she hadn’t cut herself on a stone or pierced by a nail.
She moved with so much urgency that at some point she thought of just running. Running until these monsters never catch up to her.
Corrine paused when the runway led her to a remote highway. One that was eerily quiet, isolated and surrounded by tall, monstrous trees at both sides.
She stepped onto the highway, staring left and right.
Even where he lived was absurd.
Hell, she could hear the sounds of wedigos and other night creatures lurking in the dark.
She sighed, running a nervous hand through the wet strands of her hair as what to do became a strange concept.
There were no signs of any cars or people nearby. She wouldn’t be surprised if this road couldn’t be pointed out on google maps. She had no money or her phone to call for help or anything. She was just by herself.
All alone and helpless.
Just the way he wanted it.
She cursed out again, rubbing her shoulders as she felt the cold seeping through her body now. The cloth she wore clung to her body like a second skin and she wished she didn’t have to wait until it started raining before she left.
Only if Stylie or Berry were close by to help.
She continued walking down the right side of the never ending highway while being conscious of her surroundings. Every distant snap of a twig, anything that watched her from behind the trees enough to erupt goosebumps all over her body alerted her in several ways.
She paused when a pair of eyes watching her from the trees to her left was a wolf following her from behind the trees. Corrine shook her head and blinked her eyes only to see that it was just her imagination.
There was nothing.
She gasped out again, turning around slowly as she stared at the long, unending distance she still had left to cover. The tower was still close by and it looked like she had only just taken a step in so many hours. She stared at the dark road that laid before her and gulped.
Either they’ll find me wretched or my body at the end of the road. That looks like something no human being would be able to cover in three days alone without rest! And I plan on walking that long distance tonight to find help?
She was this close to breaking down into tears. Fear became the least of her many problems now. It was the eerie knowing of the impossible and the amount of suffering she would be subjecting herself into just to return back to the real world.
A world where people don’t shapeshift into titan snakes and a few men were decent enough to respect a woman’s wishes.
She continued down the road bravely. Her legs trembled with each step she took.
Her eyes watering as a tear slid down her face.
Is he the one walking behind me?
Corrine dared not turn around to look as she felt a presence stalk behind her in the dark. Her hands balled into tight fist as her movements slowed in uncertainty. She tried looking back a few times.
Why was he just silently following her from behind, mirroring every step she took away from him then...
Corrine paused when she had had just enough of this.
Her eyes tight shut as she felt the sharp surge of all her emotions and frustrations and anger overwhelm her at once.
It almost drove her mad on a spot.
She sobbed silently as he did nothing but to wait a few feet behind her.
Her hands clenching harder than ever before and her eyes slowly opened with a new look.
One that was determined to end whatever this was was between them for good. This ill-fated relationship that occurred simply because she failed to acknowledge how utterly breathing taking he was that day!
She turned around slowly, one step after the other and met with those beautiful, sharp-like golden stares of his. It burned through the dark and shamed the moonlight pouring down on them with the rain.
My god...
She said with goosebumps filling every inch of her skin as she stared into those haunting gold eyes.
It looked so much like that...
The sky rumbled as if backing her thoughts up.
He stood as if he wasn’t trying to hold her back from escaping but at the same time he stood in the middle of the road, watching and waiting for her next move.
She looked at him and for a moment she tried to understand him. He has this unique way of creeping her out and at the same time making her fall...
She blinked at her thoughts, taking a step forward as a slight frown formed on her eyebrows.
What was that? What was she just about to admit to?
Is a few passionate kisses on the bed and warm hugs enough to buy you over on the insane train that tolerates monsters just because they are good at pretending to have a soft and likeable side?
Corrine was so confused with how she felt. She was a stranger to love and felt if whatever she felt for him wasn’t the same as the one she held for Henry for months then it couldn’t possibly be love...
Right?
