Chapter 319-The Humiliated Sister
Gigi:
My room felt like a house in mourning.
Earlier, my mom had called to tell me that my brother had been admitted to the hospital after getting into a fight with the Alpha King.
The news had already gotten out, too.
But she couldn’t get to my phone.
A little while later, she found out that Alpha King Ragnar was the one who had beaten him.
My mother had been knocking on my door then, but just moments ago, she had come running in, crying because videos of the entire incident had gone viral.
I sat in the corner of my room with my knees pulled to my chest and my arms wrapped tightly around my legs.
"Gigi, are you okay?" Rochelle asked softly, gently patting my shoulder.
"Can you please ask everyone to leave?" I managed to speak, my voice trembling.
My hands shook, and my entire body had gone cold.
"I did. They’re out there grabbing whatever food was prepared because, well, let’s be honest, they don’t really care about anyone but themselves," Rochelle muttered, glaring toward the people I had thought were my friends.
"Rochelle, it’s not true, right?" I asked, lifting my head. "There has to be some kind of misunderstanding. There’s no way Ragnar would do that, right?"
That was when Julia walked in, holding a sandwich.
The fucking fat pig wouldn’t stop eating.
"What do you mean, ’Ragnar did that’? You should be hoping your brother didn’t do what they’re saying he did. Do you know what those reports are saying? They’re saying everything Alpha King Ragnar said about your brother is true. That he’s been harassing, blackmailing, and, well, raping women. Innocent, miserable women."
Julia took a huge bite of her sandwich as she spoke, staring at me as though this were somehow her place to speak.
"Julia, not right now. Please leave."
Thankfully, Rochelle turned and yelled at her before I could.
Because at that moment, I felt like I could simply kill someone, and Julia was standing right in my line of sight.
Julia looked at me, and I noticed the corner of her mouth lift slightly into a smirk before she quickly suppressed it. Then she nodded and walked out of the room.
"I’m so sorry about that. It’s just that some people pretend to care about you, while others only want a chance to mock someone. They’ve been secretly hating you," Rochelle commented.
"What else did you see in the video?" I asked, panic coursing through my body.
I had heard things going around, and I desperately wanted them not to be true. I kept hoping people were only exaggerating.
But the moment Rochelle looked down and bit her bottom lip, I knew they weren’t.
"Please, Rochelle, tell me," I insisted, reaching for her hand.
She drew in a deep breath and nodded.
"Your brother was completely naked, and Ragnar didn’t even let him cover himself. He beat him while taking him toward the main center."
She paused.
"I think he was going to have your brother arrested like that because of what he’d wanted to do to that woman who helped Ragnar expose him," she uttered, making my breathing turn erratic. "But then I noctied that Ragnar did pause for a moment."
My mind immediately started searching for a reason.
Maybe that was when he had briefly thought about me.
"Actually, there was a woman nearby, and I guess she passed out or something. He only stopped so he could carry her in his arms to his own vehicle. That’s all. After putting her safely in the car, he came back and continued beating the fuck out of your brother."
She hesitated.
"But I’m telling you, it was really bad. People are zooming in on the videos, making fun of your brother and his privates."
I heard every word.
I didn’t know why, but it felt as though this had happened before. Like déjà vu.
"Why would they do that? Isn’t it wrong?" I hiccuped, trying to steady my breathing.
"Well, not necessarily when he’s been raping women," she commented with a shrug.
"Anyway, your brother is in the hospital right now. He’s lost a significant amount of blood. People are wishing death on him, Gigi," Rochelle commented, still holding my hand.
I wasn’t sure what the proper reaction should have been in that moment, but all I could say was that I couldn’t react at all.
It felt as though my entire existence had come to a stop.
I just kept staring at her face as silent tears streamed down my cheeks.
"My brother would never do that. He’s innocent," I uttered, shaking my head.
"Gigi, there’s significant evidence." she grunted.
"Evidence?" I uttered.
"There’s a video going viral of him saying all of that to a woman whose identity they’ve protected."
The more Rochelle spoke, the more numb my mind became.
"Did anyone call to ask for me?" I asked, my lips curling downward.
"I mean, me?" Rochelle asked hesitantly. "I mean, nobody called me to ask about you."
"Well then, get me my phone. I guess they must’ve called me, but my phone was out of battery. Oh my God, my life is such a mess."
I started crying as I pointed toward my phone, which was still on the charger.
Rochelle got up and rushed over to grab it for me.
She brought it back, and when I turned it on, I saw that I’d received a ton of calls from different numbers, including a few wrong numbers.
The text messages were horrendous.
People were messaging me, asking if that scum was really my brother.
Not a single text had come from the Alpha King brothers or anyone at their mansion.
"Remember, Gigi, how you used to say you wished your life were broadcast live to everyone sitting at home?" Rochelle uttered.
I slowly lowered my phone and lifted my head to meet her eyes.
Tears streamed down my face as she finished.
"Aren’t you glad that’s not the case?"
I silently stared at her as I remembered what she’d told me.
She was right.
People really did wait for someone’s downfall to unleash all the bitter things they’d been keeping to themselves all along.
